2016 SPRING & SUMMER YOUTH ACTIVITIES GUIDE
Dear Bullhead City Families,
Publishing of the fifth Youth Activities Guide is an important milestone for our community as it shows tremendous
support for the youth of Bullhead City. Activities, clubs and events abound for youth in our area. There are many, many
positive activities readily accessible for the youth of Bullhead City. From bikes to boards, drama to band, athletic
activities to academic adventures, there is most certainly a club or organization to pique the interest of every young
individual in Bullhead City.
Extracurricular activities at school and in the community such as soccer, garden clubs, basketball, baseball, chess
clubs, student government, yearbook, drama, band, and many others can round out a student’s academic career. They
also provide a great opportunity to develop lifelong friendships and create lasting memories. Besides being fun and
assisting with a student’s overall development, extracurricular activities can enhance time and stress management
skills, improving overall productivity. They also increase a candidate’s appeal when applying to college. There really are
countless benefits to becoming actively involved.
If all of these weren’t enough evidence to get our youth active, here are a few more:
• “Any parent knows that young children are filled with energy, eager to run, jump and play. Transferring that
natural energy to competitive sports can help keep kids active and healthy as the grow, and other distractions increase that may lead to a more sedentary lifestyle. Competitive sports such as soccer, track,
basketball and swimming can also help kids learn important life lessons about teamwork. Playing sports can
help kids understand how competition works in a friendly environment, and that if you try your hardest, you
have a better chance to succeed.” - Livestrong.com.
•
According to the CDC, active youths build strong bones and muscles. Staying active decreases the likelihood of obesity and risk factors for diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It may also reduce
anxiety and depression and promote positive mental health.
•
“Increasing the number of hours per day youths participate in physical activities; strengthen their ability to
interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships,” Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Empowering the youth of Bullhead City and surrounding areas is simply the right thing to do. Youngsters in a
community thrive when they are actively engaged with their peers in a safe environment. As they participate in clubs,
organizations, and activities, young people experience small successes which proactively establish their fate. Since our
youth today are our workforce of the future, we are especially honored to share the activities and organizations listed in
this magazine. These activities and organizations will ultimately empower them to create a destiny filled with success.
Please join us by getting involved with the youth of today to create a better Bullhead City for tomorrow.
Special thanks to all of the advertisers within this magazine. It was their money that paid for this publication.
Please stop by and thank them for making a difference in the lives of area youth.
Sincerely,
Toby Cotter
