PARIS VI LOCATED IN THE HEART OF THE 6TH ARRONDISSEMENT OF PARIS, IN THE HEART OF SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS, LE BAUME IS A FOUR-STAR HOTEL WITH 35 COMFORTABLE, ELEGANT ROOMS DECORATED IN A REMIXED 1930S STYLE. All the elegant details of the era are present, including exotic wood veneers, shagreen leather, satin fabrics and shot silk. Telling the story of six fictional characters with six different themes for the interior design, each room has its own feel, with luxurious and contrasting materials. The attention to detail, refinement and quality of the elements used pay homage to the modernity, elegance and positivity of the era. WHY ‘BAUME’? Vicki Baum was an Austrian author during the golden age of Art Deco. After a short career as a concert artist, she began writing and published “Grand Hotel” (1929), “Shanghai Hotel” (1939) and “Berlin Hotel” before leaving Austria for Hollywood, where she became a famous screenwriter. Her stories are constructed in the same way as the story of the hotel, often featuring groups of individuals whose paths cross over the decades. Le Baume pays homage to her work. PARIS VI HENRI CLAUDINE ODETTE — 6 STYLES, 6 CHARACTERS Imagine a group of friends growing up together, and whose paths cross and diverge over the years. Each of them shows a facet of the 1930s, a time when France developed its ‘art de vivre’, and living conditions were comfortable between the two wars. Jewellery, fashion, perfume, design, nightlife and cinema all thrived at this time. Hotel Baume shows 6 different styles, all heavily influenced by the Art Deco period. Discover the story of the BAUME and its characters at: www.a-hotel-a-story.com — THE PERFUME A transition, the ‘space between spaces’ that creates a link between the themes of the rooms. The theme here is perfume — a growth industry in the 1930s — and the olfactory creations of the era. Black, chic and restful, the design is highlighted by textures: ostrich leather, matt and glossy lacquer... The olfactory signature of the hotel is stronger here. Images of perfume from the era guide visitors to the door of their rooms. The design of the doors themselves is inspired by the stopper from a Chanel perfume bottle. PERSONIFIED BY HENRI : SON OF A CHEMIST, HE DISCOVERED HIS PASSION FOR PERFUME AT DROM IN MUNICH WHERE HE CREATED HIS FAVOURITE FRAGRANCE, NEVER COMMERCIALISED: “LE BAUME DU BAUME”. TIRED OF LIFE IN PARIS, HE LATER BECAME A HORTICULTURIST ON THE BANK OF THE MARNE RIVER. SUZANNE JEAN-CHARLES SERGE — FASHION A refined changing room, feminine and elegant. Decorated with shot silk - a fabric that came back into fashion in the 1930s - and original drawings, the rooms with this theme use a variety of greys, pinks and gold. Much like a haute couture fashion house, the seats are upholstered, the lamps reference the ‘bibi’ hats of the era and a mirror with fake feathers evokes creations by Schiaparelli. PERSONIFIED BY CLAUDINE : CLAUDINE WAS A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN WITH A LARGE BIRTHMARK ON HER CHEEK. HER REMARKABLE SPORTSWOMAN’S BODY ALLOWED HER TO BECOME THE MODEL FOR THE SCANDALE BRAND OF GIRDLES WHERE SHOWING HER FACE WAS NOT NECESSARY. — JEWELLERY Chic and slightly flashy. This theme is characterised by wallpaper that looks much like golden corrugated iron, mirrors that explode into a thousand pearls and necklace wall lights. The side tables use rings as structural elements and delicate jewellery is shown in display cases, much like a jewellery store window. PERSONIFIED BY ODETTE : ODETTE, A FANCIFUL WOMAN, WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT JEWELLERY AND INDEED HAD QUITE A LARGE COLLECTION OF IT. SHE MANAGED TO MARRY THE LOVE OF HER LIFE CHARLES, BUT THEIR UNION WAS NOT A HAPPY ONE, AND SHE SPENT THE END OF HER LIFE LIVING IN A LUXURY HOTEL ON THE CÔTE D’AZUR IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE. — CINEMA The transition from black and white to colour on a movie set. We start with stars of the silver screen in black and white, shown in profile and framed. Then colour creeps in, with touches of beige, grey and pink. The wallpaper references spools of film, the mirrors are inspired by slide images and the lamps evoke studio lighting. PERSONIFIED BY SUZANNE : SUZANNE DREAMED OF BEING IN THE THEATRE. SHE LIVED AT THE HOTEL SAINT SULPICE (NOW THE HOTEL BAUME) WHICH WAS THEN OWNED BY HER PARENTS. ONE DAY IN THE LUXEMBOURG GARDENS SHE MET AN AMERICAN WOMAN WHO HIRED HER AS THE NANNY TO HER CHILDREN, AND TOOK HER BACK TO THE UNITED STATES. BECAUSE OF HER RESEMBLANCE TO NORMA SHEARER, YVONNE BECAME THE ACTRESS’ DOUBLE IN GEORGE CUKOR’S FILM «LITTLE WOMEN». HER NICKNAME IN THE GROUP WAS BAUM. — ARCHITECTURE A strong graphic style, contrasting and modern. Art Deco evolved and found a new energy in the United States. The walls of these rooms are decorated with wallpaper reminiscent of the spire of the Chrysler Building, the seating is leather and the furniture and lighting are the work of designers who have made their mark on history. Geometric lines can be found in the curtains. PERSONIFIED BY JEAN-CHARLES : SON OF A VERY WEALTHY FAMILY THAT LIVED NEAR THE LUXEMBOURG GARDENS, CHARLES DREAMED OF BECOMING AN ARCHITECT AND BUILDING THE VILLA BAUME, BEFORE HIS DREAMS WERE DASHED BY THE WALL STREET CRASH OF 1929. — THE CLUB Like visiting one of the cosy nightspots of the Roaring Twenties. Back in the days, people would stay out all night, dancing and drinking in clubs with overstitched fabrics and contrasting exotic wood veneers. Blue, orange and camel browns reinvent a chic, masculine atmosphere, with photos and certain details bringing to mind the golden years of the clubs of Shanghai. PERSONIFIED BY SERGE : SERGE WAS THE MOST HAND SOME OF THE GROUP. HE WAS A PARTY ANIMAL WHO BECAME FRIENDS WITH JOSÉPHINE BAKER AND PARTFINANCED HER ‘REVUE NÈGRE’. HE EVENTUALLY LEFT TO LIVE IN SHANGHAI, WHERE HE BECAME MANAGER OF A LARGE HOTEL. These 6 themes can be found on all floors of the Hotel Baume and all categories of room. Available in 6 categories, the 35 rooms of the Hotel Baume all have the same high quality furnishings. The room size is the main difference. THE INTERIOR DESIGNERS Hotel Baume owes its atmosphere to Exclusive Interiors by T&T, an interior design agency founded by Thibaut Fron and Thierry Martin. — THE LOBBY One of their strong points is mixing genres to create interiors that are 100% exclusive. Specialising in interior design and decoration, as well as furniture design, Exclusive Interiors by T&T adapts to each project. In this case, Thibaut and Thierry took the stories of our six characters and used them to create the 6 room styles found in Le Baume. With a style all of its own, the lobby uses two of the elements employed in the rooms - exotic wood veneers that remind one of the clubs of the time, and jewellery-influenced wall lamps that bring to mind the opulent creations of the 1930s. The tones of grey and mustard give a new twist to the interior decoration of the times, married with touches of shagreen leather typical of the period. The shape of the furniture is inspired by the era, but with today’s modernity and comfort. « Some objects were found in antique shops or flea markets, like the compacts displayed in the lobby. The jewellery in the table displays of the Jewellery rooms is the work of Anna Rivka. The engravings in the Fashion rooms are originals from the 1932 collection by the maison Pernet, by M me Jeannest. Some vases are influenced by Egypt, a popular theme of the time. » — LOCATION — THE ROOMS The Hotel Baume is the ideal starting point for: The Unique • Size: 14m² room, plus a 20m² planted patio • View: The patio Suite with Terrace The Work and Pleasure • Size: 30 m2 • View: The patio Duplex • Size: 26m² • View: The roofs of Paris and the patio • • • • A jog in the Luxembourg Gardens Admiring the dome of the Pantheon Shopping on boulevard Saint Germain Tasting cakes and macaroons from the most famous Parisian pastry chefs • Admiring the nearby art galleries and antique shops • Sitting down for tea in some of the most famous, chic cafés in the capital, such as Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots • Wandering through the Musée d’Orsay surrounded by exquisite impressionist paintings — THE ROOMS ALL HAVE: • A desk • A safe for valuables • Internet access is available in all rooms via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, allowing several devices to be connected at the same time. • And a view of the theatre and/or interior courtyard — THE BATHROOMS ARE EQUIPPED WITH: • A bathtub or Italian-style shower • A hair dryer and towel warmer • Personalised, luxury toiletries (the “Baume du Baume”) • Bathrobes and slippers. « Ideal for business meetings, workshops, interviews, showrooms and photo shoots Can be transformed from a Junior Suite into a large private lounge!
