CCSD in 2008-2009 Highlights: Our World-Class Schools and People Message from the Superintendent Lucy Beckham, Wando High School: National High School Principal of the Year (MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals) In year two of the “Charleston Achieving Excellence” plan, I am proud of the progress being made by our world-class students. Nearly half of our students now attend “Excellent” rated schools—twice the state average. We have greatly expanded the menu of choices for parents with neighborhood, magnet, charter, Montessori, and singlegender schools and programs. Our partnerships with community, business, and faith-based organizations are stronger than ever. It is clear that when we believe in every child and invest in public education, we build a brighter future for Charleston County.
