SimSci-Esscor’s™ Visbreaker Operations Model (VOM) is one of the reactor
models for Refinery Modeling in SimSci-Esscor’s industry-leading ROMeo® Online
Performance Suite. The Visbreaker process unit reduces the quantity of residual
oil produced and increases the yield of more valuable middle distillates. The VOM
Reactor model can be used to model industrial coil (also called furnace) type of
visbreaker units.

FEATURES
The VOM model offers the following key features:
• Ability to model the whole visbreaking unit including the furnace, fractionators, and
fuel blending
• Detailed modeling of the furnace coil side for accurate resident time calculation
• Requires input of feed properties, furnace coil geometry and operating condition,
and liquid product cutpoint temperatures
• Handles multiple feeds including furnace feed (Resid, VGO optional) and cutter
stock feeds for fuel blending
• Predicts product yields and liquid and fuel product properties including
asphaltene contents, kinematic viscosities, Bureau of Mines Correlation Index
(BMCI) predicted values

• Refinery-wide modeling and optimization for understanding the interaction between the visbreaker
unit and upstream units
• Better understanding of the interaction between furnace, fractionator operation, and fuel oil
