FAQs Page 3 Star Areas Do students pay sales tax on textbook purchases? No. Textbooks are exempt from sales tax. However, tax is charged on all supplies, clothing, and other items. How does Bookstore know the textbooks to stock? During the current semester, the faculty submits textbook adoption information for the next semester. For example, the Fall 2011 textbook information will be submitted in March 2011. Using the textbook information which includes title, author, ISBN number and other identifying information, the Bookstore orders and stocks the textbooks required. Why does the Bookstore not have enough textbooks for my class? The Bookstore strives to have the textbooks required for each class. Unfortunately, occasionally, there may be a problem with a few classes. The reasons are varied, for example, Vendor may have back-ordered a portion of the textbook shipment Unexpected enrollment increases Students purchasing textbooks for classes for which they are not enrolled. Textbooks are then resold to outside textbook buyers. This activity has been a problem during the past two years. Non-Northeast students purchasing textbooks for classes at other colleges Incorrect textbook ISBN number inadvertently entered on the faculty’s textbook adoption record Textbook adoptions filed late Students delay purchasing textbooks until later in semester (may delay purchase until time for first test) May Northeast departments/divisions purchase items from the Bookstore? Yes, supplies that are not available from Central Office Supply may be purchased from the Bookstore via the departmental bookstore requisition form. The purchase of clothing and/or gift items must be preapproved by the Vice President of Finance and must be for official College business purposes. When may students sell textbooks back to Bookstore? Book buyback is scheduled during final examinations each term.
