• MARCH 1: The King University Jazz
Band performs at 7:30 p.m., at the KeyserAday Theatre on the Virginia Highlands
Community College campus, Abingdon,
Va. Under the direction of Lonny Finley,
this group of young musicians presents a
program of jazz music. When asked what
America’s native music is, many folks answer
jazz. Born in the South from religious
gospel, African American roots, and sounds
from around the world, jazz is a unique
and highly prized form of American music.

as the “Rockstars of Bluegrass,” Dailey and

• MARCH 4: The Appalachia Piano
Trio performs in Brown Hall Auditorium
on the campus of East Tennessee State
University, Johnson City, Tenn., at 7:30 p.m.
The group consists of professors from three
universities in the region. Performers include
Miroslav Hristov (violin), Nathan Jasinski
(cello), David Kovac (viola) and Chih-Long
Hu (piano). They perform Rachmaninov’s
Piano Trio No. 2 and Brahms’ Piano Quartet
No. 1 with guest violist Kovac. $15 general

• MARCH 5: Johnson City Symphony
Orchestra performs “Classics IV – Musical
Odyssey” in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium
in Seeger Chapel on the Milligan College
campus at 7:30 p.m. Sonora Slocum,
flautist, joins the symphony in the
performance of Nielsen’s “Concerto for
Flute.” The symphony completes the evening
with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E
Minor, Op. 64. Maestro Seebacher presents
an informal lecture on the concert at the
Johnson City Public Library March 2 at 6:30

• MARCH 6: The First Presbyterian
Church of Bristol, Tenn., continues its Arts
Series with a concert by Dr. Timothy
Altman and Dr. Larry Wells, trumpets,
accompanied by Vicki Fey at the organ
at 3 p.m. The program includes the world
premiere of a newly commissioned piece by
Kevin McKee as well as standard trumpet
duo literature by Manfredini, Purcell and
Franceschini, plus another piece by McKee,
written in 2013. Admission is a suggested
donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students.

• MARCH 6: National touring artist,
Shane Piasecki and his band, perform at 8
p.m. at the Acoustic Coffeehouse, Johnson
City, Tenn. Nashville based singer/songwriter
Piasecki’s release, “Set You Free,” showcases
his explosive, rootsy blend of R&B, pop,
rock, folk and blues. “To me, songwriting
is really about chronicling the world as you
see it, and that’s always been the essence
of truly American music.” Piasecki says. “At
the end of the day, I’m trying to be a good

• MARCH 13: Pierce Pettis performs
a house concert at 4 p.m. Pettis has
performed in all 48 continental states as well
as in Canada and Europe, appeared nine
times on American Public Radio’s Mountain
Stage, been featured on National Public
Radio’s E-town, Morning Edition and World
Cafe ... appeared on VH-1, CBS News, and
the Nashville Network. His eight albums
have won critical acclaim. Suggested
donation is $25. Attendance is limited to 20.

• MARCH 17: Caladh Nua performs
at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center,
Greeneville, Tenn., at 7 p.m. A tightly knit,
vibrant band its origins are deeply rooted in
the Southern counties of Ireland. Comprised
of five musicians and singers playing a wide
selection of instruments - from banjo to
fiddle, guitar to bodhran, and tin whistle to
button accordion, the band has captured
the essential qualities of traditional Irish
music and balanced them with an innovative

University piano faculty joins forces for the
third event of the Music & Friends concert

College Choir, along with the college’s
Chamber Choir singers, perform a

sing Durufle’s “Requiem” and a series of

performs as a guest artist at Brown Hall
Auditorium, on the campus of East Tennessee

numerous prizes at international piano
competition. His playing has been praised
as having “wonderous range, impassioned
depth, enormous physical and emotional
