A win-win for the tourism industry and business members, the cooperative marketing program offers opportunities to tap into new travel segments, extend the Hilton Head Island brand and build new markets for enhanced tourism. The conference was attended by delegates from over 27 countries around the world, representing industry segments including tourism businesses, community stakeholders, academic institutions and government organizations. Keynote speaker Fabien Cousteau, world-renowned ocean explorer was the keynote speaker for the three-day conference. Dr. emory Campbell delivered the opening plenary, moderated by environmentalist Todd Ballantine, featured above at the opening reception. Attendees enjoyed the eSTC Culinary Showcase. T NOMINATING COMMITTEE PRESENTS 2012 BOARD CANDIDATES he Nominating Committee of the Hilton Head Island–Bluffton Chamber of Commerce has designated a slate of candidates to run for election to the Board of Directors. Terms will commence January 1, 2012 and expire December 31, 2014. As stated in the Chamber’s bylaws, “additional names of candidates for directors may be nominated by petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least ten percent of the voting membership as of September 1 of the current year. Such petition shall be filed with the Nominating Committee within ten (10) days after notice has been given of the names of those nominated.” In keeping with the guidelines set by the bylaws, the petition must contain the genuine signatures of at least 160 qualified members of the Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for additional nominations by petition is 5 p.m., November 11, 2011. Documents may be mailed to Nominating Committee, P.O. Box 5647, Hilton Head Island, SC 29938 or dropped off at the chamber of commerce headquarters. Fax copies cannot be accepted. If no petition is filed within the designated period, the nomination shall be closed and the nominated slate of candidates shall be declared elected by the Board of Directors at its December board meeting. You can easily find them on the chamber website, hiltonheadchamber.org. doINg BUSINESS BETTER $30 million in grants hike exports by small businesses The U.S. Small Business Administration is providing $30 million in grants to states, territories, and the District of Columbia, to help increase exporting by small businesses wiyhin the next year. The grants were authorized by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, under the State Trade and Export Promotion Program. The STEP program provides federal government funding for 65 to75 percent of program costs, with states supplying the remainder. “Sharing responsibilities and resources will help new small exporters across the country enter and succeed in the global market,” said SBA Administrator Karen Mills. — Source: MTBusiness.com THAT’S good AdvICE turning social media into a cost saver Much of the conversation around social media centers on making money.
