Locations: La Casita Teen Center (909) 626-7162
Dates: 2nd Wednesday of each month
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of the Teen V.A.L.U.E Council Program
(TVC) is to develop youth leaders and to promote service
to their community. TVC members meet and discuss
issues impacting their community and then take action to
make a difference.
The goal of the council is to raise awareness of the value,
benefits, and significant contributions that volunteering
makes in the community. With great teamwork they
continue to promote effective volunteering practices and
principles, and serve as positive role models to fellow
youth and teens.
Since the implementation of the TVC in 2006, the council
has provided over 16,500 hours of service to the City and
community. Currently, the council has fifty (50) active
members. The council meets monthly at La Casita Teen
Center. Some of the projects include:American Red Cross
“Run for the Red”, Bethel Church Thanksgiving Food
Bank, Community Health Fair, City Beautification,
Belmont Shore Clean Up in Long Beach, and many other
projects that encourage members of the community to
participate as well.
In 2008-2011, the TVC was recognized by the City of
Pomona Mayor Elliott Rothman, Senator Gloria Negrete
McLeod, Willie White Focus Group, Pomona Bethel
Church, National Parent Helpline, American Red Cross,
and the Pomona Inland Valley Martin Luther King Jr.
Project Scholarship Committee for their valuable
contributions to the community.
The Youth Activity Council (YAC) provides a forum
where youth ages 7-12 can become leaders in their
after school recreation program and communities.
YAC members further develop their leadership and
public speaking skills by discussing their opinions in
front of their peers on various topics, and by
representing their peers from their respective sites.
They contribute to the community by raising social
awareness and learn responsibility by volunteering at
city events and service projects.
YAC meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of
each month; September through June. Eleven
recreation centers represented by two members.
Members get to visit every recreation/community
center throughout the city since meetings rotate from
site to site.
YAC Goals:
 Recruit and sustain two to three
representatives from every after school
recreation site
 Participate in two to three service projects a
year; various volunteer opportunities
available.
 To improve the leadership and public
speaking skills of its members
 Inform members of current political and
community issues
 Obtain input/insight from members on after
school and summer programming

bass, drum-set, percussion, and singers. They
perform original arrangements of popular songs
from Latin America to provide its members the
opportunity to experience and share the culture of
Latin America.
The Community Services Department in cooperation
with Camp Fire USA Inland Southern California
Council plays a vital role in improving the quality of
after school programs for youth and teens by providing
free nutritious snacks for low-income communities.
When school is not in session and parents are working,
youth and teens are provided a safe place to be with
their schoolmates along with fun and educationally
structured activities, supportive staff, and nutritious
snacks.
The snack program gives youth and teens the nutrition
they need that they may not receive at home. This also
helps draw them into constructive activities at the After
School Recreation Program sites throughout the City of
Pomona.
Two past members, including a current lead singer,
have received scholarships from very important
colleges, such as Pitzer College and Boston
University College.
The orchestra started in October of 2008; it has
grown from an after school music program, with a
few orchestra members, to a full orchestra. They
have also increased their repertoire, and at the same
time have raised the quality of their performances.
