holders' rights; legally, you have every right to make alterations to
your films. We do believe, however, that as the steward of one of the
most recognizable and beloved film series of all time, you have a
responsibility to restore and preserve Star Wars in its original form,
unaltered, and make it accessible to fans in a quality equal to that of
the Special Edition.
Speculation runs rampant as to the availability of suitable elements for

Assuming adequate source materials do exist, our goal is to convince
you that providing home video releases of the original theatrical cuts
and the Special Editions in the best quality possible need not be an
either/or proposition. Both versions can coexist without one detracting
from the other. Ridley Scott supervised a definitive release of Blade

Outstanding Blu-ray releases like those for Blade Runner and Close
Encounters of the Third Kind prove there can be a balance among
creators' rights, film preservation, and fan service. The original Star
Wars trilogy deserves the same treatment.
To clarify our request:
1) We ask that the theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy be
restored from the best elements available using modern methods and
technology.
2) When you decide to release the Star Wars saga on Blu-ray or any
future format, we ask that the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy,
with high definition transfers struck from the newly restored elements,
be included alongside your most recent version.
We thank you for giving us Star Wars, and for your attention in this
matter.
Regards,

I dearly hope that Lucasfilm takes this
opportunity to restore it's previous good name
for always striving to release the highest quality
products possible. The much-loved, influential,
pre-Special Edition Star Wars trilogy deserves
nothing less than a fully-anamorphic release to
your highest standards possible this time.

I saw the original unaltered versions of these
films dozens of times in the cinema when I was
a kid, it is ridiculous that now all these years
later that they are unavailable in the highest
quality to the public who made Mr. Lucas the
multi-milionaire he is today.
Please, for future generations (and TVs), let us
have the versions I grew up with so my kids can
see what I thought was so special.
One day I'd like to show to my futur kid(s) the
SAME movie I saw and loved.
Thanks Mr Lucas.

While I am signing this request for a best
possible release of the original theatrical
editions of the Original Star Wars trilogy on
Blu-Ray. I still wish request the same degree of
restoration for a DVD release as well.
The current DVD release was very long coming
and ultimately disappointing. The general
quality control on the release of both the
original theatrical versions and the special
edition release undermined the trust in both
Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox of many people
who purchased those sets.
The Star Wars films are major cultural artifacts
and should be presented in the best way
possible.
They have rightfully earned their place in
cinema history and when the public want to pay
money to purchase them they should be able to
buy the highest quality presentation.

Star Wars is an icon of pop culture that changed
entertainment media, merchandising, and
literally generations of people. It deserves to be
historically preserved and archived in the
highest quality. Fans WANT the original
versions. Not to replace your definitive version,
but to complement it! Who doesn't like to see
early drafts of art or writing? It is an insight into
the creative process. PLEASE do not let the
versions first released to the public disappear
into obscurity!
For me to purchase another release of the
Original "Star Wars" Trilogy in home video
format, the original unaltered editions must be
included and properly restored. I believe there
is no reason not to include a restored trilogy
alongside a "Special Edition" release becuase,
as stated, other directors have already done so
with their respective films.
Also, because of the Original "Star Wars"
Trilogy's impact on both film and culture, I
strongly believe not restoring the orginal films
soon would be hugely irresponsible and, as a
result, would deny future generations the
opportunity of experiencing the flims as others
who saw them for the first time when the films
were originally released.
Thank you.

Althought i am pretty satisfied with the dvds i
own now (except for the blue hue and the
ending of Episode 6) and have not seen the
'official original' or even the '97 version, i do
have something to say.
I would be pretty pissed off if i saw the original i
saw as a kid, be transformed in something
completely different. I can relate with people
who experienced something like this.
So please Lucasfilm / Mister Lucas, restore the
original in a good quality, not in a quality like on
the 2006 bonus dvd.

Mr. Lucas, Let me be clear: I have given you a
lot of cash over the years. Yet your refusal to
care for these films in the manner that they
deserve is not only disrespectful of history, it's
disrespectful of the hard work I performed in
order to earn the money that I then spent on
your films and DVDs. Inclusion of the unaltered
original trilogy films in HI-DEF QUALITY is the
ONLY way I will purchase the Blu-Ray versions
of these films. If they're not included, I will
spend my money elsewhere.

special edition, similar to the Blade Runner
release or the E.T. DVD release from a few
years ago.

I like my Star Wars without CGI. I prefer not to
buy anymore Star Wars transfers unless there's

The original "Star Wars" trilogy is a cultural
landmark. For twenty years they kept kids and
adults imagining and entertained. Revising and
updating one's work of art is fine to a point, but
it shouldn't be done to replace or withdraw the
entities everyone grew up on and pretend that
they didn't exist. To use an example of another
form of art, the entire Beatles catalog was
recently remastered from the original elements,
and they were released in both stereo and mono
because they knew that many people enjoyed
the more-primative sounding mono versions for
what they were. The original cuts of the "Star
Wars" films were the ones that made them
endearing and historical, and they deserve to be
treated and released with as much as given to
the special editions...clean them up, remaster
them in anamorphic widescreen, strike new
digital prints. Let the fans decide which version
they want to own on Blu-ray.
Mr. Lucas,
This would be a nice bonus to have the
unaltered '77,'80, & '83 versions on Blu. Along
side the Prequels and Special Edition trilogies.

Some of my fondest memories from my
childhood involve these films. I've passed Star
Wars "fever" to my younger brother, and my
children. Although I enjoy the Special Editions
as well, some of the features removed or
altered from the originals happen to be what I
remember most from the films. Please give us

I would like to see a Blu-Ray special of all
versions of Star Wars films from the original to
the the 2nd and third update for Blu-Ray and
ALL VERSIONS should get the special treatment.
As much as I have been lenient towards every
re-issue of the Star Wars films and (at times
reluctantly) supportive of the prequel films and
shows - it is essential to moviedom entirely,
that the Original Trilogy be preserved and
included on for the Blu-ray format in all of its
restored HD glory. Vital for future generations
to realise HOW Star Wars initially came to us in
1977 and beyond :-)
The original trilogy on bluray would be great to
own. I'd like to see lucasfilm create a seamless
branching version with all versions of each film.
So say we all.
Please, when u decide to put Star Wars on
blu-ray, put the original version on the disc as
well as the special editions. Thanks

I remember watching Star Wars in the theater

I personally prefer the special editions, but I
would like the chance to watch the original
theatrical versions as nostalgia for when I was a
child and also to be able to properly compare
the two versions. I think that because so many
fans prefer the original theatrical versions, and
that Star Wars wouldn't have come this far
without the support of its, they should be given

years.

I want the originals!!!
Do whatever you want to the films, as long as
you also preserve the original versions in the
highest possible quality.
I don't want to have a bad feeling about this...
originals, please...
Mr Lucas
Since I was born in 1990 I have been more
drawn to your Special Edition versions of the
Star Wars trilogy and the prequel trilogy - and
they were amazing.
I think that the original versions should be fully
re-mastered and be presented in the same
aspect ratio as the newer edits. These can be
looked back on and admired by film fans and
historians in the future and it shows respect for
the films when they were made. I agree that
the definite versions are the new edits, but I
still think that the old versions should be
showcased. A lot of people, including yourself,
had worked so hard to get them completed for
the years that they were released in and they
are the crowning jewels of the decades that
they were a part of - the 70s and 80s.
Thank You Sir

used for restoration in "Special Edition" back in
1997. I hope, at least, to see the theatrical
version of Episode ? in blu-ray format.

Sometimes, it's just not worth it to see Han

Star Wars is a part of our culture. Although our
culture is continually changing, it's history
should not. I applaud the effort to improve the
Star Wars universe as new technology is
available, but just because something new
comes along does not mean we should throw
away how we got there. Please allow us to not

Full-HD version.
Thank You!
Anamorphic video, multiple lossless audio tracks
including 2 channel stereo, do not use DNR or
EE on video, use correct audio for back channels
(they are reversed on SE DVDs), do not correct
any errors except lightsabers and boxes around
tie-fighters, everything else should match the
theatrical versions.
Mr. Lucas, without the original theatrical
versions of the Star Wars trilogy, you wouldn't
have been able to build your very own empire

The original theatrical versions of the Star Wars
movies deserve to be preserved in the highest
possible standard. A full restoration of the films
presented on blu-ray is long overdue and a
release containing all the alternate versions
(from the 1977 mono mix of Star Wars and the
70mm cut of Empire Strikes Back to the 1997
Special Editions and the 2004 DVD versions)
would be a fitting celebration of the Star Wars
saga.

years. You can't just sweep that under the rug.
While you might not have been 100% satisfied
with the finished product at the time, that is the
film that (in its original, unpolished form)
inspired the imaginations of an entire world and
changed filmmaking. It deserves to be archived
as it was-if only for its place in the history of
cinema.
Words can not express how badly I want to see
the original Trilogy in it's theatrical form make it
to Blu Ray, just as Blade Runner has. I love all
versions of Blade Runner, and really would love
to have the same set up with Star Wars so I can
view any particular version at any time.
And don't worry: I'd buy both versions on
Blu-ray.

I can understand your want to have gone back
and expand on your original versions of the
Trilogy to complete your original vision. This
petition is just to let you know our original
vision is what we saw for the first time in
theaters. This is what we know and love and
would much appreciate these versions in HD.
Knowing most of us Star Wars fans, we will end
up buying both the special editions and the
originals. It would just be great to have both
versions to compare and contrast. Thanks for
giving us these great stories.

Despite the Special Editions being the Original
Trilogy for most of my life, the first time I saw
Star Wars was on a recorded-from-tv tape my
parents had recorded of the original versions of
the trilogy. They hold a special place in my
heart, and deserve respect for setting up
everything Lucasfilm is today. Don't have the
original versions be "bonus features", feature
them right alongside the Special Editions in
brilliant anamorphic high-definition quality.

Original, un-altered trilogy on Blu-ray, Dolby
TrueHD 7.1, please! Re-mastered, 1080p (8K
scan) please!
I have purchased EVERY single relase of Star
Wars on every vidoe format its been available,
so I will also buy it on Blu-ray, once it is
released. But, I would LOVE to be able to show
my kids the Star Wars I was exposed to, back in
1977, in the best format possible. PLEASE
release the originals.
I would most definitely like to see the theatrical
cuts of the original trilogy in High Def.
I want to show my children the movies I grew
up with. I was born in the summer of the
original Star Wars release. And, having older
siblings who showed me the films, Star Wars
has been with me since birth.
Empire Strikes Back was the first film I saw in
the theater for my third birthday. Please keep
the originals alive for the next generation.

Do the right thing George! Preserve film history!
These are three of the greatest works of
entertainment in motion picture history. They
deserve to be seen on Blu-ray as they were
originally released in theaters, and to deny
them that would be to blatantly ignore a hugely
significant chunk of cinematic history.
I absolutely love Star Wars and have for 32
years. I loved the originals, I adore the newest
version, but please, please, please remove
Hayden Christenson from the end of Return of
the Jedi. His presence in place of Sebastian
Shaw kills it for me. Oh and no amount of
tinkering will improve on the original
Han/Greedo confrontation. If you are to tinker
further for the Blu Ray release, please take this
into consideration. Thanks.
The original trilogy deserves a perfect blu-ray
transfer!
The STAR WARS films are among the most
important and culturally relevant movies ever
made, and they deserve to be preserved in their
original form.
It would be a crime against film history to see
the films eventually fade away and be entirely
supplanted by the revised versions.

I believe it is essential that scholars such as
myself (social sciences) have all versions to
examine: differences in dialogue, new ideas of
what is considered appropriate set dressing,
scenery design and special effects so that we
can begin to understand how the years have
changed the nature of how film makers view
their craft and how audiences react to same.

I don't need CGI in my Star Wars movies.
Please !
Please restore the theatrical cuts of the original
Star Wars trilogy in HD picture and sound and
include them on ANY Blu-Ray release of the Star
Wars trilogy. Refusing to include the theatrical
cuts would be an insult to generations of loyal
Star Wars fans!
As good as the enhancements might be, I'd like
to see the Trilogy as I first saw it in the
theaters.
Please release these together and as soon as
possible!!!
I will never buy the new edits on BLurRay
I will not buy any of the original trilogy unless it
is the version first released into theaters.

Star Wars deserves to be treated by modern
technology to enhance the shortcomings of film
technology at the time, but not to the extent
that the content is manipulated. Digital
enhancement in this case should be more about
historical preservation and appreciation in film
more than it is about improving a movie.

Saw the "special edition" of Jedi on TV the other
day and it just reminded me how I felt back in
the cinema in 1997, hating every single one of
the pathetic, redundant, senseless changes that
were made to all three films. I'm too young to
have ever seen the original films in the cinema.
No offense, but George Lucas, as wonderful as
he is, is and has ruined the most wonderful
dynasty in film ever created by releasing the
newer Star Wars films and animated series.
Please do not allow him to further degrade
these masterpieces by not releasing the original
films to Blue Ray as they were when they first
came out.

The closest I can get is to re-create that
experience in my home. Please, please, please,
will someone provide us with a definitive dvd to
do this?!! I don't believe any of the technical
excuses spouted by Lucas film. The only
stumbling block I can see is stubbornness and a
bizarre inability by Mr Lucas to seemingly
understand why his own original creation
worked so well. Don't worry about it George trust us! use the force, make the fracking dvds,

It makes complete and perfect sense for films
allocated such a prominent position in the
medium's history, to actually BE available
(which, in their original, initially incepted forms
- that is, the condition which actually brought
about such cultural preeminence - they are
NOT).
I have money over here ready for you. Just
make it happen.
Even though I never originally saw the OUT, I
would love to see a fully remastered edition of
the theatrical cut in an anomorphic display.
I'll even pay for all 6 films on blu-ray if you can
create this definative Star Wars Blu-Ray release.
It was the primary, unaltered versions of the
Star Wars films which allowed for the social
absorption that has resulted in the enormous
success of the Star Wars films and the wider
franchise of Star Wars books, games, toys, TV
shows, etc.
Thus, through the non-release of these editions,
it seems that a great perversion has occured,
and an enormous disrespect has been made. I
hope that this can be rectified.

The original trilogy is lovingly handcrafted
popular movie art. The Special Editions are
sheer vandalism-- and not the good kind, not
graffiti or street art, just defacement,
diminishment of the originals.
I have been a big fan of the original Star Wars
trilogy since I was 4 years old, when I saw
Empire Strikes Back (the first of the three that I
saw). These movies are beloved by many
people. I enjoyed elements of the Special
Edition, like the cleaned up special effects and
the enhanced sound, but there were things that
detracted from the movie, like making Greedo
shoot first, having Han walk on Jabba, and
having Hayden Christensen be Anakin
redeemed. The first two things were basically
changing characters (changing Han, to be less,
well, scum-ish, and making Jabba someone that
people can just walk all over, pun intended), but
the third just bothered me a little.
Thank you for listening to me rant!

The original Star Wars film and its two sequels
were completely awesome and way ahead of
their time. It was fun to see the changes in the
special editions, but the changes seem to be
mostly a distraction that don't really add
anything to the story. The original Star Wars
trilogy is a classic and it should be preserved. I
only wish the new trilogy kept the same look
and feel to it. Everything is too smooth and new
looking and looks like a modern day video
game. Thank you for completing them
regardless! :-)

The original version of the Star Wars trilogy is a
part of my childhood. I would love to relive it in
HD on Blu-ray... rather than have the recut
versions. That 'new' experience took away from
Star Wars, it didn't add anything but frustration
for me.
I find it very sad that there is only the Special
Edition (SE) from 2004 supposed to last. This
causes much controversy among fans,
especially between those who grew up with the
unaltered version (like me) and mostly younger
fans who like the SEs better. Therefore, I
strongly support the proposal of providing all
existing versions of the Original Trilogy (OT) on
future Bluray (or other) publications and make
an end to the infinite discussion about the
definitive edition of the OT.
George, please think of all the fine, pioneering
work in film-making arts and sciences which you
and your amazingly talented team were
responsible for and which thrilled audiences for
so many years. Don't let them die off. Thanks
for listening to us.
Bring back the real Star Wars!

Bring back the real Star Wars!
LucasFilm - I've been a fan of Star Wars since
the day I saw it in 1977. Please recognize that
the 'old school' fans who have supported you
since opening day want the classic UNALTERED
versions of these films. Refusing to do so not
only DOESN"T make sense financially, but it
also feels like a slap in the face to those who
truly recognize the originals as the masterpieces
they truly are. Thank you. Rick Johnson
Please, please, please George. All I want for
Christmas is the REAL Star Wars trilogy on dvd.
I cant stand the "special edition" nonsense. I
DO NOT want to see Jabba in A New Hope
anymore, and I don't want to watch some cgi
animated scene at Jabba's palace. Pretty
Please?
I agree, I want the original 'Star Wars' (NO
'New Hope'), 'The Empire Strikes Back' and
'Return Of The Jedi' digitally re-mastered (and
restored, if necessary) from the best quality
35mm prints available, with 7.1 True HD sound,
director/actor commentaries (INCLUDING
Harrison Ford) and HOURS of supplimental
material.
I would like very much to own these on Blu-ray.
While I may not be a huge fan of the Special
Editions, I do believe the two can coexist
without one detracting from the other.
Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, your my only hope
Please release the original theatrical release in a
restored state. It is a fantastic movie and should
be see how it originally was. Also, maybe a dvd
release would work for those without blu-ray.
Thank You

This needs to happen! All fans kept Star Wars
alive after Return of the Jedi was finished for
years waiting patiently that a prequel trilogy
would be made, and it was. These are the
movies families grew up on, and isnt that why
you left movies for awhile? To raise your family?
Without fans loving your movies, Star Wars
wouldnt be the Star Wars that it is today. We
are owed this simple request and are tired of
being slapped in the face. These are our movies
as much as they are yours. Sincerely, Robert P

Down with CGI Jabba !
Mr LucasAs steward of "Star Wars", you would make an
immense amount of people extremely happy
were you to release in acceptable quality the
original version of your films - flaws and all - on
DVD, Bluray, and whatever format may succeed
them.
The fact is, the original pictures are a cultural
icon that everyone should be able to partake in.
Their success is what enabled you to become an
extraordinarily successful independent
filmmaker, and you owe it to the next
generation of moviegoers to allow them the
chance to see your movies as they were without
having to resort to seeking out obscure websites
or paying exorbitant sums to hunt down
LaserDiscs, or eventually, the 'limited edition'
DVDs released in 2006.
Ultimately, as a person dedicated to film
preservation and as a maverick outsider to the
studio system, the person you owe a real
release of the original, unaltered trilogy the
most is - you.
Respectfully yours,

I saw "Empire" in the theater (I was only 3) and
it scared the hell of me. That experience has
always stayed with me. Fairy tales used to
frighten children (and they were meant to).
Nothing would make me happier than a hi-def

Hayden has no place in Jedi!
James Cameron has released "T2" on DVD 3
times and 2 times on Blu-ray Disc. Each version
was a little more "tweaked" than the last (but
the original version was always included). We
bought all of those, too.
We (the "Fans") would gladly purchase every
new "enhanced" version of your films on endless
formats (with new scenes and better
audio/video quality) without complaint as long
as the orginal versions were included (restored
and in the best possible quality).
Please release your original movies on Blu-ray
with the best possible picture and sound
("1080p" and "DTS-HD Master Audio"). We will
buy them.

Please, with all due consideration, release the
Original Theatrical cuts within the release of any
subsequent future Blu-Ray offering (i.e. Blade
Runner, Close Encounters ect.)
Please release these original versions alongside
a new special edition on Blu-ray. These would
be greatly appreciated, I have never even seen
the proper original versions and it would
absolutely make my 2010 to have these in
high-def to watch over and over.
Give us both the orginal and special edition
verisons of Star Wars episodes IV-VI on Blu-ray
in 1080p and I'll be very satisfied.
The ORIGINAL theatrical versions on the ones
that made an impact on our culture and helped
changed the face of movies. For that, they
should be preserved on home video rather than
being "rewritten" by only allowing the alteredyears-later versions available.
Preserve film history and put the original
versions (properly restored too!) on Blu-ray!
This would be fantastic! Please give back to the
fans that's have made Star Wars what it is
today!
Please, don't erase such wonderful memory
from my childhood. Give us the Theatrical Cuts!

one of my earliest memories is of watching A
New Hope. I will never forget the wonder and
joy of seeing Luke blow the Death Star into
smithereens. These films changed my life, and
they did it all without the ridiculous over-CGId
filler. Give me the terrible effects and the
obvious models. They were cutting edge for the
time. Some things look better when touched up
a bit, but changing an entire sequence for the
sake of showing off how good your CGI
department is will not add anything to the story.
Constantly re-doing something for the sake of
re-doing it is not progress; it is beating a dead
horse. Let the trilogy stand for itself, and stop
with the ridiculous distractions.

I would really like to enjoy Star Wars as I knew
it when I was a kid, without all the forced CGI
additions and inexplicably altered dialog (such
as "it's all right I can see a lot better now!").
The originals were perfect the way they were!
Plus to fans best rememberances about of the
classic trilogy the original films were a big hit in
cinema history and must be preserver in their
original form, just how every other great film.

have powerful nostalgia for people like myself.
Release the orginal Trilogy on blu-ray!!
