The design is imprinted onto a fabric using a traditional method. Woollen threads are dyed to Zaida’s specification using natural dyes where possible. These threads are stitched in chainstitch by hand onto the cotton fabric and a cotton backing is then applied. Best quality wool and cotton are used and the natural dyes are fast. That’s why all our products are washable as wool, even in the washing machine. It is recommended that non-biological detergents are used a perfect example of east meeting west in the best possible ways and that the product is dried flat. It should also not be placed in direct sunlight as this may cause fading of the natural dyes. Eastern traditional methods – Western contemporary design Kashmir is the North-Western most state of India. Kashmir’s many crafts reflect the state’s history, landscape and traditional way of life. Zaida respects these traditional values and the skills of the craftsmen who produce the finest quality chainstitch needlework in rugs cushions accessories the world. At Zaida these skills are used to produce contemporary and abstract designs, many influenced by the work of European artists. Respect for the products and those who produce them All Zaida products are made by adults who, as co-operatives , set their own rates for the work they do. At no stage in production are children involved. Work is not carried out in a factory environment, rather, within their own homes as a cottage industry. Bespoke service Zaida cushion covers and rugs should last for a very long time. We are constantly developing new designs and can also produce rugs to your own design and specifications. The craftsmen are generally inspired by traditional designs and their own environment - flowers, birds and animals are the main features. Zaida have added their own Christmas designs to this mix.
