Summary of Contact:
A.J. called yesterday.
He said that an article appeared in a Miami
paper about a special prosecutor who is taking a job with our Committee.
He said that this had a lot of people there upset, including Hemming, Hunt
and Sturgis.
He said that the reason this upset them was that they took
it as an indication that we had zeroed in on Miami and were determined to
get them.
Hence, a prosecutor knowledgable about Miami.
A.J. said that he had deposed Hunt Friday and that Hunt had changed his
story in at least one way.
A.J. said that before the deposition he told
Hemming that he had ·found Mr. Wah Ling who had told him he had been closed
on 11/22/63.· At the deposition Hunt said that he had not been at Wah Ling's
1
but at some other chinese grocery store on 11/22/63.
A.J. said that Hunt never looked at him but once during the deposition.
When A.J. asked
hi~
if he knew Winnifred Barnes Hunt gave him a searing l ook,
Hunt responded to the que~!tion. by··:asking where A.J. got his information and

alleging that A.J. had been in touch with a member of the HSCA who was
feeding him information.
Congressman Gonzales.
When asked who that was, Hunt said it was
Hunt denied knowing Barnes.
According to A.J., Winnifred Barnes was the name of a person who traveled
to Mexico City (via Larado) at about the same time as Oswald.
Barnes used
a U.S. passport (A.J. is sending the number) and gave an address in Miami.
'
After the assassination the FBI tried to find Barnes but found the address
to be fictional and that there was no record of a Winnifred Barnes in Miami.
To A.J. rs knowledge Barnes was never_located or questioned.
We can obtain a copy of the Hunt deposition form A.J. 's lawyer, Hark
Freedman, at 305-532-5409.
Recommendations:
1.
Obtain a copy of the Hunt depostion.
2.
Obtain Winnifred Barnes passport number.
3.
Obtain the State Department records on Barnes and/or the passport number.
4.
Do Agency traces on Winnifred Barnes if necessary.
5.
Question Hunt in hearings.

RE: ASSASSINATION OF
PRESIDENT JOHN F. .KENNEDY
NOVEMBER 22, 1963
ASSAULTING THE PRESIDENT
OF THE UNITED STATES
A review of Bureau files discloses that Alan Jules
Weberman, 6 Bleecker Street, New York, New York, was the subject
of Bureau file 100-472405, caption~d, "Alan jules Weberman Subversive Matter- Youth International Party," and Bureau file
190-1636, which is a Freedom of Information-Privacy Act File.
File 100-472405 shows that Weberman, in 1974, was employed as a
writer for Alternate Press Syndicate, New York City, and he
attended the Youth International Party (YIP)' "Smoke-In" which was
held in Washington, D. c., on 7/4/73. In ·August, 1973, he reportedly was handling YIP business from his apartment in New York City.
He was one of the organizers of a demonstration in Washington, D. C.,
on 11/23/73, which was held to promote interest in the reopening of
the investigation of the assassinati.on of President Kennedy.
The
file was closed in 1974. A preliminary investigation regarding him
was instituted on 4/28/76 for the purpose of determining his activities with the YIP and their plans for disrupting the Democratic
National Convention held in New York City, July 12-17, 1976. It was
determined that he did not engage ·in any violent acts nor did he
exhibit a propensity for violence, and the case was closed.
A review of Bureau file 190-1636 shows that Alan Jules
Weberman, 6 Bleecker Street, New York, New York 10012, has made
numerous requests under the FOIA, i.e., all records pertaining to
him from 1955 to 1976, declassified synopsis of the files of ·
J. Edgar Hoover, FBI reports dealing with the investigation of
possible toll calls placed by James Earl Ray, information regarding
our investigation of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther · King, . Jr.,
information concerni~g Lee Harvey Oswald, etc.
