Page 2 Page 1 Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain MONTHLY MEET AT THE FOX & GOOSE 27TH APRIL The turn out for our monthly meet at the Fox & Goose was extremely good with a total of 15 Ferraris in attendance. A wide range of Tipi were on show in the ample car park from 308‘s to 458 Italia and 2 California’s. As you can see from the pictures they made a spectacular sight. Among the regulars were some new faces, Welcome to Essex Ferrari. Page 2 Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain ‘WHY FERRARI’ I used to be (and still am!) into Fast Fords, having owned a Sierra Cosworth, Mk2 RS2000, Capri 280 and Fiesta/Escort RS Turbo's. Then, back in the early 90's, I was at Palma de Majorca Airport flying home from a cycling camp, when I saw a 1:18 Burago model of an F40. I had no models at that stage, but was captivated by it and had to buy it! My love of Ferrari (and models!) grew from there. Back then, I had no idea that 10 minutes killing time at the airport would be so costly! I now have 100's of models (mainly Ferrari!) and a real version of the car - something I still have trouble coming to terms with! If you had told me back then that I would MIKE KLISKEY eventually own one, I would have called you something rude !!! My best models are red and black Kyosho 1:12 F40's !!. Awesome detail and probably better built than the real thing! I am now on the lookout for a Pocher 1:8 Ferrari F40 - they are BIG!! Page 3 Thanks to Mike for his words and pictures. If you have a ‘Why Ferrari’ story you would like to share, please e-mail it to me along with a few pictures and I will add it to my ever growing archive for publication in a later issue of the newsletter. Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain When Antony and myself attended the Area Group Organisers meeting on 19th March this year, we were fortunate enough to meet new Anglia Area Organiser, Robyn Hood and his wife and they have subsequently sent us this invitation. On reading I am sure you will agree that it sounds like a really nice day out and therefore we would like to muster up as much support from the Essex gang as possible. “If you would like to attend, please let one of us know through the usual channels.” ! Page 6 Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain CLIVEDEN HOUSE MEET PART 1 Stunning 458 Italia Cavallino Rampante (599 GTO) Originally built as a ‘getaway’ retreat from London, Cliveden House is a stunning home set on a hilltop overlooking a stretch of the Thames in Taplow, Berkshire. Visited by Monarchs and politicians during its’ heyday, for the last few years it has been the venue for the annual meeting of ScudItalia and Club Scuderia members. The 376 acres of gardens are landscaped to perfection and are a pleasure to walk around. Our day started at the Marriott Hotel just by the Waltham Abbey turnoff of the M25, as Simon Walker had arranged for a convoy of Ferraris to travel together so myself and Jo duly met with Simon (back in Ferrari ownership – good man!), Rod (in his F40), and Adam (yellow 430). Those of you who frequent the online forums will know Adam as ‘Adzman’ and may have seen him conducting interviews with supercar owners on Fgear. Ferraris on one side and some other lesser brands of cars on the other side. Rod was given a privileged parking spot outside the main entrance to the hotel as can be seen in the photographs. Also in this prestigious car park was a 599 GTO (see picture of the new option of a carbon fibre shield with a silver cavallino rampante), another F40, an Enzo, a Koenigsegg, a Spyker, a California, and a Lamborghini Muira to name but a few. Along the Grand Drive there were a few examples of the new Morgan Aero 8, the metallic red was quite a stunning example (red wins every time for me). Also in attendance were a number of 458 Italias, 360 Challenge Stradales, 456s and 550s. After a subdued drive along the 50mph stretches of the M25 and M40 we headed down a single track lane with enough potholes to test anyones suspension! Upon arrival at Cliveden House we were guided into position down the Grand Drive, Page 7 Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain CLIVEDEN HOUSE MEET! PART 2 Cliveden House is a great day out for any Ferrari enthusiast who enjoys seeing all the different marques literally side by side Over a hundred Ferraris were due to take part, and despite the threat of showers and a stiff breeze blowing across the lawns, I think the organizers enjoyed their best turnout to date. Old friends exchanged greetings and plenty of experiences and views were shared and enjoyed. We gathered on the grassy verge for our picnic lunch and after coffee and scones in the ‘Orangery’ it was time to head home. Koenigsegg Cliveden House still operates as a rather exclusive hotel and throughout the day there was a steady stream of top-ofthe-range Mercs, BMWs, Range Rovers etc arriving and leaving with guests. Despite not being an official Ferrari event, Cliveden House is a great day out for any Ferrari enthusiast who enjoys seeing all the different marques literally side by side. We took a slightly different route home, leading to a 6’ 6” width restriction, which for most of us means asking the passenger to guide us through as there isn’t much space in a gap that big! I had to take a little detour on the way home as the 50mph sections of the motorway became too much to bear, but I won’t tell you where I went or how fast!! Just in case you were wondering what tipo it is........ Seventeen Ferraris graced the special parking area for our early summer lunch at Woolston Manor, Epping. The event proved very popular with 49 Essex faithful in attendance including no fewer than 7 children! The owners of the Manor had allowed us to display our cars in an area around the entrance to the building which was also precariously close to the 18th green of the Manors golf course. Fortunately, no-one suffered from a stray golf ball bouncing off their highly polished paintwork! In fact, the only golf balls making their way into the parking area were those that were safely tucked away in the golf bags of the golfers who came in to take a closer look at the cars. PART 1 456; Testarossa; 308GT4; 360 Modena; Mondial T; F40; 355 Berlinetta; 575 and 328 GTS. A credit to their owners that they were all turned out to a high standard, well done. After a pleasant lunch Antony, Simon and Steve ventured out to conduct the very informal concours. Fortunately for everyone else, both Simon’s 355 Spyder and Steve’s 308 GT4 were banned from the competition in the name of fairness. The tipi on show were as follows, 2 x 355 Spider; 2 x Dino; 2 x 360 Challenge Stradale; 2 x 308 GTS; Page 10 Fortunately, no-one suffered from a stray golf ball bouncing off their highly polished paintwork! Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain WOOLSTON MANOR! PART 2 We had hoped to do the presentation on the verandah that overlooks the Manors swimming pool and golf course beyond but it was decided that we would remain in the dining room in order to keep everyone together. Antony started by thanking everyone for turning out to make the event so successful, then thanked your scribe for his work on producing the newsletter. We then moved on to the informal concours with special mentions going to Gary Atkins for his very well presented 308 GTS which has covered quite a few miles and is ‘driven properly’ for most of those miles. Gary uses the car for track days and it is a credit to him that it still looks so fresh. report that he was really rather pleased! Well done, Satnam. James Tetherton’s Mondial T Finally, Antony has been returning boxes from storage to his (almost) finished home and whilst on one of his latest trips he stumbled across a box with the words ‘Essex Ferrari’ written on it. Intrigued, he opened the box to find 18 Essex Ferrari 25th Anniversary mugs, and so everyone who turned up in a Ferrari received their own commemorative mug. This was a treat of a meeting for all those that attended and shows that the old Essex Ferrari spirit is alive and kicking. Gary Atkins 308 GTS James and Susan Tetherton also got a mention for their very nice blue chiaro Mondial T which, in my humble opinion, is THE colour for this tipo. But, there has to be one winner, and the spoils on this occasion went to Satnam Heer for his beautifully prepared 360 Challenge Stradale, this really is a stunning example. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get a picture of Satnam with his award but I can Page 11 Satnam Heer’s 360 CS Newsletter of the Essex Area of The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain ESSEX FERRARI June 2011 Calendar of Events Antony Shine 07973 377456 [email protected] Simon Walker 07767 822258 [email protected] Issue: 277 June 4 Breakfast club, The Hare, Roxwell 5 AutoItalia, Stanford Hall, Leics 11/12 Le Mans 12 Bromley Pageant 15 Snetterton track day 18 Kent Summer Ball * 19 Hedingham Castle * 21 Summer Solstice meet, The Hare, Roxwell * 26 Porsche Club BBQ,, Stow Marie’s Aerodrome * July 2 Breakfast Club, The Hare, Roxwell 2/3 Goodwood Festival of Speed 3 FOC Presscott Hillclimb 10 Chiltern-Hunt picnic * 12 Brands Hatch track day 17 Cressing Temple Car & Motorcycle Show ** 20 Elveden Italian Day (Anglia Region) 22/23/24 FOC Silverstone Classic 27 Monthly meeting, Fox & Goose, Writtle 29 Lavenham Press Rare Breeds Motor Show ** Steve Target 07944 690723 [email protected] * Please let us know if you wish to attend ** Please e-mail Antony for an entry form if you wish to display your car The views contained in letters & articles in this newsletter are not necessarily those of the editors or of the Ferrari Owners Club.
