Performance Review Institute
About eQuaLearn
eQuaLearn offers professional development programs and managed learning
resources to improve the quality of personnel, products and processes through
public and onsite courses and memberships.
eQuaLearn is managed by the not-for-profit Performance Review Institute (PRI),
which also administers the Nadcap audit and accreditation program for the global
aerospace industry.
Past
The eQuaLearn program was launched in 2008, with subscribing organizations
within Nadcap endorsing the training courses. While PRI offered limited professional
development courses prior to 2008, the establishment of eQuaLearn has led
to the development of a greater number of courses in more diverse technical
specializations. Many courses have been translated into multiple languages to meet
customer need.
Present
eQuaLearn offers three core tracks:
(1) G
eneral courses provide an understanding of key quality principles
(2) T
echnical courses provide in depth training on technical subjects
(3) Qualification courses for special process personnel
Courses are available in a range of formats from public sessions, customized
onsite sessions, hosting options and webinars. There is a style to suit everyone’s
training needs.
The range and diversity of courses offered means that whether you are new to the
aerospace quality field or if you have been in aerospace quality for a while but never
had any foundation training, there is a course to suit you.
Future
eQuaLearn will continue to expand the range of courses to include both general
quality, specific engineering process focused topics and qualification courses.
As the demand for qualified talent in technical fields is increasing, and the pool of
talent is decreasing, more business solutions will be developed.
General Facts
• Over 25 instructors speaking 13 languages.
•More than 40 courses available in 9 languages
•Sessions conducted in 18 different countries
• Over 50% of eQuaLearn instructors are bilingual.
•More than 3000 participants at public sessions worldwide.
•Courses currently available in English, French, German, Polish, Spanish,

Two days
The course is presented by experienced aerospace professionals
with direct experience of Process FMEA. An important aspect of the
course is the opportunity to ask questions, at any time and on any
subject related to Process FMEA. The course is built around short exercises to illustrate various points plus a longer, more detailed exercise
which allows all participants to have completed a full Process FMEA
by the end of the two days.
Process FMEA is a two day course. Please find the full

What is FMEA
“I should have attended this before.”
Cornel Misonov, BMT Romania
Course Objectives:
• Clarify the role of Process FMEA as part of Risk
Management in the aerospace industry
• Explain the components of a Process FMEA
• Present a method for completing Process FMEA
Explains what FMEA is and how it works. Different kinds of FMEA
are presented and their role in the product cycle explained.
Process FMEA step by step
FMEA is usually completed using a form or model with 15
components. These are presented in detail with explanations and
examples:
• Who is doing this FMEA and why?
• What are functions, features or requirements?
• What are failure modes?
• What are the effects of each failure mode?
• How is severity assessed? How important is each failure mode?
• How is criticality assessed?
• What is a ‘cause’ of a failure
• What is ‘occurrence’ – how often does the cause happen?
• What controls or safeguards currently exist?
• How likely is the failure to be detected – how effective are the
controls. What is ‘detection’
• How is the risk evaluated? What is a Risk Priority Number
(RPN)?
• What should be done to reduce the risk (corrective action)?
• Who is going to do it and by when?
• What was done?
• By how much was the risk reduced? What is the revised RPN?

Problem
Solving Tools
One day
The course presents an overview of problem solving and Root Cause
Corrective Action systems to show the relevance of various tools.
Choosing the right tool(s) is critical to getting effective solutions to
problems and issues. From over 30 possible tools, eight are presented in detail, covering collecting, structuring and using information.
Cause and Effect diagram
Tools require handling and practice, so the course includes exercises
and examples to allow the attendees to practice the knowledge and
skills presented in a pressure free environment.
5 Why
Problem Solving Tools is a one day course.
Please find the full course summary below.
Prblem Solving and the Toolkit
Explains how most problem solving methodologies have similar
components and how the toolkit can be used within them.
The Toolkit
Each module is presented in the same way. The tool is introduced
and an example shown. An exercise then allows the attendees
to practice using the tool. Finally some extension examples are
illustrated to show how the tool can be developed or extended for
better results.
Flowchart / Process Map
Simple in concept and powerful in application, flowcharts are
used to define processes – to describe what we think happens.
They can be used to evaluate the impact of changes on
processes. Developments include more detailed process maps
or using annotated flowcharts in place of procedures or work
instructions.
Is/Is Not analysis
Defining the problem is key to any problem solving process.
‘Is/Is Not’ assists by making positive statements of the factors
known to be involved as well as those known not to be involved.
This assists in defining boundaries for problems by identifying
gaps in the team’s knowledge, usually then allowing an objective
and quantitative description of the problem.
Tally charts / Location Map
Collecting data is basic to any problem solving. Firstly for establishing
the current condition and later for confirming the effects of changes.
Simple tally charts can structure to data collection to allow
instantaneous and continuous analysis of the data. Development into
location maps allows tally data to be examined by incident locations,
showing defect or accident hot spots.
Pareto
Once collected, data needs to be analysed. While modern
computers make this easy, a ranking using Pareto analysis
remains one of the simplest and most effective analysis tools. It
allows quick identification of the most significant contributors to a
problem while retaining a context for acting on them.
Brainstorming
Every 7 year old knows that asking ‘why’ can take you to
interesting places. ‘Why’ is the question to ask when you do not
know the reason for something – in this case the cause of the
problem. Ask why enough times and you should arrive at a basic
or root cause. ‘5 Why’ is one of the simplest and most powerful
tools yet it is often abused and criticised. We show how to use it
effectively and to verify the results before taking action.
Mistake Proofing
Deciding what to do about a problem can be very easy and very
difficult – easy to think of things to do, difficult to choose highly
effective actions. Mistake Proofing encourages highly effective
actions by asking the questions:
1. Can we eliminate the problem altogether, so that the mistake
cannot be made?
2. Can we make it impossible to propagate a mistake?
3. Can we make the system such that the mistake is certain to
be detected?
Course Objectives:
• Clarify the role of Process FMEA as part of Risk
Management in the aerospace industry
• Explain the components of a Process FMEA
• Present a method for completing Process FMEA
Who should attend?
• Those who have general oversight responsibilities for
addressing Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
• Those who are or will be responsible for managing or
directly participating in the Process Failure Modes and
Effects Analysis.

s
Having identified a problem, ideas are needed as to what could
have caused the problem and what to do about it. Brainstorming
is a simple technique for encouraging open and lateral thinking.
It can be more than just ‘what do we do now?’ Following some
simple rules can make an event much more effective. Suggestions
for enhancing the flow of ideas are included.
The ideas that come from brainstorming, and from identifying
contributors to issues, usually benefit from being placed in a
structure that shows how they link to the problem (the effect).
Cause and Effect diagrams provide that structure.
