Helsinki hosts an average year of 100 international
conventions attended by more than 20 000 delegates
and 1600 international meetings with nearly 100 000
delegates. Adding to that, there are innumerable
national conferences, events and theme days
annually. However, it’s about more than dedication
that keeps Helsinki ahead of the pack when it comes
to arranging meetings, conferences and conventions
of any size. It’s about northern professionalism and
unparalleled service. And it’s about the substantial
benefits of Helsinki.
Easy to come, easy to go
Helsinki is easy to reach by air, rail or sea. Around 40 airlines operate to
Helsinki, and Helsinki-Vantaa airport boasts more than 180 international
landings daily. Only 25 minutes away from the city centre, it has been
rated among the best by its users for many years in a row. With more
time to spare, you could choose a picturesque ferry crossing either from
Sweden, Germany, Poland and Estonia. Or for an easterly route, you may
sample a train ride from St. Petersburg or Moscow.

There’s an abundance of venues to meet your needs,
whether it’s a 10 person meeting or a 10 000 delegate
congress we are talking about. Naturally, all venues
can be adapted for the special requirements you
may have. Flexibility is an all-encompassing quality
in our service. As you would expect in Finland, the
technical infrastructure is always top notch, whatever
your choice of venue is. Conference organizers can
customise events as well as offer attractively priced
packages.
The Helsinki night is filled with music, people and electricity. The city
has an active nightlife throughout the year, and there is a good mix of
styles to suit all tastes. Helsinki does not compete with other cities in
terms of the amount of nightlife but rather its quality. A wide range of
clubs and bars offers a choice of atmospheres and price levels. Helsinki
also offers many stylish and unique venues for memorable gala dinners
and banquets. High-quality restaurants, modern steel-and-glass spaces,
historic brick-arch halls and other architecturally impressive banqueting
alternatives are offered in all seasons. Especially popular in the summer
months are the restaurants on the many islands in Helsinki’s archipelago.
A variety of professional entertainment can also be tailor-made to suit
the special event. Anything from classical Finnish music to hard rock
hallelujah can be performed during banquets and dinners.
Accommodation for all
Helsinki offers about 8000 rooms with 14 000 beds
in around 60 locations, ranging from firstclass hotels
to hostels for the more economically minded. Most
are within 1.5 kilometres of city centre. The majority
of international hotel chains, such as Best Western,
Crowne Plaza, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Luxury Collection,
Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Radisson Blu,
Scandic and Sokos, have presence in Helsinki. Usually
breakfast and taxes are included in the room prices.
Note, however, that official ratings aren’t used in
Finland. The ratings provided in this manual are only
approximate and are provided by the Helsinki City
Tourist & Convention Bureau.
Touring before or after
When the meeting is over or before it has even started, delegates may
enjoy the numerous supplementary programmes and outings Helsinki
and its outlying areas have in store. There are, of course, guided tours
by bus, tram, boat or even by foot. Unguided, you may plunge into
Helsinki’s active cultural life – exhibitions, museums, concerts, theatre
or clubbing – whatever is the name of the game. If there’s more time to
spare, Lapland and other areas of interest in Finland are easily reached
by train or plane. Just as easy it is to have a taste of Russia... Or to make
a day trip to Tallinn with 35–40 daily crossings to choose from. On top
of that, excellent air and sea connections to Stockholm make the capital
of Sweden an attractive choice, too.
Big and small enough
Compact in size, there’s only half a million inhabitants in the city itself.
This translates into a relaxed, friendly and safe atmosphere that invites
delegates to enjoy and to make use of their stay to the full.
Practically everything in central Helsinki – hotels, restaurants, cafes,
shops and sights – are within a walking distance. And if not in the mood
for a stroll, you can always take a taxi or use Helsinki’s efficient public
transports. Traffic in a city this small is a breeze compared to many.
Language is not a problem either. As most Finns take it for granted
that you don’t speak their language, they are glad to make use of their
English or other European languages they master. Finland is in fact a
bilingual country, the second official language being Swedish.

Scandic Marina Congress Center is a unique congress center located
right in the heart of the city. Its waterfront location, only a short walk
from Helsinki centre, makes Marina Congress Center an incomparable
venue for conference and gala events. The magnificent sea view
towards the Helsinki archipelago creates extra value through-out
the year. Marina Congress Center offers 11 meeting rooms with
exceptionally flexible space solutions. The facilities are ideal for
hosting conferences and congresses for 10–700 persons, also

rooms vary from spacious halls to a private dining room with seaside

Finlandia Hall is one of the leading congress, event and entertainment
venues in Finland. Centrally located, in park-like surroundings, Finlandia
Hall is ideal for conferences, concerts and exhibitions, as well as smaller
meetings, concerts and light entertainment. Finlandia Hall has hosted
numerous international congresses and other events over the years.
Finlandia Hall is a masterpiece by the great Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.
About 3,000 square meters of new facilities for conferences, exhibitions
and festivities will be opened in the spring of 2011.

The Helsinki Hall of Culture was designed by Alvar Aalto and it was
completed in 1958. The main hall, Aalto Hall, is a perfect venue for
conferences, galas and concerts.

Helsinki Congress Paasitorni operates in a 100-year-old building
which has been skilfully restored. Paasitorni houses nearly 30 meeting
rooms with modern technical equipment for groups of 8-800. This
unique conference centre is located close to the city centre and is
easily accessible by public transport. Paasitorni was among the first
conference venues in Finland to receive ISO 9001 quality certificate
in 1999.

Wanha Satama is a prominent venue for events of all kinds: fairs
and exhibitions, meetings and seminars, parties and banquets. All
exhibition and catering services are available on-site. The Wanha
Satama is a combination of old atmosphere and modern efficiency and
technology. The 110-year-old warehouse building consists of 8 halls
which can be used in different combinations. Each hall has arched
windows, brick walls and old wooden pillars.

This distinctive restaurant at the very centre of Helsinki has been
constructed in an old bank building which has been transformed
into its current state honouring the original 50s style. The result is a

HTC Helsinki is located in Ruoholahti area by the sea. It was built in
2002 and consists of five different buildings: Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria,
Vega and Kon-Tiki. Auditorium Kolumbus seats 235 persons, seminar
rooms Magalhaes and Vasco da Gama 20-70 persons. There are also
two special saunas: Albatrossi and Pohjankiisla which are located in
the top floor with roof gardens. There is a meeting room and a lounge
in both saunas.

In Suomenlinna sea fortress there are nine venues of different sizes and
types available. The venues in the 18th century for-tress and a Unesco
World Heritage site are suitable for hosting variety of events such as
seminars, conferences and banquets. The venues were originally part
of the military fortification during the periods of Swedish and Russian
rule, and were used as a gunpowder magazine, a granary, a church and
a barracks. There is no public transportation on the island but all the
venues are within walking distance from the main quay.

This historical venue, with its unique and impressive architecture,

Palace Gourmet, founded in 1952, is a successful fusion of traditional
and contemporary. The meeting rooms at the Palace can be easily tailored to specific needs and can accommodate hundreds of delegates.
The Conference Hall and Union Hall are ideal backdrops for hosting
even high-powered international business events. Seven private rooms
provide a superb venue for meetings. The rooms are separate, but can
be easily opened up to form one large conference hall. The Banquet
Floor at the Palace is the ideal place to combine a fun evening with a
great meal. In addition to entertainment, the Banquet Floor provides

The Saaga Restaurant brings you the magic of Lapland in good food

begins at the end of April and continues until autumn. The restaurant
has a summer terrace with a sea view with 200 seats. Located in a

Korjaamo Culture Factory is an international cultural centre in Helsinki,
with lots of opportunities for cultural recreation in a cutting edge
urban/industrial design environment. Korjaamo consists of two
buildings each built at the beginning of 19th century. There’s also
a terrace and a courtyard with a private garden between the two
neighbouring buildings. Korjaamo hosts two main venues for rent. In

The Arppeanum building (designed by architect C.A. Edelfelt) was
completed in 1869 to house the chemistry laboratory and museum
collections of the Imperial Alexander University. The appearance of
the building is influenced by the kind of architecture that was prevalent in 19th century Hamburg, with features of Venetian palazzo. The
building’s castiron staircase with its rich ornamentation is unique in
Finland. The Emperors’ Hall with the fulllength portraits of Russian
emperors is the main room for dinners and cocktails. The Neo-Gothic
interior design of the lecture room has been partly preserved and offers festive atmosphere for lectures, seminars and corporate events.
The Villa was built in 1846, and it represents Italian villa style as well
as roundarched style. Nowadays it is a museum with exhibition rooms
in both floors and a lift for the handicapped. The use of the premises

Hartwall Arena
The Hartwall Arena is one of the liveliest centres of entertainment
in Europe: concerts, operas, dance performances, top icehockey and
other sporting events, and to an increasing extent private corporate
events.. Various premises, both large and small, can easily be combined to suit the occasion, the theme or the product to be launched. The
arena level seats the stage for big events and can seat up to 1000 for
gala dinner. Inside the Hartwall Arena there are smaller restaurants
which can be booked for private functions.
Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre, is a hands-on exhibition and

This exotic winter garden, founded in 1893, includes over 200 different species of plants. In the palm room you’ll find room high palm
trees, Norfolk Island pines and camelias. The camelias flower usually
from October to February. A summery atmosphere prevails throughout
the year. The more than 200 plants bloom in three different spaces: in
the palms room, in the western wing and in the cactus room. Besides
the plants, carps swimming about in their pond add to the charm of
the Garden. The garden can host seated functions for about 80 persons at small tables. Cocktails for about 100–150 persons in winter,
and for about 200–250 persons in summer when the yard is in use.
There is not kitchen in the premises.

The National Museum of Finland illustrates Finnish history from
prehistoric times to the present day. Major archaeological finds, the
historical, numismatic and ethnological collections have been put
together for over 170 years. Functions and conferences can be combined with a visit to the museum’s permanent or temporary exhibitions. In addition to its museum and exhibition activities, the National
Museum of Finland has high-standard facilities for arranging various
kinds of functions, such as conferences, seminars and media launches
in its spacious and well equipped auditorium. Situated on the ground
floor of the museum, the auditorium seats 212 people. There is a
separate access from street level to the conference facilities.
The Helsinki Ice Hall is suitable for diverse corporate events. The arena
level is suitable for gala dinners for 1000 people and a meeting for
1200 people. There are also various restaurants inside the Ice hall.

The red-brick museum is located in original site of Helsinki, in Vanhakaupunki by rapids. There are three buildings in the area, and the
museum is in an former flour mill built in 1884. A presentation of
the development of mill activities is on display in the museum. The
premises are not heated and can thus used during warm seasons only.
The Water Board’s turbine pumping station, steam power plant and
mill offer a glimpse of the area’s centuriesold industrial traditions. The
museum also has pleasant public grounds. Cocktails for about 400
persons indoors. Weather permitting, extra space in the yard (about
150 persons), tents also available. There is no kitchen in the premises.
This spacious room with more than five metre high ceiling makes a
nice setting for different kinds of parties and occasions. The space
may also be used as conference room or for meetings. This seaside
facility is located on city centre Helsinki at the foot of the Uspenski
Cathedral. The venue is suitable for groups from 5 to 80 persons.

BUS, METRO, TRAM AND LOCAL TRAIN
There are different tickets for different needs. Tickets can be bought
at retail kiosks as well as at the service points belonging to Helsinki
City Transport (HKL). Single-trip tickets are sold on the buses and
trams. The same HKL ticket is valid for travel on buses, metro, tram
and commuter trains within the Helsinki city limits. There is a slightly
more expensive regional ticket, which you can also use in the adjacent
municipalities of Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen. Travel cards can be
