Permit Group Holders
For all outside community organizations such as hockey groups, leagues, associations, and
community groups that permit or use Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation rinks/arenas
that are not supervised by City staff, are to abide by their organization’s guidelines and
policies as they relate to the use of helmets. However, Parks, Forestry and Recreation highly
recommends the use of CSA approved hockey helmets for all players/skaters while on the
ice.
For bookings by companies or private individuals, such as birthday parties and special
events, children under the age of six are required to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet
while on the ice.
All participants, regardless of age, while playing or supervising hockey type activities in an
arena or rink must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet when on the ice.

For children, youth, adults and older adults.
Pick-up Hockey
Pick-up hockey differs from shinny hockey as players wear full equipment. The puck will
be raised and goalies are invited to play. Body contact is not permitted. Full equipment is
mandatory. The program may or may not be directly supervised. If supervised, staff will
organize a friendly game trying to balance teams by ages, ability and gender. A time clock
may be used to ensure equal ice time. Pick-up hockey programs are arranged by a variety of
ages or gender specific. Please refer to the schedule to ensure the appropriate program.
