exico and Central America are home to a rich tapestry of cultures from the agrarian indigenous tribes that live much
as they have done to the African descendants that have called it home since the 17th century whilst the heavy Spanish
influence can be felt in the charming colonial towns dotted throughout. Dating back some 4,000 years, the ancient Maya
culture has left its mark in the form of remarkable ruins of temples reached by towering staircases and intricately carved
stone structures that are slowly being claimed by the sultry jungle.
The Caribbean islands are famous for their magnificent climate, spectacular beaches, idyllic seascapes and diverse flora and fauna. The

With weekly departures, our independent tours are fully guided by

In recent years ‘Responsible Travel’ has become a very familiar term, but what
is it? To put it simply, it is our responsibility to ensure we offer holidays that are
sensitive to the environments and communities you visit, and it is your responsibility as a traveller to ensure you tread carefully, respecting local laws and
customs and avoiding any negative impact on the local environment.
Our responsibility
To us, Responsible Tourism is nothing new. Ever since we started in 1999, we
have believed that it’s our responsibility to do all we can to protect the places
to which we send clients and to ensure that as much as possible of the money
spent filters through to local economies.
We, and everyone we ask to deliver services to you, take pride in offering
responsible holidays with minimal impact on the environment, support for
community development and ensuring good working conditions. We relay
our RT policy to all of our suppliers and they in turn sign an agreement of best
practice.
How you can get involved
Clients often ask us what they can do to ensure they travel responsibly. The
following is best practice:
Before you go..
Learn something about the countries you plan to visit to find out about the
culture, politics, geography, religion and local customs.
Try and remove unnecessary packaging from any products you are taking
with you, and dispose of it at home first. Recycling has yet to really take off in
Latin America so the less you leave the better!
Whilst on your travels ..
In the market…
Buy local handicrafts and support local artisans. When bargaining, remember
that a small saving for you could make a big difference for the seller. Don’t
buy ancient artifacts or anything made with endangered animals or plants
e.g. hardwoods, shells, exotic feathers, coral, furs or eggs.
Eating out...
Choose smaller local restaurants, bars and cafes where possible so your
money benefits local people. Sample the local cuisine using local produce.
Out and about...
Remember to respect local traditions and culture. Ask permission before photographing indigenous people and events, particularly religious processions.
Ask for an address and send photos to the people you photographed, many
won’t have photos of their families.
Simple gifts for children, such as crayons, balloons, colouring books or even
a mini football can bring a huge smile to a child’s face. Resist handing out
sweets as dental care is, mostly, poor. Giving money to children on the street
only encourages begging; instead consider donating to schools or local conservation or charitable organisations.
Speaking with people…
Why not try and learn some of the lingo? Speaking a few words of the local
language, even if it is just ‘hola’ or ‘gracias’, will change the way people react
to you. You’ll get a much warmer welcome and this in turn can enrich your
experience and interaction with the local people.
Traditions and ways of life differ greatly across the cultures of Latin America. As
a rule of thumb, people in lowland regions are more gregarious and relaxed
than those who live a more austere life in the mountains, and many Latin
Americans are modest and camera-shy.
Please try to be sensitive to local customs. The pace of life outside the main
cities is slower than in Australia, and you may have to draw on your reserves
of patience in some situations. There is still widespread poverty in many countries: you may like to consider taking clothes, shoes or toys with you that you
might be happy to leave behind.

Minimise your environmental impact…
Stick to the paths and walkways whether you are in the jungle, on a mountain
trek or in a Mayan ruin. They are there for your safety and also to preserve the
local wildlife and help to avoid further erosion of the landscape.
In your hotel…
Clean water is a precious resource, so use it sparingly. Try and take quick
showers rather than baths as this helps to save water. Advise your hotel that
you don’t need towels or sheets laundered daily. This can save on water and
energy. Conserve electricity by switching off lights, air-conditioning or heating
when you leave your room.
Use environmentally friendly shampoos and detergents, particularly when
you are outside big cities in ‘the wild’ and your shower water is going to end
up in a river! Try to reuse and refill your drinking water bottles where possible.
Many hotels have water ‘garafons’ filled with treated ‘agua potable’ that is
perfectly safe to drink. If your hotel does not, you could leave a suggestion
that they provide one.

Day 1: Arrive in Playa del Carmen
Welcome to Mexico! You will arrive at Cancun International Airport. Meet and assist at the airport
and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Hotel Playa
del Carmen (or similar).
Day 2: Playa del Carmen
Today you can enjoy the white sand beach of Playa del Carmen, take an optional day tour or enjoy
some shopping. There is lots to see and do in this
charming seaside city. Overnight at Hotel Playa
del Carmen or similar. Day 3: Playa del Carmen - Caye Caulker, Belize Today we must leave by land pleasant Playa
del Carmen to Chetumal and continue by boat
to the quiet Caye Caulker, This place is known
for having a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
On early British maps the island’s name is spelled
“”Cay Corker”” because sailors used to stop here
to fill their water bottles with fresh water. Back
then these water bottles were sealed with corks!

Day1 4: Caye Caulker Make the most of the island’s natural splendor by
exploring the coral reef. There are plenty of fullday and
half-day diving and snorkeling optional2
tours to choose from or you can choose to spend
a simple day at the beach. Explore the second
largest coral reef in the world and try and get close
to an amazing manatee! Overnight at Hotel Caye
Caulker Plaza (or similar).
Day 5: Caye Caulker Today you can once again do as you please. Relax on the beach or do some more marine exploration. Make sure you try some of the local foods
while you’re here! Enjoy another night at the Hotel
Caye Caulker Plaza (or similar).
Day 6: Caye-Caulker - San Ignacio
Travel by boat to Belize City and bus to San Ignacio in
Belize. This colonial city is remarkably beautiful. Here
you can explore elaborate architecture in a country with beautiful and dense, mysteriously beautiful
rainforests. Overnight at Trek Stop Hotel or a similar .

Day 7: San Ignacio
There are plenty of optional excursions in this area.
This town is very near some unique Mayan ruins
as well as a great location from which to embark
on adventure activities. Try out kayaking, caving,
hiking, horseback riding and more! You will once
again overnight at the Hotel Trek Stop or similar. Day 8: San Ignacio – Tikal- Flores
In the early morning we will cross the border and
go directly to Tikal National Park to see some
Mayan ruins and then we will make our way to
Flores, a beautiful town by Petén Lake. Spend
the afternoon at your leisure. There are many remarkable natural and archaeological wonders in
the region. Overnight at Hotel Casona de la Isla.

Day 9: Flores – Rio Dulce Travel from Flores to Rio Dulce town and enjoy the
view of the river. Rio Dulce, which means ‘Sweet
River’, is a lovely town intersected by waterways.
A boat tour is one of the best ways to see this
beautiful location. Tonight travelers will stay at
the hospitable Hotel Hacienda Tijax (or similar).

Day 10: Rio Dulce
You have the whole day to explore whichever sites
you find most interesting. Some of the most popular include the Citadel of the Castillo San Felipe,
the Mayan Ruins of Quirigua, the Finca Paraiso
Hot-springs and Waterfall, and the Rio Dulce National Park. Really take this opportunity to explore
the wild side of Mexico. Stay at the charming
Hotel Hacienda Tijax or similar for a second evening.
Day 11: Rio Dulce - Antigua Today you will have the time to explore this
lovely town. Tour the museum, churches, and
colonial buildings. Antigua is a great place to
buy colorful fabrics, jade jewelry, and silver trinkets. Look forward to a relaxing overnight stay
at the peaceful Posada La Merced or similar.

Dulce Guatemala City / Private Guatemala - Antigua)
Day 12: Antigua – Panajachel Travel by land to Panajachel, located in the

If you are up for an adventure we recommend a
visit to 2the east end of the island to the largest of
all the Bay Island beaches for some opportunity to
snorkel, diving and kayaking. Return to the Hotel
La Quinta Inn for a second evening.
Day 6: Roatán
Roatán is a world-famous destination for SCUBA
diving and snorkelling. The coral reef here is home
to sea turtles, dolphins, rays, hundreds of species
of colorful fish, corals and sea-sponges. You can
also explore the clear waters on a boat, kayak or
paddleboard. Spend another great night at Hotel

Day 7: Roatán - Tegucigalpa - León
Morning domestic flight to the city of Tegucigalpa,
where a comfortable bus will be waiting to take us

Day 8: León - Managua - Granada
In the afternoon you will visit Granada, a town on
the shores of Lake Nicaragua. This small town is
rich in both nature and history. Here you will visit an

Day 9: Granada
The city of Granada is one of the most important
and most visited destinations in Nicaragua. Granada’s many museums, galleries, hotels, restaurants,

visit the Mombacho Volcano and the rare and exotic cloud forest that grows around it. Overnight at

Day 10 : Granada
Today you have a free day to partake in activities
such as surfing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, rappelling
and stand up paddle-boarding, sailing at sunset,
or yoga! This is also a great time to explore the city

Day 11: Granada - Isla Ometepe
Today you will visit Ometepe, a beautiful island
in Lake Nicaragua. Remarkable little island with
spectacular natural features, fascinating archaeological sites, and tranquil beaches. Tonight you will

Day 12: Isla de Ometepe
Free day for optional excursions such as climbing one of the two volcanoes on the island,

Day 13: Isla de Ometepe - Monteverde
Ferry back to San Jorge. Continue by public buses
to Peñas Blancas, the border Between Costa Rica

After your arrival in Havana, you will be met and
assisted at the airport and transferred to the Hotel

first night.
Day 2: Havana
Explore the historic center of Havana - Habana
Vieja - on a guided tour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. The city’s historic flair is omnipresent in the old town’s maze of tiny streets. Visit

Day 3: Havana – Pinar del Río – Viñales
After breakfast you will head westward. You will
stop and visit a “Casa del Veguero” (house of a
tobacco farmer) surrounded by lush tobacco

visit the “Cueva del Indio”. Today’s overnight accommodation is located in Vinales, a small town
situated between green tobacco fields and monumental limestone formations called ‘Mogotes’.

Day 4: Viñales - Cienfuegos
Trip to sunny Cienfuegos. Cienfuegos is one of the

Day 5: Cienfuegos - Trinidad
Todays journey will bring you to Trinidad. A colonial city which was founded in 1514 and declared

Park of Topes de Collantes. Lunch will be served

Day 6: Trinidad
Start your day with a guided walking tour of exciting Trinidad. There is lots to see in the colonial old
town of Trinidad, including the Palacio Brunet, one
of the most beautiful palaces of the city. Today,
the Palacio Brunet is home of the Museo Romantico. In the afternoon you will go on an excursion
to the beach where you can enjoy the Caribbean

Day 7: Trinidad - Havana

Day 8: Havana - Cancun - Chichen Itza

Breakfast. Full day tour of Teotihuacan and Guadalupe Shrine with lunch. We start with a stop at

Square. Continue to Guadalupe Shrine, the second most visited catholic sanctuary in the world.

the afternoon continue to the massive archae2
ological site of Teotihuacan (500 BC-AD 700). The

was the first major urban area in the New
World and was named “the City of the Gods”. On
the1 site we will see the Pyramid of the Sun, which
the adventurous can climb. This is the pyramid at
which the cult of the famous god Quetzalcoatl
began.2 Legend dictates that he allowed himself
to be tested by bravely casting himself into a fire.
He survived the fire but was transformed into a
plumed serpent. Other structures on the site in-
clude the Pyramid of the Moon, the Avenue of the
Dead, and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. We have
a comprehensive tour of the site, before heading

Breakfast. Visit to the archeological site of
Palenque, built in the heart of a jungle. This city
was one of the most important urban centers of
the Mayan culture. Now it is one of the most popular and important archeological sites due both
for the historical discoveries and for the beauty of
them. The sarcophagus of king Pakal was found
inside the “Piramide de las Inscripciones” (inscriptions pyramid) with a tombstone engraved in

and humid, particularly in the south, and inland temperatures can approach freezing
during December-February.

Copper Canyon 5D/4N
When people talk about the Copper Canyon, they are
referring to a section of the Sierra Madre of northwestern
Mexico known as the Sierra Tarahumara (after the indigenous people who live there). The area was formed through
violent volcanic uplifting followed by the gradual process of
erosion that carved a vast network of canyons into the soft
volcanic stone. In geological time, it’s much newer than the
Grand Canyon.
Crossing the Sierra Tarahumara is the famed Chihuahua
al Pacífico railway. Acclaimed as an engineering marvel,
the 624km (387-mile) railroad has 39 bridges -- the highest is
more than 300m (984 ft.) above the Chinipas River, and the
longest is about.5km long and 86 tunnels, including one that
stretches more than 1.5km long. It climbs from Los Mochis,
at sea level, up nearly 2,425m (7,954 ft.) through some of
Mexico’s most magnificent scenery - thick pine forests, jagged peaks, and shadowy canyons - before descending to
the city of Chihuahua.

There isn’t a bad time to visit Cuba. The hot,
rainy season runs from May to October with
occassional hurricanes from August to October but winter (December to April) is the island’s peak tourist season, when planeloads
of Canadians and Europeans arrive in pursuit
of the southern sun. Cubans take their holidays in July and August, so this is when the
local beaches are most crowded. Christmas,
Easter and the period around 26 July, when
Cubans celebrate the anniversary of the revolution, are also very busy.

Booking Conditions and Responsibility
Please ensure you understand the following conditions
before you book your holiday. Reservations are accepted
on the basis that you abide by the following conditions.
All tours in this brochure and others that we may create
are operated by Travel Projects Pty Ltd. Suite 805, 365 Little
Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000.
Travel Projects refers only to the tour operating company
specified on this page, as does “we”, “us” and “ours”.
Bookings are taken on the basis that you accept these
conditions.
Payment Terms
Deposits
A non-refundable deposit of $300 per person for land
services is required in order to confirm and secure your
reservation. Failure to pay the deposit on time may result
in your booking to be cancelled. Should you need to
re-instate any expired reservation due to a non payment
of the deposit, we will charge a $55 amendment fee in
addition to immediate payment of standard deposit.
Additional Deposits
Multi-Country Tours: 25% per person, payable within 5 days
of confirmation (Non -refundable)
Rio de Janeiro/Salvador Carnival/New Year’s Eve: Immediate, NON REFUNDABLE full payment is required on
confirmation.
Inca Trail: $600 per person non-refundable for us to
request.
Galapagos Cruises: 25% per person non-refundable within
5 days of confirmation.
Jungle Lodges: 50% per person non-refundable within 5
days of confirmation.
Skorpios Cruises: 25% per person non-refundable within 5
days of confirmation.
Amazon Cruises: 30% with conditions. Per person is required within 5 days of confirmation.
Australis Cruises: 30% non-refundable deposit within 5 days
of confirmation.
Atacama & Patagonia Lodges: 30% - 50% non-refundable
deposit within 5 days of confirmation.
Some services require immediate $300 deposit in order to
confirm
Final Payment
Full payment is required 60 days prior to departure from
Australia, please note, some services require stricter final
payment due dates that will be advised to you on the
invoice. If reservation is made within 30 days prior to departure, full payment is required at time of booking.
Cancellation Fees
All cancellations must be received in writing. Following
fees or percentages will be charged based on the date of
receipt in writing, by fax or by email by Travel Projects of
notification of cancellation. Cancellations will take effect
the day said written notification is received by us. The following fees apply per person, plus any other cancellation
fees and conditions imposed by other service operators
such as Antarctica, Patagonia and Galapagos cruises:
a. More than 60 days notice - Loss of deposits.
b. 30 to 60 days - 50 %
c. Less than 30 day - No refund.
Above-mentioned cancellation fees will be strictly adhered to and for this reason we strongly recommend you
to take out a travel insurance at the time of reservation.
Please advise if you want us to send you an application
form for insurance. There is no refund of pre-paid packages on special events
Amendments
Should you wish to amend your reservation, an amendment fee of $75 will be charged per amendment.
Prices
Prices shown in this manual have been calculated on
tariffs applicable as of 01 March 2016, and are subject to
change without notice. If between the date you make
your booking and the date of outbound travel from
Australia, these air fares and services change; you may be
required to pay additional charges. Acceptance of this
arrangement is a condition of booking.
Late Booking Fee
Bookings made within 15 days of commencement of
travel will incur a late booking administration fee of $ 55
plus courier costs if necessary.
Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend Travel Insurance, particularly
when touring in Latin America as medical costs and repatriation are very high in that area.
Refunds
Please note that there will be no refund of unused ground
content for any reason. If you make any alteration to any
portion of the holiday. Such alteration will be entirely at
your own expense.
Not included in tour cost
Visae, insurance, excess baggage, meals not mentioned, vaccinations, airport departure taxes, beverages,
tips, shipboard gratuities, items of personal nature like:
Laundry, telephone calls etc., cost of passport, personal
services to hotel rooms.
Validity
We have taken considerable care to make sure all
information, tours, itineraries, cruises, are correct at time
of printing. Circumstances beyond the control of Travel
Projects, may necessitate change in tours/itineraries/
cruises etc. up to the date of departure and including
after departure date.
Travel Projects can not be held responsible for any
changes that may occur and reserves the right to adjust,

Changes in Itinerary and Hotels
The operator reserves the right to deviate the itinerary and
substitute hotels should circumstances so dictate.
Limitations and Liability
Travel Projects Pty Ltd. wishes to advise that under the
Trade Practices Act and other legislation consumers have
a right to compensation if services are not provided with
due care and skill or if services are not reasonably fit for a
particular purpose made known by the consumer.
This right cannot be excluded. However we advise you
that services we render under this Agreement are the
booking and packaging of services/tours provided by
others such as hotels, transportation companies and tour
operators.
Travel Projects, its employees and agents will not be
responsible and exclude liability for loss or damage to
you outside their control including but not limited to any
act or omission, cancellation, delay, diversion, injury, loss
or damage occasioned to you or your property by air
carriers, accommodation providers or any other providers
of services to you.

incorporated in Victoria. Travel Agents Licensing Authority
License No 32 308, acts only as agent for the passenger(s)
in regard to travel.
Whether by railroad. Motor coach, boat or aeroplane
and assumes no liability for injury, damage, loss, accident,
delay or irregularity that may be occasioned by reason or
defect. Travel Projects Pty Ltd accepts NO RESPONSIBILITY
for loss or additional expenses due to delay or changes in
schedules or other causes.
