Parking–Metered parking is available along South Coast Highway
and Glenneyre St. as well as all cross streets throughout the HIP District.
Parking meters have various time limits. Read them carefully before parking.
Enforcement is from 8am-7pm, after 7pm it’s FREE. All parking meters
accept quarters and credit cards. With a handicapped placard, metered street
parking is FREE.
Many of the HIP District’s restaurants, stores and hotels offer guest and
customer parking areas but they may require parking validations, tokens
or guest parking passes. Customer parking lots and garages may be located
around the back or side, and sometimes may only be accessible through the
alleyways. The directory listings in this brochure have parking icons P to
show if that business has non-metered guest/customer parking.
Mainline “Blue Shuttle Bus” Service–The Mainline Service
operates six days a week, year round. There is no service on Sundays. The
Red route services the HIP District. Shuttles run approximately every hour.
Blue Shuttle Bus stops are located on your map and schedules are posted at
all stops. Ask your shuttle bus driver for a brochure and how to get a punch
pass for multiple rides.

The History Behind Laguna’s HIP District
Few know that before Laguna Beach had its current downtown, the heart of
the small business district in early Laguna was around Bluebird Canyon and
South Coast Highway. This historic place has been recently reborn as a thriving
and exciting business district we call the HIP District. “HIP” for Historic and
Interesting Places and “HIP” because it is! The HIP District is surrounded by the
ocean on the west and a portion of Village Laguna, with its beautifully restored
cottages, on the east. For shoppers, there are apparel stores offering exciting
fashions; 20 art galleries; 24 restaurants and several unique coffee shops with
outdoor seating. Some of the city’s most enjoyable hotels are located here.
There’s a neighborhood bookstore, florists, jewelry, a nursery with home decor
and much more. Scattered throughout the District are some of Laguna’s earliest
buildings including the Hotel La Casa del Camino, The Old Pottery Place, the
Historic Thalia St. Building and The English Garden. To totally enjoy a day in
Laguna stroll through this Laguna neighborhood and enjoy the variety of stores
where the locals shop, and get a sense of what living at the beach is all about.

FREE Trolley (Shuttle Service) on Coast Highway begins March

Sundays 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Trolleys run every 30 minutes. Summer service
begins late June through Labor Day with trolleys running daily from 9:30 AM to
11:30 PM. (They look like old trolleys so keep your camera ready to snap a
souvenir photo!)

The HIP District is located on the Orange Trail, one of five cultural trails within
Laguna Beach found on the official Laguna Beach map, yours free at the
Laguna Beach Visitors Center, 381 Forest Avenue (949) 497-9229.
Beaches
The HIP District boasts six beautiful public beaches. Lifeguard coverage varies
depending on the season with expanded service in the summer months. Please
obey all posted rules and regulations located at beach entrances. Fires, BBQs,
consumption of alcohol and smoking are not permitted on the beaches. Rules for
dogs on beaches are noted below:
Jun 15–Sep 10: Dogs are allowed on beaches before 9am & after 6pm.
Sep 11–June 14: Dogs are allowed on city beaches.
Year-round, dogs must be on a leash (6’ or shorter) at all times.
