The WaterWorks Art Museum (WAM), which houses the WaterWorks
Gallery, has been in operation since 1977. In a park overlooking the
Yellowstone River, the Museum is housed in the concrete basins of
the 1910 WaterWorks that produced Miles City’s drinking water for
over sixty years. Guided by a philosophy of public service in the
arts, the Museum is listed in the National Register of Historic Places
and has earned both a Montana Governor’s Preservation Award
for the most adaptive reuse of a historic structure and the Montana
Governor’s Award for the Arts. Our museum is situated in the heart
of Big Sky country, and our service area of southeastern Montana is
physically larger than the size of many states

Kelley Elder, a Kansas native, graduated
from Kansas State University with degrees in
Theater and History. He served in the United
States Air Force as an Officer for 8 years,
stationed in the US and Germany. He is
now self-employed as an environmental and
safety consulting, His artistic endeavors were
confined largely to theatre for many years,
working professionally as an actor and being
involved in community theatres in Kansas,
Colorado, and Kentucky. About 3 years ago
Kelley threw himself into painting and found
he loved it. In those 3 years, he has had work
accepted into juried and invitational shows in
Texas, Colorado, Kentucky, and Montana. Marina strongly believes that good art can
change someone’s life for better. It certainly
changed mine. Last year she was lucky to
travel abroad, saw the best of the best in art
and realized her mission. That mission is
to share humanity in today’s “mechanical”
world, to keep culture in life. Marina started
the project “24 hours Painting Marathon”,
all proceeds were donated to her local
charity: Humane Society, local Art Museum,
Woman”s shelter, PETA, local Zoo. She
also does painting demos at schools and will
never stop. No surrender!
Dustin Lyon invites all to step back into a
time when life was more genteel. As a native
of Idaho, Lyon’s early life was filled with
wildlife, horses, and a land rich in history. These familiar subjects are often painted
against a backdrop from a specific locale
encountered in his travels throughout the
United States. Recognizable landmarks and
monuments create compositional effects in
his city views as well, lending an attitude of
familiarity for the viewer with each painting. Charles Fulcher

Charles Fulcher enjoys painting landscapes,
wildlife and western figurative. His paintings
have been described as edgy, fresh and full

private and public collections nationwide.

Bonnie Zahn Griffith started as an artist
from an early age when she helped herself to her mother’s art supplies and created.Bonnie is partial to pastels and oils
because they give the brilliant color she
seeks and the texture she needs to tell
the story on canvas or paper. Bonnie is
a member of several pastel societies and
has participated in many quick draws,
solo and invitational exhibitions, and
plein air events. She lives and works in
her studio in Meridian, ID and in plein air
wherever she might be. L18

Working with beads came to Corinne later
in life. She had always felt artistic but had
difficulty finding a path that would take her
into the future. Corinne started working with
beads in 2001. Since then she has taught
herself the current techniques that is used
to create her different pieces of art today.
She creates beaded tapestries that reflect her
inspiration of the moment in an art rarely seen.
Subject matter can be southwest, people,
nature, abstract, etc. In addition, sculptural,
embellished, and tactile art all consisting in
whole or part of beads have been added to
Corinne’s artistic ability.

Part of this education took place in Ireland
where he developed a connection with the
historical landscape. His paintings capture
the beauty of the landscape as the light baths
across the forms that were crated by industry.
His paintings hold the acidic, toxic quality
left after the process of extraction. He has
primarily supported himself through painting
and teaching part-time at the University of

Carol McSweeney was born, raised and
educated in Boston and the NYC area,
but moved West in her 20s. She has a
deep affinity for and interest in expressing
emotion through painting. Her watercolor
effects may look loose and lively but are the
product of carful study and planning. Carol
is a signature member of many Watercolor
Societies regionally and nationally and has
been published and featured in well known
art magazines.
James Vincent is a native of Riverton, WY
and now resides in Billings, MT. He started
as an interventional cardiologist and later in
life became a pastel artist. He is the designer
and founding co-director of the Welch
Heart Center in Billings, MT. James Lebor
and Robert Tompkins have been mentors
to James. Many artists including Maynard

Stephen David Rathburn is an exceptional
Montana Landscape painter. When painting
oils, he paints primarily with a palette knife
and uses only seven colors. In the last three
years, Stephen has sold to collectors in New
York, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, California as
well as Montana and Wyoming. His strong
background in watercolor influences his style
in oil and his desire to exhibit marbled strokes
of color as it mends together on canvas.

Michael Blessing

Gordon McConnell’s paintings have been
inspired by and derived from western film
images. He’s drawn particularly to the
action scenes of black and white westerns
dating from the late 1930s through the early
1950s. Flying teams of horses, stagecoaches
smothered in sun-struck dust, desperate
bandits on the run, cowboys, cavalry troopers,
and fearless Indians—wild riders all—are
the main subjects in his work. He strives to
capture this furious action and suspend it in a
matrix of dancing paint, to embody something
that is elemental and timeless, animated and
abstract. A shimmering blur of perception,
passion and memory is transposed in an
interchange of gesture and description.
Bill Drum was born and raised in Miles
City. He attended Cornell University, the
University of Montana, and the American
Graduate
School
for
International
Management. He lived and worked in Sao
Paulo, Brazil, Mexico City, New York and
California. Bill’s found steel comes from
Montana salvage yards, some of which date
back fifty to hundred years. Each sculpted
figure is individually done and matchless. The unique colors and patinas of the steel
result from decades of exposure to blistering
summers and frigid winters in Montana.
Michael Blessing spent his formative years
in rural Montana, surrounded by the land,
the people, and the usual conglomeration of
machinery. After pursuing a Master’s degree
in Music Arts, he spent the next thirty years
owning and running two recording studios
and working in the music industry in the areas
of performance, production, and engineering.

raised 2 daughters in Ennis, Montana. In the
past several years, she has attended shows
all over Montana and Idaho & Washington
State. Her choice mediums are oils and
acrylics. Using wood panels and canvas.
Western and Wildlife are her main focus. Her
daily surroundings are abundant with these. The most pleasure she gets with painting
is painting animals with attitude. Western
themes from re- enactments that reflect
the 1800s are a huge part of her paintings. There is nothing more meaningful then being
surrounded by the past and present of that
life. “Deep souls, hard work and much love”.

learned this art by taking classes at the WAM.
Growing up on the ranch, gave Sherry a lot
of inspiration that is reflected in her art. Her

colors of rural Montana. Sherry considers
herself a self-taught artist as she has had no
formal art training. Sherry retired from a
teaching career in 2011, and since then has
had more time to dedicate to her art. Sherry

Ideas conscious and unconscious are
important. Peter likes to imagine that
his artistic endeavors are intuitive,
bubbling up from the unconscious
parts of him, revealing things he barely know about his self. Some of that
is true. S He is drawn to form and
forming, there is little as centering
as getting ones hands in clay. Knowing that a pot “sings” with the glaze
that is applied, he now pays more attention to the glass covering of these
objects. And he currently likes RED! And yes, the chop is a snake.
