2016 - MasterWorks of New Mexico
MasterWorks of New Mexico Celebrates Eighteen Years The MasterWorks of New Mexico Spring Art Show is now in its eighteenth year of exhibition! It began with a unique vision, that of combining the talents and experiences of existing fine arts organizations, each representing artists throughout New Mexico, to sponsor a show of New Mexico's finest art. The charter board of representatives consisted of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the New Mexico Watercolor Society, and Miniature Arts Bardean. During the second year a fourth arts society Rio Grande Art Association was added. It is for oils, acrylics, and mixed media not framed under glass. The societies are always open for new membership but this is not a requirement for entry in MasterWorks. The Spring Show is in fact four separately juried shows, which are hung together after judging and the awarding of ribbons and prizes. Opening Reception 2015 MasterWorks is held in April at Expo New Mexico in the Hispanic Arts Building. Chris Morel lives and paints in the mountains outside of Taos. Inspired by the legacy of great painters of the area, past and present, Morel has found endless inspiration and subject matter close to home. Most recently 12 of Morel's paintings have been chosen to be exclusively featured in the upcoming 2016 New Mexico Magazine Annual Art Calendar published by the magazine. His work has been featured in many art magazines, most recently the March 2015 issue of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. Her mixed media pieces, in particular, reflect an astonishing ability to invoke both mystery and clarity". McCreery has lived in Santa Fe since 1993. She has conducted workshops throughout the United States for the past twenty years and imparts her passion for art to her students while teaching them the solid skills that are at the heart of her own work. She is proficient in oil, acrylic, encaustic, and bronze, and she frequently combines them for maximum effect. California entertainment industry for 20 years, and a professional fine artist. My art training has been mostly in New Mexico with teachers in the area plus several nationally artists/teachers. I am a traditional watercolorist but have worked in a variety of mediums. Since I tend to get bored easily,I enjoy working on my own and I also experiment a lot so no single style can last for long. Currently acrylics and mixed media, semirealistic have my interest. I am a signature member of NMWS, National League of American Pen Women, and Society of Layerists in Mixed Media, and have been in numerous exhibits, local, statewide, and national, and have won many awards. My formal education was in business and I have owned and operated a gallery in Old Town, a wholesale framing supply business and two retail frame shops. Juror Lea Bradovich Lee Bradovich has lived in New Mexico since 1988. She earned her BFA in painting at the University of Minnesota and her MFA at Pratt Institute. More recently she studied realist drawing and painting with Studio Escalier in France and the Ryder Studio in Santa Fe. Her magical realist paintings playfully depict our bonds with the natural world, of insects and bees. Lea exhibits across the country and is represented in private and public collections. Recently she was profiled in the Italian publication Apitalia, Wired Magazine and Chasing Santa Fe. Juror Kim Bell Kim Bell is an Albuquerque native and earned her degree in art from the University of NM. She began her career as an illustrator and graphic artist while pursuing her love of painting NMxs landscapes and people in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil, acrylic and gold leaf illumination. A member of the Miniature Art Society of Florida, she exhibits work in their annual International Miniature Art Show. Shexs received numerous top awards there and as well for her paintings in miniature exhibited in the MasterWorks of NM Art Show. Shexs co-directed workshops in miniature for MWxs and has been a board member for 16 years. Shexs completed work for the Public Art Program of NM and is represented in private collections and the Watermelon Gallery in Cedar Crest. Juror Janice St. Marie Janice St. Marie's formal training as an artist began with outdoor drawing lessons during the summer of her thirteenth year. Though she works primarily in pastel, she also enjoys other mediums such as graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, and acrylic. Inspired by the distinctive light, dramatic skies and alluring landscape of New Mexico, her passion is plein air painting. Janice earned a Fine Arts degree in 1979. She later began a successful graphic design business in Santa Fe where she has lived for 35 years. Janice has shown her work and won awards in many juried exhibitions, including Masterworks of New Mexico's Miniature Division.
