OUR MISSION
collaborations & communities
HVCS’ mission is to promote prevention and wellness for all people, to encourage life-affirming decisions
maximizing their quality of life, and to coordinate care for those living with complex health conditions.
We envision a world where people live healthy lives and have access to the coordinated care they need.
OUR PURPOSE
Hudson Valley Community Services (HVCS) provides community-based healthcare and support services for
Hudson Valley residents living with complex, chronic illnesses. We also educate and counsel people at high
risk for certain infectious diseases. Typically, we work with people who have few resources and don’t know
where to turn for help. We do everything we can to ensure our clients remain connected to the medical care
and support services they need to have a better quality of life.
promoting a better quality of life
HVCS has over thirty years of experience in connecting individuals and families in need to essential resources.
Our professional, caring staff are an important part of a client’s wellness team, and they connect people in
need to a wide range of programs and services. We treat all clients with respect, without judgment or bias.
We encourage clients to become empowered and to make informed choices that improve their health and
their life.

Programs of Hudson Valley
Community Services, Inc.
The past year here at Hudson Valley Community Services has been an embodiment of the phrase, “change is the only constant.” During my first full year as
Executive Director, the agency, its funding sources and the community networks in which we operate have begun to swirl and transform. I’m happy to say
that most of this change has been positive, and much of it was initiated by us.
We applied for and received funding to expand our two mobile prevention programs: our Project Reach Out program for substance users is now operating in
Mid- and Lower Hudson, and our Syringe Exchange Program now serves Ulster
and Sullivan counties in addition to Dutchess and Orange. These expansions
necessitated the creation of a new office, and we opened our Lake Katrine
office—our ninth—in December.
Total Clients Served: 3,532
COUNTY
We successfully applied to continue our CHAPS program, which offers HIV and
sexually transmitted infection prevention interventions to young men of color
who have sex with men, and it too has expanded beyond its Mount Vernon
base in Westchester to three other counties in our region: Rockland, Orange
and Dutchess.
HVCS received new funding offered by the New York State Partnership Initiative to connect low-income residents of the City of Newburgh to health insurance and healthcare.
These programmatic changes have allowed us to create new positions, assist
more people in need, and they position us well for even more growth in the
future. We’re always on the lookout for innovative ways to improve the health
and quality of life for our clients and for diverse funding sources to support
these initiatives. There are other changes coming in the form of new business
models for case management programs like ours, and our need for accurate
data and reporting will continue to grow. One of my goals for HVCS is to confront these changes proactively while constantly improving our offerings for
clients and their families.
I believe HVCS is in a very strong position to do even more good in the coming
year. After a look at this annual report, I hope you’ll agree that HVCS is doing
phenomenal work with vulnerable populations—and you’ll support us however
you can. Our future success depends on collaborating with all kinds of communities, especially our donors, supporters and volunteers.
If you have any questions about this Annual Report, or HVCS’ programs and
services, please contact me or my staff at any time. You may reach me at
(914) 785-8265 or at [email protected]. Again, thank you so much
for your past support, and I look forward to collaborating with you on a bright
future for the Hudson Valley.
Sincerely,
Andrea Straus
