This year on Ash Wednesday, COS will be joining other churches in an outreach to the neighborhood by providing “drive through” ashes from 7:00am to 6:00pm, giving busy people in the area a chance to participate in this Lenten tradition and to learn about the friendly family at COS! Bishop Mariann Budde has written to the clergy through the Diocese asking them to take part in this “Ashes to Go” ministry. Father Harvey and Reverend Hague will be on hand, but in order to facilitate the day (including the noonday Ash Wednesday service), they have asked for volunteers to sign up for 2-hour shifts to help distribute ashes on that day. Sign-up sheets are available today, or you may contact Rev. Jane Hague at [email protected] with any questions or to let her know you’d like to help serve. You can read more about the Ashes to Go movement here: www.ashestogo.org Where was God when…..??? Tragic events like the Newtown shootings, deadly natural disasters, and the attacks on 9/11, as well as other, more personal times of suffering in individual lives and families have challenged believers’ understanding for centuries. Come explore what the season of Lent and the Passion of Christ have to teach us about these mysteries in this year’s Lenten Study. Led by Robert Harvey. On behalf of the Fellowship of the Trees, Don Spicer wants to thank everyone involved with the 56th year of this effort. We had an excellent year, raising $14,610 for the church, the highest total ever! The most we ever raised before was $14,589 in 2008 so we beat that by $21 – the last sale at the lot this year was a very tiny Douglas Fir for $10 and a $20 tree stand so that sale pushed us over the top!! None of this could occur without the help of a large number of folks who pitched in to help set up the tree lot, unload the truck, sell trees, deposit the money, and clean up the lot. As usual, it was a great group to work with. We had 42 members help out with the effort. The total raised by the Fellowship of the Trees since 1998 (that is when Don’s record’s start) is now $190,545. We also want to thank the office staff; particularly Sunny who helped with all of the announcements and along with Robert and other office volunteers sell a few trees over the course of the month. We couldn’t do all of this without everyone’s support. We have listed the names of all those who participated this year – our apologies if we left anyone out or misspelled anyone’s name.
