Bespoke Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe Vignale to be Auctioned
One of just four 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe’s transformed by Vignale will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s at the
company’s Driven by Disruption event in New York City on December 10.
Just 22 examples of the Ferrari 250 Europa were ever produced with 18 of those featuring Pininfarina-designed
bodies and the remaining four coming courtesy of Vignale. This particular example is just the second of those four
Vignale models and is chassis number 0313. The car is also the sixth last road-going Ferrari ever produced with
coachwork from Vignale.
After being produced, the car was initially displayed to the public at the World Motor Sports Show at Madison
Square Garden in January 1954. Despite originally leaving the factory painted silver, just prior to the show it was
refinished in red at the request of Luigi Chinetti Motors. In the proceeding decades, the car was owned by a number
of different enthusiasts and under the ownership of Henrich Kampfer from Switzerland, it underwent a massive
restoration which was completed in October 2011 after over 3800 hours of work.
In 2012, it was awarded the Trofeo Foglizzi for the best interior design at the Concours d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in
2012 and at this year’s Cavallino Classic, was awarded Platinum and the Ferrari Classiche Cup as the most
outstanding factory-certified Ferrari from the event. (Brad Anderson)

Bid on Floyd Mayweather's Ferrari Enzo in New York
Floyd Mayweather has a bit of a thing for supercars. Heck, he bought 100 cars from one dealership alone. While his
Ferrari Enzo is just one of many impressive cars in his collection, it's certainly special. And it's for sale.
The 295th example in a run of 400 was done up in Rosso Corsa over black leather and sold new to a buyer in
Dubai who barely ever drove it. Mayweather bought it from its original owner last year and put it in his collection,
alongside so many other Ferraris and Bugattis. He only drove it some 200 miles, though, leaving this as one of the
lowest-mileage Enzos around with just 560 miles on the odometer.
Now that Mayweather is retired, he's putting the Enzo up for auction, consigning it to RM Sotheby's for its upcoming
Driven By Disruption sale in New York next month. The record for the highest price paid for an Enzo at auction
currently stands at over $6 million, set at Monterey this past summer by - you guessed it - RM Sotheby's. But that
was the very last example, made for Pope John Paul II, with just 111 miles on it.
The next highest price (also achieved by RM) was recorded a year prior at $1.925 million. That all-black example
had three owners who clocked over 8,000 miles on it. The auction house anticipates that this example will sell for
$3-3.5 million. Given the celebrity provenance and low mileage on this example, we won't be at all surprised to see
it reach that amount. (Noah Joseph)

Haas F1 Names Esteban Gutierrez Second Driver
The 2016 Formula 1 grid is nearly complete with the announcement that Esteban Gutiérrez will join the Haas F1
Team. To make the most of the signing the Mexican's appointment was announced during the Mexican Grand Prix
weekend, and if the crowds at the grand prix are anything to go by then Haas can count on an instant and large fan
base as of right now.
The 24-year-old Gutiérrez will drive alongside Romain Grosjean, who was announced at the end of September at
Haas' US base in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Gutiérrez spent a little more than two years as a test and reserve
driver for Sauber, plus another two years as a Sauber race driver in 2013 and 2014 before being let go at the end of
last year and signing on as a Ferrari test and reserve driver. Haas' relationship to Ferrari and Gutiérrez' local fans
made him a viable candidate.
Manor is expected to be the only team that might have vacancies, but with recent upheavals there it's yet to be
seen if they'll make the grid next season. (Jonathon Ramsey)

Onboard the Ferrari FXX K at Imola!
Just like the Ferrari 599XX and FXX before it, the new FXX K is restricted to the racetrack and Ferrari’s wealthiest
and most enthusiastic owners. Consequently, it’s virtually impossible for anyone other than owners and Ferrari
employees to drive the marque’s latest multi-million dollar track today.
Thankfully, NM2255 on YouTube recently had the opportunity to strap on some GoPros into an FXX K for some
flying laps around the famed Imola racetrack in Italy. The FXX K in question is finished in a sensational shade of
matte white and during the clip, the driver can be seen almost maxing out the hypercar on Imola’s long straight by
reaching seventh hear on multiple occasions.
As we’ve learned from previous videos of the FXX K, it produces a howl even the finest racing cars couldn’t dream
of matching.
The vehicle is based on the Ferrari LaFerrari and was unveiled in December 2014. It is said to cost around $3
million and its production will not exceed 40 units. The ‘K’ in the name stands for the KERS system that is used in
the FXX K to maximize its power output.
The FXX K features the LaFerrari’s 6.3-litre V12 engine and an electric motor to produce a combined 1023 hp and
over 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. Apparently, the Ferrari FXX K can reach 0 to 100 km/h in around 2.5 seconds
with a top-speed of 350 km/h. However, these numbers have not been confirmed by Ferrari as it closely guards the
exact details of the XX prototypes as the latter borrow technology from the company’s F1 cars. (Anderson)

Maserati Levante Tests at the Nurburgring
The upcoming Maserati Levante SUV has just been filmed in the midst of testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife for
the very first time. While the new Levante is far from a track-focused monster, testing at the Nurburgring is a given
for any new European car these days with it acting as the perfect torture test for future models.
Throughout the clip, we get to see the Levante being driven both gingerly and aggressively on the famed German
circuit in damp and dry conditions. It’s impossible to say at this stage just what engine this Levante mule is testing
but there’s a very good chance it is a V6 possibly making use of forced induction.
Due to the camouflage and body cladding adorning the prototype, little can be said about its design. However, it
seems apparent that its design will be reminiscent of the Kubang concept’s with slim headlights distinct from those
on other Maserati models. Meanwhile at the rear, this test mule features a quad tailpipe system, a high decklid and
moderately raked rear window.
Due to the Maserati Levante’s underpinnings being shared with the Quattroporte, it will be available with the same
powertrains. That means it will be offered with a selection of V6 and V8 engines with the range-topping twin-turbo
V8 likely to deliver in excess of 500 hp. The Levante will also come standard with all-wheel drive. (Anderson)

GT Drivers Head to Mugello
Seven champions to attend on Saturday and Sunday
Maranello, 2 November – Ferrari’s GT drivers are on their way from Rome and Monte Carlo but mainly from
Shanghai, to attend the Finali Mondiali at Mugello from 5 to 8 November.
The Americans. Giancarlo Fisichella and Olivier Beretta starred in a very busy season in America. The Roman
driver competed in the IMSA United SportsCar Championship with the 458 Italia of Risi Competizione, winning
many podium finishes and staying in contention for the title right down to the final races. Olivier was the long-term
leader of the Pirelli World Challenge with the R.Ferri team car, but then lost top spot to Johnny O’Connell in an
unlucky last race at Laguna Seca. Both also starred in the GTE Pro at the Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing respectively
third and second.
Five plus one. Five Ferrari official drivers plus another 2015 star are on their way from Shanghai. We mean
Gianmaria “Gimmi” Bruni and Toni Vilander, and James Calado and Davide Rigon, drivers of 458 Italia GTEs no. 51
and 71 in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the world’s most important GT series. Then there is also
Andrea Bertolini, leader of the drivers’ standings in the GTE-Am class and winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours with the
Ferrari of SMP Racing. His partner Aleksey Basov is due to race the 458 Challenge EVO AF Corse in the Trofeo
Pirelli of the Ferrari Challenge Europe and also in the world championship.
Princesses. Two princesses will be awaiting the seven champions, the Ferrari 488 GTE and the GT3. These cars
equipped with turbo engines will be unveiled to the public for the first time and will be key players in next season’s
WEC championship and the world’s most important GT series.

The LaFerrari’s Perfect License Plate Is Going To Auction For Silly Money
Can you think of the perfect custom license plate to put on a Ferrari LaFerrari? The Henry Surtees Foundation,
which is based in the UK, has the best answer we’ve seen so far, and it's about to action it off for loads of cash. As
many of you know, customized plates in the United Kingdom are often given to the lucky winner who puts the
highest bid on the plate, not necessarily the first person to think of the idea. This sometimes rewards people who
are very wealthy rather than those who are very creative.
In this case, however, the money spent by the highest bidder is going to a fantastic charitable organization. The
name of the license plate (or vehicle registration plate, as it’s called there) is “V12 LAF.” We can’t think of a better
name to have on the back of Ferrari’s V12 hybrid-powered halo supercar. The plate “V12 LAF” can only go to one
lucky winner of the auction, which runs until the end of November. This plate pairs perfectly with the spectacular
800-hp V12 engine and 163-hp KERS hybrid system that brings the exotic to a completely mental 963 combined
horsepower. This money from this auction goes directly to the aforementioned Henry Surtees Foundation.
Specifically, the Foundation assists people who have suffered brain or physical injuries in auto accidents. The
Foundation also provides education and training through motorsport-related programs in technology, engineering,
and road safety instruction. We look forward to seeing the lucky winner of this completely badass plate with a good
cause attached to it. This also wouldn't be the first time someone spent a casual $800,000 or more on a plate for
their very special Ferrari. (William Hamilton)

Is There Another Supercar That Sounds This Good?
This is one of the most brutal supercars ever sold.
While the Ferrari LaFerrari is the automaker’s star supercar, it's also just another vehicle in a long lineup of insane
vehicles. Back in the mid-2000s, Ferrari created the FXX Evoluzione that could only be used on the track. The
Enzo-based track car utilized a 6.3-liter V12 that made over 800 hp, which was good for a zero to 60 mph of 2.8
seconds and a top speed of 217 mph. Only 30 units were ever produced and this supercar is all natural.
There may be other supercars that are faster, but the FXX Evoluzione makes an amazing sound as it sprints around
the circuit.

Super Limited Edition 2016 Ferrari F12TDF Makes Live Debut at Mugello Circuit
At the recent Finale Mondiali event hosted by Ferrari at the Mugello Circuit, the potent Ferrari F12tdf celebrated its
public debut. On display at the event were both red and yellow examples of the hardcore F12 Berlinetta and
unsurprisingly, both really turned heads despite being surrounded by the likes of the Italian marque’s XX-branded
models.
Powering the F12tdf is the same 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine as the F12 Berlinetta. However, power has
been significantly increased from 719 hp up to 770 hp at 8500 rpm. Meanwhile, torque has been bumped from 509
lb-ft to 520 lb-ft at 6750 rpm with 80 per cent of that peak torque figure available from 2500 rpm.
Thanks to these horsepower and torque gains, the Ferrari F12tdf will accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds
before maxing out a top speed in excess of 340 km/h. In order to boost the engine’s efficiency, Ferrari has drawn on
its Formula One experience. As such, fuel consumption sits at 18.3 mpg with 360 g/km of CO2 emissions being
emitted.
While we’ve yet to see videos of the F12tdf in action, Ferrari has confirmed a Fiorano lap time of just 1:21, which is
two seconds faster than the standard F12 Berlinetta and just 1.3 seconds behind the LaFerrari hypercar.

Customizing King George Barris Paases at 89
Famous Hollywood car customizer George Barris, known for iconic creations like the 1966 Batmobile, has died at
the age of 89.
Barris' son, Brett, announced his father's passing on Facebook, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He wrote:
"Sorry to have to post that my father, legendary kustom car king George Barris, has moved to the bigger garage in
the sky. He passed on peacefully in his sleep at 2:45 am. He was surrounded by his family in the comfort of his
home. He lived his life the way he wanted til the end. He would want everyone to celebrate the passion he had for
life and for what he created for all to enjoy."
Barris and his brother opened Barris Kustoms in Los Angeles after World War II, and the shop's eye-catching work
propelled it to prominence on the SoCal auto scene. While the company created beautiful, highly modified vehicles
for customers, success in the entertainment industry truly made the name famous.
The Batmobile is certainly Barris' most well-known creation, and he sold the iconic car at a Barrett-Jackson auction
for $4.62 million in 2013. Barris Kustoms also produced famous vehicles for a host of shows like The Munsters and
even KITT from Knight Rider. Our condolences go out to his friends and family. (Chris Bruce)

Track Knowledge
Racing Seats and Seating Position
One of the first things to prepare before you even turn the key is a proper seating position. This is often overlooked,
or improperly imitated, resulting in poorer car control and premature fatigue.
If you look at a variety of race cars, you will see a variety of seating positions. In the open-wheel CART and Formula
cars, it appears that the driver is almost lying down with arms fully outstretched (they are not). In a full-bodied
NASCAR-type car, you see the driver more upright and almost cramped against the steering wheel. Neither position
is the correct one for your street car in road racing.
The body of the open-wheel car is very shallow in height, and the cockpit is very narrow. This shape determines
much of the driver's position. The driver's legs are relatively straight out with a slight bend in the knee, and the feet
just barely below the hips. The pedals in many of these cars are almost touching each other. The pedals also
require little more than a flexing of the ankle to go from 0-100% depression. The driver's arms have little room for
movement, but the steering requires extremely little turning input by the driver. In the open-wheel car, function
(driver's seating position and controls operation) follows form (the shallow and narrow cockpit).
In a NASCAR type car, many things are completely opposite. The driver sits very upright, and is very close to the
steering wheel. In fact, the driver can almost lay his whole forearm on the steering wheel. Why the big difference?
The cars themselves are larger, heavier, and have large front tires. Additionally, on even the large speedway triovals, the percentage of time spent turning is much higher than on a road course. All this adds up, and means the
driver's right arm and shoulder is going to get tired much sooner. Sitting upright and close to the steering wheel
allows the driver to utilize more of the shoulder and back muscles.

November 6th, 2015
In driving a street car on a road course, whether the car is stock or fully race-prepared, neither of the above
described seating positions is correct. The seat should not be "laid down" to make you look like a formula driver,
and neither should sit as close as the NASCAR driver.
There are three main aspects to setting the correct seating position. Each of these is described under the
illustrations to the right. In a street car, it is possible that some balanced compromise of these three parameters is
needed as the fixed position of the pedals and steering wheel may not be perfectly matched to your arm and leg
lengths. In a race car, or a street car you spend the money on, the pedal arms can be modified, and a steering
wheel with a specific dish dimension (the depth of the mounting plane to the face of the handling ring) can be
selected to allow a perfect match to your needs.
First, sitting in the seat itself, the driver's back should be flat against the back of the seat with the
buttocks squarely tucked into the corner created at the intersection of the seat back and bottom.
The underside of the legs should be in contact with the seat bottom. The purpose of this position
is to provide as much surface contact between the driver's body and the seat. This has safety
benefits as well as providing the driver with the most tactile feedback as possible.
For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected]
November 6th, 2015
Second is the arm position. When the driver is tightly strapped into the seat as described above,
the arms when fully extended should allow the wrists to rest at the top of the steering wheel. This
allows the arms to be slightly bent at the elbow when fully extended for a turn. The purpose of
this position is to prevent the arms from being overextended during turns (the shoulders should
not need to lift from the seat back even to do a full arm crossover). Overextending the arms will
cause them to tire quickly, and will cause the driver to lose sensitivity to the vibrations in the
steering wheel.
Third is the leg position. When any of the pedals are fully depressed with the ball of the foot on
the pedal (not the toes), the leg should still be bent at the knee. This is to prevent overextension
as described for the arms. Additionally, given that most hobbyists are driving their street cars, be
sure that the knees are not against the under-dash or steering column. In fact, there should be
several inches room to prevent injury in event of a collision. The right leg in particular will need
enough knee room to allow the ball of the foot to be on the brake pedal, and the heel to be on the
gas pedal for heel-toe downshifting.
