We are now in the fall season and starting to see all those wonderful colors that autumn brings. This has always been one of my favorite times of the year with the yellow, orange and rust colors to decorate with and cooking lots of comfort foods. Also, I'm looking forward to the Holidays especially Christmas; it is just around the corner..... time to start thinking about your family and friends with all your family traditions or even creating new ones with your Corvette friends too. After months of looking for a volunteer to continue in the position of our LVCA webmaster and recognizing that Pat Russell wanted to step down after 8 years of service to the club. I'm happy to inform all of you that we have a volunteer. Thank you Mike Frizzell for volunteering and stepping up to be our new webmaster. Also, thank you Pat Russell for all your time and many hours serving as our webmaster. Last month, we participated in collecting items to donate to the Animal Foundation. On Saturday, September 17th the board had the opportunity to meet at Julie Cantonwine's home to pick up our donations and deliver them to the animal shelter. LVCA truly made an impression; they were so excited to receive all of our donations. Thank you LVCA for donating, it was very much appreciated. Also, thank you Julie for organizing this community service. So far this year we've had 10 (CS) events. Way to go LVCA! If you haven't had the opportunity to earn 5 points to receive your 2016 community service pin at the Banquet in January, it's not too late. You still have time to earn points with 8 more community service events scheduled. On Saturday, November 12th, is a "Membership Appreciation" event planned by the Mossybacks of LVCA. The event is "Brunch in the Park" and it is a "FREE" event to all members. There will be lots of fun activities along with food and games. Pet Drive September 8, 2016 By Julie Cantonwine Photos by Jimmy Cavallo For the animals in shelters Christmas is just another day. But when they want something to play with or a nice bed to lay on, Christmas can be any day. In this case, it was September 17th• After requesting donations from The Animal Foundation's wish list provided at the August membership meeting, the Animal Foundation was "overwhelmed" with the amount of items donated. We had a total of six Corvettes meet at my house to load up and drove the short distance to the shelter as they wanted several cars for the pictures they will be posting on their Facebook page. They kept saying "there is so much stuff' and what a great variety as well. Although Jimmy Cavallo had to give up his (bed) we are certain it will be put to good use. Thank you to everyone who donated and to those who helped in making the delivery. I couldn't have done it without you. Look forward to doing this very worthy donation drive again next year. 15 Tuacahn Amphitheatre hospitality suite to turn in their rally sheets and scavenger hunt items. Of course, everyone enjoyed some adult beverages and snacks until it was time to board the bus to St. George to see “Tarzan” at the Tuacahn outdoor theater. September 10-11 By Denise Karpa Photos by Pat Russell, Ken Ackeret & Kathy Clapp On Saturday, September 10th, a group of 28 came together to enjoy a very fun weekend in Mesquite and St. George, Utah. We started the trip at the speedway with a rally and scavenger hunt to benefit St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, which was put together by Kathy Clapp and Ken Ackeret. The participants needed to identify things during the drive to the Casablanca Hotel & Casino in Mesquite as well as find items upon their arrival at the hotel. I’m sure everyone who participated appreciated the effort put into this rally to make it both fun and challenging After a nice lunch, the group checked into their hotel rooms and then gathered at the 16 Water rushed the stage and Tarzan and Jane flew over the audience…some things you can only see at an outdoor theater! The weather was perfect to be outside under the stars, among the red rocks, enjoying a fun show. I would like to recognize that Jim Ranney has not missed a Tuacahn run since the club has been doing the trip, and I know he enjoyed all of them! Mike and Claudette Frizzell put together a fun game to pass the time on our way to the show. Keeping with the Tarzan theme, the game was animal alphabet, and everyone had 20 minutes to write down an animal for each letter of the alphabet (no Google allowed)! As you can see from the picture, everyone put their thinking caps on and found out this was a challenging game. The winners will be announced at the October meeting, along with the winners of the rally. After arriving back at the Casablanca, we enjoyed some more time in the hospitality suite before calling it an evening. Everyone met for a buffet breakfast on Sunday morning (the mimosas were good), and a few stayed over an extra night to enjoy some spa treatments and a great dinner at Katherine’s. It was the perfect end to a great weekend of We soon arrived at Tuacahn just as the games, fun conversation with friends, a great sun was setting. Since this was a Disney show, and we raised money for St. Jude’s! production, the costumes and special effects were very professional as were the actors. 17 18 19 20 There will be 2 more RE MTT events later in the year, on Oct 16th and Nov 20th with both out at LVMS. Come on out and join us to compete, to watch, or go for a ride. See you there. MTT Autocross September 25, 2016 By Marvin Maize Photos by Skip Kelley & Lanny Lowman All we knew was that this autocross was out at the Speedway and that it might be at the Bullring Parking Lot. When that proved not to be the location I then headed for the Metro Training Lot. There it was but they were not even using a large part of the south end of the lot. Thought this seemed strange. We had been running night events with the SCCA at the Silverton where the lot was small but had lights and every bit of the lot was used. This metro lot had previously been divided with concrete barriers but was now wide open. This northeast end was wider. The remaining lot we were using, was huge. It is a great lot with a long flowing course. The length definitely became very obvious when walking the course. Entrants were back in force from SCCA for this first event going back to daytime. There had been 80 pre-registered entries compared to 36 at the last night event. Turns out there were 117 participants with four Racers Edge entries. Besides longer this was a much faster course. It was hard to remember the entire layout and it was easy to overlook turn in points. With the number of entries we were back to 3 run groups. I ran in the second run group and the rest of the RE drivers ran in the third run group. In other words there was a long time from when the coarse was walked till we were able to run, so it was a real test. We had a good cross section of Corvettes. We had Skip's '67 C2, my '92 C4, Lanny's '07 Z06 C6 and Rick's beautiful new silver Z06 C7. We each had 3 runs in the morning and 3 more runs in the afternoon. With the number of entries it was an all day event. Again the spread between the best MTT times was very close.
