BILL CLARK
HENRY MCGEE
November 5, 2013 | The Beverly Hilton | Beverly Hills, CA
From the Presidents
W
elcome to the 16th Annual Visionary Awards. We are so pleased you are able to join us
tonight in honoring two outstanding individuals whose ongoing leadership and support
in the fight against AIDS ensures that EAA’s work has meaningful impact each and every
day.
When we began this mission in 1989, we had no idea that we would still be “in business” heading into our
25th year. But the need to fund services for people living with HIV and AIDS, for prevention, education, clinical trials and research marches on and, in the midst of recession and recovery, relies all the more on our
continued success.
In receiving the 2013 Visionary Award, Bill Clark will join a distinguished group of men and women who are
heroes in the cause. Throughout his years at Anchor Bay Entertainment, Bill has consistently supported EAA
through sponsorships, media sales and countless other requests. He is always quick to respond in a positive
way to any requests made of him, and for that we are grateful.
This year marks only the second time in EAA’s history that we’ve recognized an honoree with the Lifetime
Advocate Award. Henry McGee certainly meets and exceeds that rare standard. Whether in business, arts,
cultural or humanitarian pursuits, his contributions are powerful and enduring. If you are fortunate enough to
know Henry personally, you know how well this is reflected in his 34 years of success at HBO, in many years
spent on the boards, as a trustee or in service on an executive committee of many a non-profit over at least
as many years. It’s not so surprising that education is the next platform that he’s chosen to work from. The
students at Harvard Business School are very fortunate to have him. And at EAA, we’re very grateful that
Henry has agreed to continue supporting us as a member of our Honorary Board.
This evening, our thanks go to both Henry and Bill for helping to sustain and improve the lives of literally
hundreds of thousands of people that they will never meet. And for those, like us, who do in fact have the
pleasure of knowing them personally, we express our congratulations and heartfelt appreciation for all that
they’ve done and continue to do.
Most Sincerely,
Vallery Kountze

Henry McGee
Senior Lecturer — Harvard Business School
H
enry McGee is a senior lecturer at Harvard Business School. A
member of the General Management Unit, he teaches the required
MBA course Leadership and Corporate Accountability (LCA). In
addition, he teaches film-based cases in the second-year elective
course The Moral Leader.
Prior to his appointment to the faculty in July 2013, McGee was president
of HBO Home Entertainment, the DVD and digital program distribution
division of Home Box Office, the world’s leading premium television company. HBO Home Entertainment’s extensive catalog includes hundreds of
titles ranging from HBO’s critically acclaimed and groundbreaking series “The
Sopranos” and “Sex and the City” to the epic HBO original miniseries Band of
Brothers and The Pacific. With offices in New York, London and Toronto, the
company’s titles are distributed in more than 70 countries around the globe.
McGee joined HBO in 1979 and was named to the post of president in March 1995.
Under McGee’s direction the company was one of the first in the video industry to use the Internet to expand
its marketing beyond traditional vehicles and in 1995 launched its first website, hbohomevideo.com. In 2006
the company was the first in the world to release television programming in the new Blu-ray high-definition
format. In 2008, the company expanded into selling digital versions of its titles via the Internet and that same
year began utilizing innovative manufacturing-on-demand technology to broaden its number of releases.
The recipient of numerous industry awards for his pioneering use of Internet-based marketing and early adoption of the high-definition format for the company’s releases, McGee was named one of the 50 most powerful
African Americans in the entertainment business by Black Enterprise magazine. He is a former board member of
Quickflix (ASX:QFX), Australia and New Zealand’s only subscription DVD and rental video streaming service.
Since 2004, he has been a director of AmerisourceBergen (NYSE: ABC), one of the nation’s top pharmaceutical service companies and No. 32 on the Fortune 500 list of the biggest corporations in the United States.
He is president of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Foundation, the nation’s largest modern dance organization, and serves on the boards of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Black Filmmaker Foundation. In
the past, McGee has served as a trustee of the Sundance Institute, Radcliffe College, the Harvard Club of New
York City, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the New 42nd Street, the organization overseeing the revitalization and management of seven historic theaters in Times Square.
In 2004 the Harvard Business School African-American Alumni Association honored McGee with its
Professional Achievement Award. That same year McGee also received the Entertainment AIDS Alliance
Visionary Award. McGee was inducted into the Video Hall of Fame, one of the industry’s most prestigious
honors, in 2008.
Before joining HBO, McGee worked for three years as a reporter for Newsweek magazine in its New York
and Washington, DC bureaus. He covered stories in the fields of politics, foreign affairs, education and entertainment and also served as an on-camera reporter for Newsweek Broadcasting.

2013 VISIONARY
Bill Clark
President – Anchor Bay Entertainment
B
ill Clark oversees all aspects of sales, marketing, acquisitions and product development strategy for Anchor Bay Entertainment worldwide. In
late 2010, he negotiated a deal with The Weinstein Company for the
home entertainment distribution rights to their films. The first release
was the 2011 Academy™ Award-winner for Best Picture – The King’s Speech. This
past year, the company released another Academy Award-winner for Best Picture
with Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. The overall agreement includes both
TWC and Dimension titles as well as the successful “Scream,” “Spy Kids” and
“Scary Movie” franchises and new installments in the “Hellraiser,” “Halloween” and
“Children of the Corn” film series.
In 2008, he launched the Anchor Bay Films division, the theatrical unit of Anchor
Bay Entertainment. Since its inception, the company has acquired more than 100
films featuring talent such as Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon, Andy Garcia,
Maria Bello, Al Pacino, Rooney Mara, Christopher Walken, Kim Cattrell, Liam Neeson, Michael Sheen, Justin
Timberlake and Vera Farmiga to name only a few. Under his direction, Anchor Bay Entertainment offers quality distribution with offices in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
In addition to films, the company releases numerous TV on disc titles under Clark’s direction, including all of the Starz
Original Series. Most recently, the company released season three of the award-winning and extremely popular AMC
series “The Walking Dead.” The company also expanded its agreement with AMC to include any new original series by
AMC, IFC and Sundance Channel.
Anchor Bay Entertainment is a category leader in the fitness arena in both the U.S. and Britain. Under Clark’s
direction, the company has many proprietary brands as well as several successful licensed fitness brands. Anchor Bay
is also the distributor of the world’s fastest growing sports organization, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
product. The company is also the category leader in anime in the U.K.
A true veteran in the field of home entertainment, his career spans all aspects of the film, television, video, music,
live theater and interactive/new media businesses but more importantly includes numerous groundbreaking and
innovative strategies, deal structures, business models and operational improvements at each stop along the way.
Clark has been a force in the entertainment industry for over 25 years most recently serving as COO and CFO
of Ventura Entertainment Enterprises. Under his direction, the company was packaged and sold to First Look
Entertainment. Prior to Ventura, he served in several senior management positions including worldwide COO of
Universal Studios Home Entertainment, COO of Spelling Entertainment, COO/CFO Priority Records and SVP
positions for EMI Music and The Walt Disney Studios. In those roles he developed and oversaw a wide array of
new media and digital strategies and initiatives, spearheaded the launch of Universal’s global DVD business and was
responsible for the creation and management of several incremental revenue and business opportunities along with
the revitalization of catalog brands and significant operational efficiencies. He started his entertainment industry
career with CBS and held positions in both its International Record and Broadcasting Operating groups.

Niecy Nash
N
iecy Nash was born and raised in Los Angeles and at the age of
5, she witnessed performances by the actress Lola Falana, which
inspired her to chase her Hollywood dreams. She has since
achieved her dream by becoming an actress, as well as a wife and
a mother of three over the last 17 years. When asked what her hobbies are,
Niecy proudly replies, “motherhood,” which she considers her greatest success in life.
Niecy has hosted and starred in her own Yahoo Web series titled, “Let’s
Talk About Love.” Audiences tuned in each week to listen to her hilarious, no-nonsense perspectives on love, dating and relationships. The series
premiered in October 2011. She also starred in her own reality docu-series
called “Leave It To Niecy,” which debuted in March 2012 on TLC. This
came right after Niecy partnered with TLC in the summer of 2011 to follow
her as she planned the wedding of her dreams to then-fiancé Jay Tucker.
The entire wedding experience aired as a 2-hour television event that over
5 million viewers tuned in to watch. The event was so heartwarming it
inspired the docu-series that shows the blending of two families and the
hilarity that ensues.
In May of 2013 Niecy released her first book, It’s Hard to Fight Naked
through Simon & Schuster. In this hilarious, heartfelt book of no-nonsense
dating and relationship wisdom, Niecy tells it like it is as she invites you to
think differently about traditional norms in hopes of finding the love you
deserve.
Niecy stars in the TV Land series “The Soul Man” opposite Cedric the
Entertainer, and has appeared on an episode on the reality show “Celebrity
Wife Swap” on ABC. Niecy is also a series regular on HBO’s “Getting On,”
which is set to premiere later this year.
Niecy also can be seen starring in two successful TV projects simultaneously: She hosted the Style Network’s #1 rated home makeover show “Clean
House” and was a celebrity panelist on the top-rated CBS entertainment
news program “The Insider.” For her work on “Clean House,” Niecy won a
Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Special Class Special category as
Producer/Host in 2010 and The American Women In Radio & Television
honored Niecy with the 2007 Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Program
Host.
