new year, a new
season and a new
issue of “Boca Piquant,”
your guide to local country club
living.
In each issue we explore a local
country club community, giving
you an opportunity to experience
club amenities, meet the people
who live there, and decide for
yourself what makes a club
special.
BOCA WOODS
MICKIE AND SUZANNE
On the following pages, we take
a look at Boca Woods Country
Club in western Boca Raton, one
of our area’s most established
clubs. We find out why so many
people call Boca Woods home,
and what programs and activities
keep everyone there so busy.
Join us as we explore the
club’s golf courses, tennis courts,
fitness center and newly updated
clubhouse, stopping to enjoy the
friendly competition in the air,
on the golf courses, at the tennis
courts and in the card rooms.
We also visit top a few
boutiques in our area to learn
what’s fun and fabulous, and then
refuel and recharge at two popular
restaurants.
Inside, we list some of
the premier local country
club communities. For more
information about each club, visit
specific Web sites or call the clubs.
This list is not all-inclusive, but
it’s growing as you tell us who and
what you want to see in future
issues of “Boca Piquant.”

OPEN TEE TIMES, FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE
ARE MAIN ATTRACTIONS AT BOCA WOODS
BY MAURA MARTIN

oca Woods Country
Club is home to all
that is synonymous
with country club
living: immaculate landscaping, a
stately clubhouse, two sprawling
golf courses, tennis, fine dining,
fitness center, gated entrance, 24hour security and valet parking.
Although the lifestyle is
undeniably busy, even a visitor
taking a quick walk in the 600acre community in western Boca
is sure to draw smiles, waves and
greetings from members, who
instinctively stop what they’re
doing to extend a welcome.
Friendliness and concern are
amenities of another sort at Boca
Woods.
“The people are great, the best
thing about this club,” said Tom
Fontana, who has called Boca
Woods home for nine years.
“The day I walked in, people
walked over to me, introduced
LINDSAY MOORE
themselves, and said, ‘Want to
play golf?’ ”
And golf, like camaraderie,
defines this small private club,
which is just south of Glades
Road off U.S. 441. The club’s two
championship golf courses – the
Joe Lee-designed Woods Course
and the Karl Litten-designed
Lakes Course – offer 36 holes
of spectacular golfing for all skill
levels.
Of the 600 people living
at Boca Woods, 530 are golf
members. That number translates
to low density on the courses.
“When you spread that over
two golf courses, that’s nothing,”
Club President Alan Platner said.
“People are able to play any time
they want to play. We don’t stand
in line to play golf; we don’t have
to wait days for a tee time.”
The same is true of tennis at
Boca Woods. “You don’t have to
wait to play tennis either,” said
Fontana, who is chairman of the
club’s Men’s Golf Association. “If
I want to play right now, I just go.”
While many clubs report a drop
in the number of members playing
tennis, Boca Woods’ tennis program is expanding. Former Australian tennis pro Geoff Moore
recently joined the club as tennis
director, and the club’s eight HarTru courts were replaced.
“They’re fabulous,” said
Fontana, a seasoned tennis player
from New Jersey. “I just played on
them. It’s better playing on soft
courts than hard.”
Boca Woods traces its roots
to the early 1980s, when The
Kennedy Group of Chicago built
most of the homes there. Club
members, who hail from across
the country and represent various
age groups, live in one of 645
single-family homes, most with
pools. The homes, which range
in price from $300,000 to $1
million, all offer either lake or
golf course views.
People join Boca Woods as golf
members – a golf membership
is $11,998 annually; social
memberships no longer are
offered – and about 70 percent
are year-round residents.
The club’s newly refurbished
clubhouse is home to a dining
room and lounge, fitness center
with new equipment and trainers,
and spacious men’s and women’s
card rooms, locker rooms, and a
pro shop. The airy Cabana Grille
offers casual breakfast and lunch
and overlooks the club’s Olympicsize pool, which is the site of
aquatics classes.
Boca Woods Country Club is at
10471 Boca Woods Lane, on the
west side of U.S. 441 one-half
mile south of Glades Road.

of the work took place last summer

Simes oversaw the refurbishment, hiring renowned interior designer Cecil Hayes to transform the
clubhouse into a captivating mix
of contemporary and traditional,
with neutral walls and ceilings and
wooden beams running across ceilings and up and down walls.
Hayes used wood on walls to
create texture, added colorful
artwork and intimate lighting,
and invited nature inside via huge
windows and potted plants.
The project required careful
planning and the cooperation of
club members.

fter its recent
facelift, the
clubhouse at Boca
Woods Country Club
emerged refreshed and ready to
meet the needs of the club’s active
members.
The clubhouse is home to a
lounge and 350-seat dining room,
a state-of-the-art fitness center,
men’s and women’s card rooms,
and full-service locker rooms.
Its million-dollar refurbishment
resulted in new furniture, wall
coverings, carpeting, flooring,
window treatments, and artwork
throughout the building, plus
an expanded fitness center with
modern equipment.
The result is an inviting environment for socializing and recreation.
“We wanted to update the look of
the clubhouse,” said Natalie Simes,
chairwoman of the House Committee and a member of the Boca
the flexibility of hundreds of card
players.
“For one month, one card room
was transformed to co-ed,” Simes
said. “In July, we put down flooring,
so we set up card tables in the men’s
locker room with attendants. Then
we moved the ladies to a room in
the fitness center.”
While the dining room was
closed, the Cabana Grille opened
daily for breakfast and lunch and
four nights a week for dinner.
Most of the work was completed
by October, Simes said.
The improvements extended to
the locker rooms and the men’s
and women’s card rooms, in which
lively games of bridge, gin rummy,
pinochle, poker, pan, canasta and
mah jong take place most days of
the week.
The spacious dining room, which
serves casual lunches, dinners and
buffets, and is the site for many
club activities, also was freshened.
The dining room’s large windows
offer diners stunning golf course
and lake views.

The fitness center received new
strength and cardio equipment.
Club members can choose from
about two dozen aerobics classes
including balance, dance, yoga,
Pilates and water aerobics, and
work with the club’s certified
personal trainer and massage
therapists.
“This is a very homey club with
a strong sense of community,”
said Simes, who moved to Boca
Woods from Long Island 17
years ago. “There’s everything you
could want here.”

Dear Marty, Mickie & Suzanne,
On behalf of the Polo Club of Boca Raton’s Board of Governors, Members and Staff,
I would like to thank your Boca Piquant team for featuring our fantastic Club in your
November edition.
I believe the Boca Piquant issue provided your readers with a good overview of Polo’s
outstanding facilities and lifestyle that make Polo such a special place to live.
This is one of the most effective, positive marketing pieces we have seen in quite some
time and certainly epitomizes the “Experience the Art of Living” lifestyle within the
gates of Polo.
Again, thank you for such an impressive issue.
Sincerely,

GM MCGAUGHEY INTRODUCES NEW
IDEAS TO BOCA WOODS’ MEMBERSHIP
BY MAURA MARTIN
SANDY MCGAUGHEY

andy McGaughey,
general manager
and chief operating
officer at Boca Woods
Country Club, has been
injecting the club with energy,
enthusiasm and new ideas since he
arrived last fall.
“We keep stirring the stick and
improving programs,” he said.
For example McGaughey, a wine
enthusiast, overhauled Boca Woods’
wine program, organized four soldout wine events and is planning
additional events.
Dining numbers at the club are
up, he said. Members are excited
about Tuesday Buffets, Pub Nights,
Thursday Night in the Cabana
Grille, Sunset Hors d’oeuvres, and
other weekly dining events.
McGaughey joined Boca Woods
from the Lost Tree Club in North
Palm Beach, where he was general
manager and chief operating
officer. He knows South Florida’s
competitive private country club
market.
“This club is the best value in the
neighborhood,” he said. “From July
to Christmas [of 2009], we were
selling one home every one-and-ahalf weeks.”
McGaughey wants to see Boca
Woods recognized as a premium
club. “We have great facilities,
sound management and a great
lifestyle,” he says.
“Sandy has good experience and
a long tenure at clubs we had a high
regard for,” said Club President
Alan Platner. “We knew he was the
right person with the right ideas
and personality.”
Before moving to Florida,
McGaughey was general manager
at Westwood Country Club and
Greenbriar Hills Country Club,
both in St. Louis. He honed his
customer service and food and
beverage skills as a crew leader
for Amtrak on an overnight
Washington, D.C.-to-Montreal
train, and then as an account
executive with a St. Louis-based
food service management company.
While working toward the Master
Club Manager (MCM) designation
from the Club Managers
Association of America in 2004,
McGaughey wrote, “Creating
the Private Club Wine List,” a
comprehensive guide for club
managers who are developing wine
lists at private clubs.
Wine is his hobby, and he is
putting his expertise to use at Boca
Woods.
“Sandy has a lot of great ideas,”
said Natalie Simes, board member
and chairwoman of the Boca Woods
House Committee. “He started
a wine club and he’s doing a lot
more.”
“I feel like I’m working with the
best leadership team here,” he said.
“No one has a personal agenda. It’s
a good, supportive team.”
During season, 150 employees
report to him.
The Wabash College graduate
also earned the certified chief
executive (CCE) and community
association manager (CAM)
designations.
McGaughey is a member of the
President’s Council and the Club
Managers Association of America,
and past president of the International CMAA Wine Society.
The father of two teenagers lives
in West Palm Beach. He fishes,
golfs, swims and plays tennis.

BOCA WOODS PRESIDENT LOOKS
AHEAD TO KEEP CLUB AT THE TOP
ALAN PLATNER
oca Woods Country
Club President Alan
Platner keeps his eye
on the bottom line
while looking ahead to keep pace
with technology.
It’s a delicate balancing act that
Platner seems to have mastered.
“You change things as technology
changes,” he says.
Platner kept careful watch over
last year’s $1 million clubhouse
refurbishment (the clubhouse was
renovated about 10 years ago)
and this year’s replacement of the
tennis courts’ Har-Tru clay and
installation of drainage systems.
As a result, “We did this all at no
extra cost to members,” he said. “We
had no member assessments.”
“We are solid financially,” Platner
said with pride.
He and the club’s 15-member
board oversaw last year’s recruiting
and hiring of Sandy McGaughey
as general manager and chief
operating officer.
And in 2007, Platner said he
realized that installation of a fiberoptic network throughout the club
would be cost effective and result in
richer programming for members.
He oversaw the transition to
Hotwire Communications, a fiber
optic telecommunications provider
specializing in multi-family
communities that provides both
high-speed Internet capabilities and
digital television.
Platner said board members
discovered the Pennsylvania-based
company during months of intense
research into providers.
“We were the guinea pig for the
rest of the gated communities,”
McGaughey said. “Alan showed a
lot of vision and courage.”
Platner works in mergers and
acquisitions and in joint ventures.
He was in the home furnishings
industry, serving as president of
several large companies.
“When you consider the cost of
acquisition, entry and living here,
and consider that are amenities are
close to or equal to the top clubs,
this is absolutely high value,” he
said.
Platner can be found on the golf
course three times a week.
“If you live here you need to want
to play golf or tennis,” he said. “Our
facilities are gorgeous and we have
low density.”
Platner and his wife moved to
Boca Woods from Atlanta 10 years
ago. They didn’t know anyone
at the club but they got a warm
feeling when visiting. They liked
the facilities and the camaraderie
among members.
“This feels like home. It feels
like a comfortable pair of shoes,”
Platner said.
McGaughey calls Platner a true
leader. “He maintains a vision
for excellence, builds consensus
among his constituents, allows
his professionals to do their jobs
without micro-management, and
shows appropriate concern and
compassion,” McGaughey said.
“I have served over 20 presidents;
he will be among the very best.”

Club members look forward
to December’s annual Junior
Olympics, which is organized by
the Women’s Club. Children and
grandchildren of club members
have fun during a half-day of
activities at the club, including
tennis, clowns, art and crafts,
face painting, a bounce house and
barbecue lunch.
“While everyone’s enjoying their
summer, I’m getting contracts
for the next year,” Wolff said,
laughing. “I’m running around like
crazy.”
Wolff, like many Boca Woods
members, also is active in the Boca
Raton community. She volunteers
at the Florida Humane Society
and at Lynn Regional Cancer
Center at Boca Raton Community
Hospital.
For singles looking for
entertainment without having to
drive, the Boca Woods Singles
Club offers various activities and
sponsors a monthly Movie Night,
at which members enjoy Sunday
films ranging from the “The Little
Foxes” to “Some Like It Hot.”
Bridge players of all levels can
show off their skills or play to
learn at duplicate bridge games,
organized at Boca Woods every
Tuesday night in the clubhouse.

BOCA WOODS OFFERS GOLFERS
DIVERSITY AND CHALLENGE
BY TRACY FANTACCIONE
Its two 18-hole
golf courses flow
through the West
Boca community
offering players just the
right amount of challenge.
Lushly landscaped, they have
been played on for more than
20 years.
The Woods course, designed
by legendary architect Joe Lee,
and the Lakes course, designed
by golf course architect Karl
Litten, are different but equally
challenging. Golfers at all skill
levels can enjoy play on either
course.
Each of Boca Woods’ 645
homes has a view of one of the
courses, where elevated tees and
wide green fairways provide
scenic views of natural plants
and trees, as well as wildlife.
“The key to this club is golf.
This is a private residential
golf club,” said Boca Woods
President Alan Platner.
The fact that the club’s
golf membership is capped at
530 means these courses are
never overcrowded and players
don’t have to wait to tee off.
Members can use their own golf
carts, annual trail fee plans are
offered.
They also can take
advantage of the complete
practice facilities. A P.G.A.
professional golf staff is headed
by golf pro Dave Cunliffe, who
is known for accommodating
players of all levels.
Golf lessons are offered on
a continuing basis: Free men’s
and ladies’ clinics are offered
weekly and private instruction
also is available.
Tom Fontana, chairman of
the Men’s Golf Association
for two years, said Cunliffe
Boca Piquant

Gia Wachterman, a Boca Woods member, putts on the 13th green on the Lakes Golf Course. Boca Woods Country
Club features two 18-hole championship golf courses with five different sets of tees on each to challenge players at
all skill levels. MATT DEAN
has been successful at keeping
everyone happy.
MGA members, who
number about 300, keep
busy all year, Fontana said.
They compete in Wednesday
tournaments, organize four
major tournaments a year, and
conduct a summer league with
other clubs.
The socially active Women’s
Golf Association also is popular
at Boca Woods, with members
playing in weekly tournaments
and in major breakfasts,
tournaments and luncheons.
Boca Woods also offers
Junior Golf activities including
clinics, tournaments and other
opportunities to play.
“There’s something here for
everyone,” Fontana said.

om Fontana is
one Boca Woods
Country Club member
who takes advantage
of the amenities available at
this established golf and tennis
community that offers a relaxed,
friendly environment in a
beautiful South Florida setting.
“The best part of this club is that
in season, you can play any time
you want,” Fontana said of both
golf and tennis at Boca Woods. He
plays golf four times a week and
tennis twice a week.
He credits his wife Linda for
making the decision to move to
Boca Woods from New Jersey nine
years ago. “She said, ‘Tom, this is
perfect.” And it is, he said.
General Manager Sandy
McGaughey describes Boca
Woods’ tennis program as “totally
rejuvenated,” mainly due to what
he calls a rebound in private club
members’ interest in the sport
during the past four or five years.
“This is a hotbed for tennis,” he
said, especially youth tennis.
The club’s tennis program has
been bolstered with the arrival last
summer of new tennis director
Geoff Moore, the U.S. Clay Court
Champion. Since then, the club’s
eight Har-Tru courts have been
completely reconditioned with the
replacement of their soft playing
surface and improvements to court
drainage and wind screens.
New court furniture completed
the transformation of the Boca
Woods Tennis Complex, where
men play tennis on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, while women play on
Wednesdays and Fridays.
Two lighted courts allow
members to play into the evening
if they so desire.
The club’s Men’s Grand Slam
League Team continued to play
strong before breaking for the
holidays, while the Palm Beach
Senior Tennis League Men’s and
Women’s Teams currently are
competing hard against other area
clubs.
Moore, who hails from Brisbane,
Australia, oversees a wide range of
tennis events and clinics
at
Boca Woods for players at all skill
levels. Junior classes and clinics
also are offered to children during
summer and holiday breaks from
school, when many grandchildren
of members visit Boca Woods.
All members are eligible to
join the Boca Woods Racquet
Club, which provides access to
many events and activities such
as Sunday tennis with breakfast,
afternoon tennis happy hours,
Pro-Am events and an annual
dinner-dance.
“We are spending a lot of money
on our tennis courts, making
sure they are the best,” said Alan
Platner, president of Boca Woods
Country Club. “Boca Woods is on
the move, we are really moving this
club forward and upward.”

BOCA WOODS MEMBERS MAKE GIVING
A PRIORITY, HELPING MANY EACH YEAR
BY TRACY FANTACCIONE
he spirit of giving
remains strong yearround at Boca Woods
Country Club, thanks
to the leadership of members and
staffers who lead various charitable
groups.
One of the club’s main philanthropic events is the Boca Woods
Women’s Club annual Fashion
Show and Luncheon. During the
December event, two $1,000
undergraduate scholarships and one
$1,000 graduate scholarship were
presented to three students at Lynn
University’s College of Nursing.
Money raised from the luncheon is
used for the scholarships, according
to Women’s Club President Ferne
Wolff. A raffle during the luncheon
raised $1,965 for Hospice-By-
The-Sea in Boca Raton.
A month earlier, the Boca Woods
Women’s Golf Association hosted
its Opening Breakfast, All-Flights
Scramble and Luncheon, which
carried the theme “The Gift of
Giving.” At the luncheon, the 160
participants were greeted by centerpieces that held items donated to
Boca Helping Hands, a nonprofit
that assists families in need.
A fire at the Boca Helping Hands
warehouse a few weeks before the
event had increased the nonprofit’s
need for assistance and WGA
members led the way, with the
entire community and staff joining
the effort, donating food and many
useful everyday items. The piles of
donations were heaped high. Two
representatives from Boca Helping
Hands attended the Opening to
accept the donations.
A holiday campaign at Boca
Woods raised money and collected
food and supplies for Boca Helping
Hands, because donations to the
group continued to decline.
Boca Woods members wanted to
make sure the group could provide
a Merry Christmas to Boca Raton
families, said Sandy McGaughey,
the club’s executive director.
“We believe we have to share with
those who are less fortunate,” he
said. “And those aren’t just words,
it’s real life.”
Club members show their appreciation to Palm Beach County
firefighters at Station 51, who
provide service to Boca Woods, with
the Firemen’s Ball, a dinner dance
held at the Clubhouse for firefighters and their wives.
Boca Woods also hosts a dinner
dance to raise funds for the Jewish
Federation of South Palm Beach
County, helping to ensure that Federation programs will continue to
be made available to area residents.
The club also sponsors an annual
tournament for Play for P.I.N.K.,
the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s largest grassroots support
organization. The event was held
in January and raised a significant
amount for breast cancer research.
In addition, the club also sponsored a blood drive on behalf of
the local unit of the Pap Corps, the
fundraising group for the Sylvester
Comprehensive Cancer Center at
the University of Miami.

that focuses on the needs of
children and families in south Palm
Beach County.
Golf and tennis players are
supporting the Lynn Cancer Center
and the Louis and Anne Green
Memory and Wellness Center at
FAU, which focuses on the needs of
Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients.
The work of members reflects the
club’s motto, “Cherish the Lifestyle,”
both within Boca Grove and in the
greater Boca Raton area.
BROKEN SOUND MEMBERS
ORGANIZE CHARITABLE GIVING
Broken Sound Golf and Country
Club reports a long list of charitable
activities in 2009 that supported the
South Florida community at large.
Cancer research was high on the
club’s list. Close to $70,000 was
raised last year during A Charity
Challenge at Broken Sound, with
proceeds going to Arnie’s Army
for prostate cancer research and
Play for P.I.N.K. for breast cancer
research. In addition, the club’s
Pap Corps unit, which has more
than 500 members, raises money
to support cancer research at the
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer
Center at the University of Miami.
Various events, including the club’s
annual walkathon, raised more than
$100,000, which was donated by
the club’s Boca Friends for Cancer
Research.
Broken Sound’s chapter of Cell
Phones for Soldiers donated more
than 3,000 cell phones and 70,000
minutes of talk time to soldiers
serving overseas, making it the fifth
most successful group in the nation
for the organization.
Broken Sound members donated
funds to Hadassah, Boca Raton
Police Athletic League, Palm Beach
County Animal Care and Control
and the Tri County Humane Society.
A food drive benefited Boca
Helping Hands and a holiday drive
collected food and money for a
local community in need. New toys
were donated to the Marines for
the annual Toys for Tots campaign.
HAMLET SUPPORTS SUSAN G.
KOMEN FOR THE CURE
Members of The Hamlet Country
Club spent part of their holidays
raising money in support of efforts
by Susan G. Komen for the Cure to
fight breast cancer.
Club members donated items
to sell at the gigantic Black Friday
Flea Market, held the day after
Thanksgiving at Old School Square
in Delray Beach. Nearly $3,000 was
earned that day.
Members also organized “Night
on the Strip” in December and
raised more than $30,000 for the
Susan G. Komen group. More than
165 Hamlet members and guests
attended the event.
According to event cochairwoman Lois Martin, a Hamlet
member and breast cancer survivor,
“The Hamlet has a long and
generous history of service and
charitable activities. Over the past
eight years at the Hamlet, we have
raised $333,000 for Komen for
the Cure that enabled research,
education programming and life
saving treatments and mammograms
for those who could not afford it.”

SURPRISE THE LITTLE ONE IN
YOUR LIFE IN A BIG WAY
There’s something a child will
never forget about the experience
picking out a toy all on his own.
That’s the type of memories that
are made with the personalized service offered to customers at Multi
Kids Toys in West Boca Raton.
The shop is owned by husband
and wife team Fred and Bina
Gross, who hand- pick all the
merchandise in the store. “There’s
something about not going online
to buy something, the child can
actually pick the item up and see if
it’s really right for them,” Fred says.
The shop carries toys for infants
to 12-year-olds, including timeless
playthings such as Jacob’s Ladder,
Magic 8-Balls and Wikki Stix
along with fun stuff such as sushishaped erasers from Japan, paint
sets from France and a variety
of wooden dollhouses, Playmobil
adventure sets, stuffed animals,
puppets and educational toys such
as talking globes.
In fact, this store is so hip it was
carrying dolls from “Where The
Wild Things Are” when it was just
a book by Maurice Sendak, long
before the movie came out last year.
“We have certain criteria on what
we sell,” Fred explains. “It has to
be worthwhile, whimsical and have
value. It can’t be something that
falls apart in three minutes or less.
We like to spend time with our
customers and show them how the
toys work.”
In addition to providing gift
wrapping and shipping services,
Themed dolls line the shelves at Multi Kids Toys in The Reserve shopping center in west Boca Raton.
MATT DEAN
customers also can register their
kids for birthday presents so
when relatives or friends come
into the shop, they’ll have an idea
of what the child wants.
“It’s just the neatest thing
to watch a child who has saved
up their money come into the
shop and they’re picking out
something on their own for the
first time,” Fred says.

FROM CUTE SWEATS TO
SLINKY COCKTAIL DRESSES
The Original i women’s
clothing and accessory shop is
appropriately named.
Geared toward fun, fearless
shoppers seeking on-the-radar
additions to their wardrobe, the
store is an explosion of fierce
fashion finds for juniors and
adults. Owned by Vivian and
Joey Blumenthal, the shop offers
all types of good stuff that makes
it really fun to shop in.
The front part of the
boutique focuses on casual wear,
highlighted recently by peace
and love hoodies by Butter, rock
T-shirts by Vintage Havana
and Ed Hardy bikinis. Toward
the middle of the store, peruse
maxi dresses by Green Dragon
and every day essentials such as
long-sleeved black and white
pocket T-shirts by Pookie and
Sebastian.
The back of the store is
devoted to special occasion
wear with prom, cocktail and
bat mitzvah dresses that include
short, sweet mini-dresses by
Jessica McClintock and slinky
red gowns by Terani.
Formal shoes by Sergio Zelcer
also are in the mix. “We also have
the trendiest jewelry around,”
Joey says of the beaded bracelets
by Orka Mesica and the key
necklaces offered for sale.
Quirky items founds at The
Original i include Yoyo lip gloss,
sequined tank tops by Kersh,
Little Celebrity shirts and fitted
football jerseys printed with the
names of local high schools such
as West Boca Raton and Spanish
River. It’s a chic way to show
school spirit, especially in the
posh 561.

entrees are listed on the menu
as Canyon Classics, including
the amazing Hickory Grilled

glazed carrots.
Accompany that tasty fare with

I mentioned that the Pineapple

recommend the Most Popular
Flirtini (take my advice, buy one
of these for the ladies) the Perfect

For dessert I suggest you try
the Pineapple Upside Down

Ghiradelli Fudge, Key Lime Pie,

cake, everyone has a crab cake
but no one here makes them like
Copper Canyon Grill: their Jumbo
Lump Pan Seared Crab Cake
has no breadcrumb filler and is
held together by fresh ingredients
and Old Bay Seasoning. It is
non-traditional, better tasting
and healthier without all of the
filler found in crab cakes at other
restaurants. Also, don’t pass on the
Fully Smoked Salmon, so perfectly
done minus the fishy taste. That
item really had the taste buds
jumping for joy!
Copper Canyon also offers a 10item Great Beginnings appetizer
menu featuring Legendary Baked

after trying this delicious item) and
Shrimp Cargot, just to name a few.
Other must-haves: Iron Skillet

The interior of the restaurant
is enticing. The rotisserie chicken
served at Copper Canyon Grill is
hand-rubbed with 31 spices and
cooked over a flame burning pecan
and hickory wood. The rotisserie
spins continuously in the main
dining room, where it is on display
for diners.
The dining room houses spacious
booths and tables on varying
levels, and a huge central bar that
dominates the restaurant. The open
kitchen features a sushi bar with a
mirror above it so you can watch
what the sushi chef is creating. A
wine room is available for large
parties and is secluded enough for
business meetings or special events.
Chef Steve Harmon tantalizes
restaurant patrons with a DelMarVa
Crab Dip Appetizer, slow-cooked
Ranch House Ribs, Sally’s Chicken
Pie, and Cowboy Rib-eye Steak, cut
and cooked perfectly for the big
guy. For lighter fare try the Not Too

The owners of Copper Canyon
Grill, a casual restaurant that seats

by about one restaurant per year.
Rather than expanding at a faster
rate, this franchise formerly known
as Red Rock is focused on giving
existing restaurants in various
markets a run for their money.
The Maryland-based company
already has found success
with restaurants in Orlando,

Copper Canyon Grill will have
