THE MOST CELEBRATED WINE
IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN WINE (LOTS 483-854)
Fred Schrader began his life as a vintner with one defining goal in mind, to create benchmark Cabernets from the best
vineyards in the Napa Valley. Fifteen years later with seventeen 100-point scores under his belt from the likes of Robert
Parker, The Wine Advocate and James Laube, The Wine Spectator, Schrader Cellars continues to define itself as one of the
best producers of Cabernet in the history of American wine. Receiving more 100-point scores than any other winery in the
history of American wine, 2016 marks a special year in the lifetime of Schrader Cellars.
The story of Schrader Cellars began in 2001 when Fred met Thomas Brown, a little known winemaker who moved to
California by way of North Carolina. Thomas took the helm of winemaking for Schrader and he and Fred never looked
back. Thomas’ methods of non-interventionist winemaking were a novel idea at the time throughout the valley. He believed
in showing the true colors of a vineyard and when working with Beckstoffer To Kalon fruit he had access to nothing short
of the best.
After a few years of working together, Fred and Thomas found themselves harvesting the incredibly concentrated fruit of
the 2006 vintage. Fred looks back on this time with happiness as the 2006 vintage was the first 100-point scores that a
Schrader wine received. The 2007 and 2008 vintages brought with them another pair of 100-point scores for the Schrader
CCS and Schrader Old Sparky. This was the first time in the 32-year history of The Wine Advocate that a wine received
three consecutive 100-point scores for the same marque and Schrader did this with two of their wines.
After 2011, the Schrader wines were submitted for their first retrospective reviews and began to show their true colors.
It is one thing for a California wine to show itself as incredibly balanced and superbly drinkable at a young age but it is
an even greater complement to bestow a California Cabernet with the ability to age for years to come. Since Schrader
began submitting wines to retrospective reviews from Robert Parker, they have consistently received higher ratings every
consecutive vintage from 2001 through 2005.
The following collection of wine contains formats and quantities of Schrader wines that have never before been released to
the public. Schrader Cellars is excited to provide future lots that feature the 2014 vintage, as well as special lots featuring
the benchmark 2013 vintage, one of the best vintages on record in the Napa Valley. As ever, Zachys Wine Auctions is

A cooler vintage, 2010 forced us to make an early thinning
pass through the vineyard to reduce the crop load and
concentrate the vines’ strength. Mid-October rains affected
some growers however Thomas had already picked our
fruit by then which allowed us to create the concentrated
balanced wines that people know and love.

A lighter vintage, 2009 started out as a dry year however
rains during the spring were able to provide enough water
to sustain the vines throughout the summer months. The
2009 Schrader Cabernets are excellent wines with a great

BOARS’ VIEW — THE NEWEST PROJECT FROM SCHRADER CELLARS
AND PARTNERS (LOTS 855-868)
What began as a passion project along the Sonoma Coast has turned into an established Pinot Noir
and Chardonnay brand that is producing some of the most interesting and approachable Pinot Noirs
that the Coast has to offer.
Located 45 minutes from the nearest town down a winding country road is a parcel of land that is
located along a gentle sloping cornice above the fog belt. Needless to say if you forget to buy milk
out here you are going to be drinking your coffee black. With optimal proximity to the coast and
moderate maritime influences, the Boars’ View vineyard is situated on a prime location for making
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Upon acquiring Boars’ View, Fred and Carol Schrader, along with their partners David and Judy
Steiner and Chuck and Nell Sweeney, knew that in order to produce the best wine from a rustic
coastal vineyard in Sonoma County the man to call was Ulises Valdez. In 2007 Ulises was hired on
as vineyard manager and he worked hand in hand with Thomas Brown to cultivate the land and plant
the vineyard with the correct clonal varieties.
An aficionado of California Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Thomas knew the temperate conditions of the
vineyard would provide an excellent environment for growing California heritage clones, renowned
for their robust fruit flavors and muscular structure.
It is commonly held that vineyards continue to grow toward their full potential for the first seven years
after planting as the root systems continue to develop. With this in mind we were floored to hear that
our debut 2012 Vintage received top scores among Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs of the vintage even
when the vines were only on their fifth leaf.
We are excited to offer all the vintages of our Boars’ View Pinot Noir and Chardonnay ever produced.
As the Chardonnay is an extremely limited production wine it has been maintained in our Partners’
cellars for personal use and until now has never been sold to the public.

who are so famous for their Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignons over in Napa. Boars’ View is a
10-acre hilltop planted with Chardonnay and Pinot
Noir, overseen by vineyard manager Ulises Valdez and
winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who also makes the
Cabernet Sauvignons under the Schrader moniker. They
chose to plant Old Wente for their Chardonnay vineyard,
and for the Pinot Noir, they utilized the California heritage
clones, such as Calera, Mt. Eden and Swan. The first
vintages are impressive, but production in 2012 was
virtually nothing. The real production started in 2013.

The 2012 Vintage on the Sonoma Coast produced wines
with excellent character with tangy acidity and incredible
balance between the tannins and the fruit. More important
however is that the 2012 Boars’ View wines were
produced from vines that were on their 5th leaf, meaning
that these vines were only 5 years old. To garner a 95
on our Pinot Noir from James Laube and a 95 on our
Chardonnay from Robert Parker was truly breathtaking.

The first wine produced under the Boars’ View name,
the 2011 Vintage is a special wine that established this
vineyard and estate as one of the top vineyard sites along
the Sonoma Coast. Made from vines that were planted in
2008 the wine is quite profound even though the vineyard
was relatively young. As a vintage, 2011 was a good year
along the Sonoma Coast. The rainfall that affected much of
the Napa Valley came after the Pinot Noir grapes had been
picked so the harvest was not affected and the grapes were
able to achieve optimal ripeness.

Myriad Cellars has steadily built a strong reputation for excellent Cabernet Sauvignon from
the Napa Valley. Starting his winemaking career as an assistant to Thomas Brown, Mike Smith
began travelling to Napa Valley during harvest in order to learn as much as possible about the
winemaking process and the wine business as a whole. After his third consecutive harvest with
Thomas, Mike was hired on as a full-time assistant and he moved his family from Portland,
Oregon to St. Helena, California in order to make sure he could fully immerse himself in the
winemaking world.
After a few years, Mike decided to break out on his own and began to make wines for Carter
Cellars while beginning to focus more time on his own brand, Myriad. Building a complete
portfolio of wines over the years, Mike has gotten consistently high reviews from both Wine
Spectator as well as The Wine Advocate. Most recently, the 2012 and 2013 Vintages of the
Myriad Dr. Crane wines have received top marks from Robert Parker where he describes the
Myriad Elysian Reserve as “first-growth...stunningly seamless, full-bodied, rich, and a brilliant

In 1992, Fred and his previous wife Ann Colgin founded Colgin-Schrader Cellars together as they looked to
take on Napa Valley Cabernet. Looking to produce Cabernet Sauvignon at the highest level, Fred and Ann
hired Helen Turley to head the production of the Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. From the start
Colgin-Schrader Cellars received high marks from The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator alike. With high
scores and incredible wine to back them up, demand for the wine rose and Fred and Ann continued to
focus on the production of Cabernet Sauvignon at the highest level.
The wines that are being offered here are direct from Fred Schrader’s cellar and have been there since they
were originally produced at the winery. The last remaining bottles in this co-founder’s cellar contains an
unprecedented assortment of 750ml bottles, magnums as well as a 3L bottle from the 1995 vintage and
a 6L bottle of the 1993 vintage, one of two bottles ever produced. The 1993 vintage has been praised as
“an exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon that will be approachable upon release; it will age for 20+ years”
by Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate, receiving a staggering 96 points. The 1995 vintage from which a
magnum and 3L bottle is to be offered, received a 98 point rating from Mr. Parker marking it as one of the
highest rated Colgin wines to date.

One-of-a-Kind Whiskey

Prohibition Era
We have never come across a whiskey as interesting or rare as this offering from the prohibition era. Bottled by the
American Medicinal Spirits Company the label reads “Fine old Bourbon Whiskey made in Kentucky before prohibition,
stored in the finest oak barrels for over 15 years and bottled in bond under government supervision especially for the
stockholders of the National Distillers Products Corporation.” There are two lots in this offering. The first is lot 909,
which is Bourbon distilled in 1916. It remained in cask throughout prohibition and was eventually bottled in 1933.
The second lot, 910, was distilled in the fall of 1917 and bottled 1932. Lot 910 includes the green original boxes as
pictured to the right, as well as the original carton. The rarity of this lot transcends the spirits world having recently been
tasted by famous wine critic Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate to which he gave it praise. Do not miss out on this
