GWHS Winter 2015 Newsletter - Governor Wolf Historical Society
Winter 2015
Antiques Show
March 7 & 8
The GWHS Park will be the setting for 35 quality antiques stands with dealers coming from as far away
as Vermont. Again, in addition to speakers on Sunday, we will have an auction of a few antiques and
donated items. Dealer’s stands will be in all three of the historic buildings featuring historic room
settings, hearth cooking & tasting and informative speakers. The
dates align again with the 15th annual “Heart of the Valley” antique
show at the Ice House in Bethlehem.
Many attendees last year enjoyed an
exciting day of antiquing by visiting
both shows, only 8 miles apart.
Jen & Allen
George, owners of the “Daily Grind” in Bath will be
back serving up delicious coffee,
sandwiches & more in the Schoolhouse Café.

Can you help with the Antiques Show?
Get involved and help the society with the 7th Annual Antiques Show.
We need helpers to assist the dealers in carrying their items in to
the buildings on Fri 3/6 from 9AM – 4 PM, Sat 3/7 from 7AM-10AM
and Sun 3/8 from 4-6PM.
If you are able to help a couple of hours, call Darrin 610-390-0720
Our Spring trip this year will be to 3 very
historic structures in Central New Jersey.
Our first stop will be the Abraham Staats
House in So. Bound Brook. The Abraham Staats House is one of the finest surviving buildings from the Dutch Settlement of the Raritan Valley
in the 18th century. The house had an interesting history during the
American Revolution when it served as the headquarters of General von Steuben during the second Middlebrook Encampment (1779).
After visiting the Staats House, we will
have a short lunch and then on to East Jersey
Olde Town Village. The Village is a collection of
original, replica and reconstructed 18th and 19th century structures.
While most of the buildings have been relocated to the site, others were
constructed here. They represent the vernacular architecture typical of
farm and merchant communities once found in central New Jersey.
The last stop will be the Cornelius Low House Museum. The Cornelius Low House was built in 1741 as the
home of a wealthy merchant of Dutch ancestry. This two-story stone house is now
the Middlesex County Museum presenting
changing exhibits about state and local history with related school, outreach, and
public programs.
The trip will take place on May 3rd, 2015. To sign up, please send an
email to Al Rauber at: [email protected] or call 412 805 0546. Do not leave a message on the GWHS
phone as it may not be received. We are once again attempting to have a bus transport all going on the
trip.
