Successful children, achieving high standards Newsletter Newsletter Friday 26th February 2016 From the team in the school office… Dear Mums, Dads and carers, ParentPay… From this weekend, there is a link on our school website to the ParentPay website. Thank you to those mums and dads who have already signed up to pay for dinner money via this site. World Book Day… Please help your children to come to school on World Book Day dressed as their favourite character from a book. There are lots of exciting activities planned for that day, including a book quiz. We have asked children to do lots and lots of reading between now and next Thursday to be ready for the book quiz. World Book day events: Assembly, whole school, to see everyone’s costume Book Quizzes in class Whole school book quiz, 2.30pm Cake and book sale at 3.30pm I am pleased that I have my costume organised and ready for next Thursday. Parents please follow us on Twitter and you will see many, many different costumes next Thursday. Visiting teachers… This week we have had a few teachers visiting Kender from other schools. I am pleased to inform you that all of our visitors commented on how calm and purposeful the children were. It’s really helpful to get this kind of feedback from teachers who see and work in other schools. One comment in our visitors book: ‘Excellent school…thank you…keep going!’ Standards in English & Maths books… Ms Rolfe, who leads on English, and Ms Brown, who leads on Maths, spent an afternoon working with colleagues from the other schools scrutinising the standards of achievement in English and Maths books from schools in our local Collaborative. This is a valuable exercise to judge and learn from other schools, seeing how they develop children’s learning. I am equally pleased to report that the standards in our books are at least comparable if not stronger than books evidenced from other schools. Contact details/phone numbers… Mums and dads it is essential that we always have the latest up to date contact details. If you have changed your mobile number please inform the Office Team as soon as possible. Somerville Youth and Play Provision Somerville has been selected as a finalist in the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. The funding will transform the playground facilities. You can help achieve this by voting for Somerville at Tescos! Tesco customers can place a free vote with a token received at the checkout with every purchase at local stores from 27 Feb – 6 March. The project with the highest vote will receive £12,000. Please help Somerville by placing a vote for the playground with any purchase you make.
