Information on buying at Auction
Buyer Numbers
You need to register for a buyer number prior to bidding at an auction, which can be done in person or via the
website by clicking the ‘register’ link on the home page. You will need to provide us with your full name,
address and contact details. Your buyer number is permanent and can be used at any subsequent auction.
There is no fee for this service.
First Time Buyers
Once you have obtained your buyer number you can bid on any lot in the sale. If you have never bid at an
auction before then it is advisable to watch the auctioneer for a few lots so that you understand how the
bidding progresses. Do not be afraid to be bold with your bid and join the bidding early on so that the
auctioneer can register your interest. If you have any questions or concerns, our staff will be happy to help
you.
Pre-sale Bids
If you wish to bid in the sale but cannot attend the auction, then we are happy to bid on your behalf with a presale bid. Bids must be received in plenty of time before the commencement of the sale and it is advisable to
double check the lot numbers and the descriptions so that you leave the bids on the correct items.
Telephone Bids
If you cannot attend the auction and would prefer to book a telephone bid, we are happy to oblige. Telephone
bids must be received by 5pm the day before the sale.
Live Online Bidding
You can bid in real time over the internet from the comfort of your own home. To register for this service
please visit www.the-saleroom.com. Please be aware that there is an additional 3% charge on the hammer
price if you choose to bid in this way.
Condition of Lots
Although general condition reports may be found online by the lot descriptions, prospective buyers should
ensure that they have satisfied themselves as to the condition of any items they intend to buy. Lots are sold
‘as seen’ and their condition cannot be guaranteed.
Buyers Premium
The buyer’s premium payable on the hammer price is 19%, on which VAT is applicable.
Payment
Payment can be made by any of the following methods:
Cash, Debit Cards, Cheque (with guarantee card. If you are paying by cheque, goods will not be released until
the cheque has cleared), Visa and Mastercard (there is a 3% additional fee (on which VAT is applicable))

the sale unless prior arrangements have been agreed. If items are not collected within this time,
