SOCIAL CLUB REPORT.
Hi Folks, well here we are almost at the end of another great year! Times flies by when
you‘re having fun. Our last happy hour for this year was a great night with around 120 residents and friends enjoying the evening. The membership draw was won by Maggie Synon
who was delighted to receive the $150 prize money. Thanks to all who supported Happy
hour and Tavern nights. We missed Denise at Happy hour as she had to go into hospital to have
a foot operation. All went well and she will be back in full force at the Christmas Party.
Plans are underway for our Village Christmas Party on Sunday 11th December and 130
residents have booked in for the big day. Doors open at 11.00am. There will be Ham and pork
raffles as well as the normal raffles. We also have some freebies to give away throughout the
day! JOHN BENNETT will be playing some easy listening music for us, plus Santa may
drop in on his way past!! Bar Opens at 11.00am. Lunch will be served at 1.00pm. Don‘t forget
to wear your Christmas gear! I still have some seats left if you wish to attend, please ring me.

COBAKI LITTLE THEATRE.
Our shows for 2011 are over and from the response we have received back from the survey
we sent out, you are all happy for us to continue. We have taken on board suggestion made
to us. In our first show for 2012 we will be including a matinee. Seating will be restricted
to 60 seats per session, making it more comfortable for the audience. The cost of the shows
was also bought up in the survey. The cost of putting on shows is not cheap, costumes cost a
lot, even though we try to keep that down as much as possible, our equipment is also a very
expensive item and needs to be kept up to a good standard. The money we raise from one
show pays for the next one. We are not there to make profits and accumulate funds, it all
goes back into equipment, costumes & props. We do thank you for the support we received
with ‗Starlite Circus‘. Easter next year is at the beginning of April and our show will be
mid way through April. Looking forward to seeing you there ..
COBAKI COBBA’S SOCIAL BOWLS CLUB.
Another great weekend was had by all wuo went away with the ‗Cobaki Cobba‘s Bowls club.
The weather wasn‘t always on our side but that didn‘t deter us from having a good time. Leaving the village on NSW time, it was into Qld time for the next two days. As our bus driver,
David, said—we go by Mickey Mouse time. He was a Queenslander!!! We stopped for morning tea at Caboolture with home made cookies, cakes, sandwiches etc. Thanks ladies— you
know who they are.
We arrived at Tin Can Bay a little later than planned but no one seemed to worry. We had a
short tour around the area before booking into the motel. Great! Our own little ‗village‘ overnight. A hearty lunch followed by home made cakes etc at the local Bowls Club followed by a
game of bowls. The non bowlers set off for a tour of Rainbow Beach. Places of interest were
pointed out by our new friend Peter who elected to come along with us to show us around.
Nothing better than a local to know the short cuts. The only disappointment of the afternoon
was that we could have had a free barge trip to Frazer Island and return free. The weather
was the only thing that stopped us. We did have a coffee stop and walk around.
Back to pick the bowlers up and an hour to relax at the motel before dinner. I can guarantee
that no one was left hungry after dinner. From the people who had lamb shanks ‗they weren‘t
lamb— they were dinosaurs!!!!! They were BIG!!
More food next morning, full breakfast. Time to relax on the coach on our way to Bribie
Island, with a comfort stop at Gympie where we caught up with ‗Matilda the Kangaroo‘ who
first appeared to us all at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games. She has been restored to her
best and is in a great location at Gympie Matilda Centre. More food & Bowls at Bribie Island.
Some of us enjoyed a walk in the sunshine along the jetty and foreshore. Time to relax on our
way home and leave the driving to our trusty driver David, who returned us all home safe and
sound around 8.30pm.
At Tin Can Bay, our bowlers played mixed Social Bowls and enjoyed it immensely
A Bribie Island our bowlers played with a bus load of bowlers from Sunnybank Brisbane.
and played a team of Veterans. It was Veterans day. This also proved a great day‘s bowling.
Our raffle winners of ‗Wish cards‘ from ‗Big W‘ were Jean Southway, Fred Torrie & Minnie
Oliver. Congratulations to all and our other lucky winners. On behalf of myself and the other
committee members, a very big thank you to our club members and visitors who enjoyed their
weekend. Your support is very much appreciated. We will be having another trip round the
same time next year, hope to see you ‗all back on board‘.
A personal thank you from Denise
SPECIAL THANK YOU.
We would like to give a ‗very big thank you‘ to Denise, Jim, Dot & Vic, for organising
such a wonderful trip to Tin Can Bay. We had a terrific time eating –drinking etc. Bring on the
next one, but wait until we lose all the weight we put on with this one!! Chris & Ian
There are photos of the trip on the next page
THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Oh how carefully we pack them away
all sorted and untwisted twelve months to stay.
But now it‘s time to start again.
Where will we begin.
Wires all twisted, globes all out, it really
would be easier to throw them all out.
Each Christmas, we say never again,
It‘s far too much trouble,
We‘ll just enjoy all the others.
Then little by little the wonderland begins.
Yes O Yes we WILL... do it again.
Merry Christmas.
Thank you Maggie for your poem, it‘s so true!

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant, and resumed their trip
When leaving, the elderly woman left her glasses on the table, and she didn't miss them until
they had been driving for about 40 minutes By then, to add to the aggravation, they
had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around, in order to return to
the restaurant to retrieve her glasses All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic
grouchy old man. He fussed and complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during
the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he became.
He just wouldn't let up for a single minute
To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the woman got out of the car
and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her,
"While you're in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card."

LIBRARY To all you very kind people who have made donations to our library, a
big THANK YOU, our selection of books and DVD‘s, well you just have to see it to
believe it. If you have not called in why not do so over the holidays, we are open
every day, seven days a week during daylight hours. Once again thank you Jim for all
our help over the past year. We wish you all a Happy & Prosperous New Year. Ian & Chris
GOLF CROQUET Our membership has exploded to 20 players and our one little
existing field suddenly got very crowded. Fortunately Harry Kucko came to our
rescue and gave us permission to develop a second playing field on adjoining land
and plenty of work has already been done to bring it up to a reasonable playing standard. Apart from Harry's generosity, Bruno has also given this project
fabulous support in supplying various things needed. A big thanks also goes to Brian Bethel
for his work on the new field to date. Brian is also particularly talented in making coloured
centre pegs and flags amongst other things. He has also found a shed for the club to store its
equipment etc. Our own Cobaki Village Social Club has also been great in providing a new
set of croquet balls. The club now offers organised games of Golf Croquet every Saturday
and Wednesday morning from 8.30am and Ricochet every Friday.
On Sunday 6th November our club played a friendly challenge against the Coolangatta
Croquet Club in Lanham St and much fun was had by all. They are still talking about the nice
afternoon tea that was provided. We will be having our last organised playing day on Saturday 17th December followed by a XMAS break up in the Dennis King Centre following the
games. The club will recommence in mid January. Remember new members are always
welcome. Until the next newsletter, happy swinging into the new year.

BOWLS By the time this goes to print, our spit roast Christmas dinner will have
come and gone. With all our members and partners we have a very good turn out
of 35 and a good time will be had by one and all. I would like to thank Denise
for putting on morning tea for us every Monday, with a very good variation of
goodies. Also Doris who has most of my jobs done on a Monday morning before
I get there for the heavy work, and when we have finished our bowls, there are
plenty of helping hands to put everything back in place. So THANK YOU ALL and have a
lovely Christmas. Our last game will be on 19th December and the first game for the new
year will be on 9th January. When we hope to see a few new faces.

CRAFT Hi Everyone, Well here we are at the end of another year, and counting our blessings we made it. I don't know about you, but to me the year has just
flown by. It has been a year of mixed blessings, we have lost a few good friends,
but we also have made a few new ones. Now, just a reminder that we at the
craft group do not close down for the Christmas break, we still meet together
every Thursday for a social afternoon, as well as doing a bit of craft, and having a
lovely afternoon tea, that is if we have any room left in our Tums after all that
scrumptious Christmas fare. We wish all our November babes a very happy birthday.
7th Pam Cole 14th Norma Wood 23rd Peg Percy 27th Betty Lafferty
And not forgetting Nessie Fleming who has a birthday on 29th December
We hope everyone has a happy healthy Christmas, 'and do come back yo hear' Mary Colgate
COMPUTER CLUB Has anyone come across a recent Microsoft program
called "Your Browser Matters" ? It is supposed to compare several different Web
browsers so you can see which one is best for you. Surprise, surprise, M$'s
Internet Explorer comes out on top! Independent tests do not agree and obviously the real world does not either. IE has been the most popular browser since
1992 when it overtook Netscape Navigator but earlier this year it lost that position and now is
well below 50% of most common use. This is costing M$ money, hence the attempt to convince everyone that "ours is best". So, why not try some of the others? There's Opera (very
fast), Mozilla Firefox (fast, many features - first with page tags), Safari (from Apple), Google
Chrome (fast, easy). At the moment I am trying out Comodo Dragon (a tweaked version of
Chrome with added security).
Our end-of-year break up will be on December 16 so, all members and former members,
come along with a small plate of goodies and drinks (or there's tea/coffee).
We'll resume meetings on January 13. Wishing all Cobakites a very Merry Christmas. Mac
AQUA AEROBICS At last I can say come on in the water is fine. Welcome back
to last seasons regulars. It was also nice to see some new faces giving it a try. As
Christmas day and New Years Day both fall on a Sunday, we will NOT be taking a
break. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all residents A Very Happy
Christmas and a healthy New Year.
Look forward to seeing you week days at 7-00am in the pool.
Tess
BINGO Bingo was carried out while Michael and I visited friends and relations
in the Illawarra. Lillian took over the reins, with the help of Kathy, ―thank you
girls‖. Bingo this week was held outside the hall, which was very pleasant.
I would like to add to my report, that I went to the village concert and was very
pleased with the professional performance of all the cast. Please carry on it was
most entertaining, can‘t wait for the next one.
We meet every MONDAY 1-30 in the Recreation Hall. Our last meeting will be on
Monday 12th December, starting up again on Monday 9th. January
Jean & Lillian
CANASTA Another year has almost gone, but what a wealth of memories we
have of our weekly gathering of friends for our Canasta afternoons; many laughs,
a few worries about the welfare of some members with health problems and some
great gastronomical surprises for afternoon teas.
Our Christmas luncheon will be held on Wednesday 14th December. If we could
commence at 12 noon we should be finished by 1 p.m. ready to start our game.
Please bring a small plate to share and whatever you wish to drink. We will work out prior to
that what each one will bring so that we don't finish up with 10 plates of sandwiches and 6
plates of Christmas cake.
We are not closing down over the holidays as we have found in the past that there are
quite a few people who don't have family nearby to share the holiday season with and they
still look forward to the weekly game, so roll up as usual. We get together each Wednesday at
1-00pm till about 4-30 Hoping you all have a happy Christmas and New Year and looking
forward to another good year in 2012.

SINGLE LADIES This last month some of us have been to shows in Twin Towns
and lunched at the Dolphin Hotel. Life is speeding up with the Christmas season approaching quickly – we are off to The Spirit of Christmas in Twin Towns during
December. Our Christmas dinner is also fast approaching as well as the village
Christmas lunch, and of course, we have been to see the ―Starlight Circus‖ here in the village.
This year we conclude our busy year on the 14th Dec and resume on the 18th Jan, 2012.
We wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas & New Year. Jean
STREET PARTY IN 4TH Ave.
Thank you to Bruno, for delivering the tables and Chairs for our ‗Street Christmas Party.‘
Food was over flowing, with heaps of yummy things bought along by everyone. It was great
to get to know our neighbours more, we had a good time, plenty of laughs, or maybe that was
after we drank the punch Lorraine made! The big surprise was Santa arriving with his little
fairy helper, they greeted everyone and gave them a gift.
Santa was melting away by the
time he finished. This turned out to be a wonderful fun time for 4th Ave.

can "speak" by using her iPad.
We are in NZ visiting family and will cruise back to Sydney at Christmas time."

Well done to TRISH and all her helpers. The hall was decorated out to
perfection, the hamburgers and salad were very tasty. Congratulations to
the many people who got in to the swing of evening.
The costumes and
trouble that people went to was just amazing. Once again well done Harry
GARDENING WITH ROSS
Growing Cucumbers in the village.
Cucumbers need a nice rich soil with a good feed of Blood & Bone
before you transplant then. They like to be kept moist but not wet.
You can grow Cucumbers in your back yard up a wall or on an Archway.
This takes up very little room. Please do not remove the potted plants
over in the veggie garden area they belong to the gardeners, If you are
interested in buying some please contact me.
Happy gardening Ross
TELEVISION REPAIR MAN. Is you TV giving you a hard time, do you think your aerial
has moved, or having trouble getting the Free to Air programs, well give MATTHEW a
call on 0418758558. He has been coming into the village for years. He is very reasonable
and will have your set fixed in no time,
I can thoroughly recommend him.
Harry
ANOTHER recommended Television man who has given excellent service at very good
prices especially for putting up antennas that will give you both NSW and QLD using only
one antenna. Worth giving him call.

SOMETHING TO TRY. We have been doing a lot of travelling, both by air and sea and
we have had the same travel agent for the past six years. Our travel agent always goes to
the extreme to find us the best deals on air fares, cruising, accommodation, transfers and
guided tours. We are happy to recommend him to you all, and quite certain that he will do
the same for you. His name is Damian Clarke phone 07 56308900 or email him at
