The original Kilner jar, first invented by John Kilner
and Co in the 1840s in England, is as much-loved
and successful now as it was 170 years ago.
His pioneering son, Caleb Kilner, went on to develop
and trademark the world’s first two-piece screwtopped, rubber-sealed jar as a way of preserving food
in the 1890s. This closure mechanism is now the
foundation of the Kilner preserve jars’ unique pressure
seal to which the brand owes its long-lasting popularity.
Put simply, households all over the world trust
it to successfully preserve and pickle their fruit
and vegetables. In the 1900s, Kilner presented its
innovation as ‘the original and the best, all other brands
are substitutes’, a claim which remains as relevant

Kilner vintage preserve JARS
The new Kilner vintage preserve jars are must-haves for any preserve lover, whether a beginner or at
a more advanced level.
Designed by Kilner with an vertically-ribbed vintage styling on the exterior, each jar features an
silver-coloured easy-to-use metal screw top lid made up of two pieces; a replaceable vacuum seal, and
