CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
WHERE A REST IS AS GOOD
AS AN ADVENTURE
WHO ARE OUR
HOLIDAYS FOR?
YOU SET THE PACE…
WE DO THE REST
Families, couples, friends,
solo travellers… anyone who’s
healthy fit who loves to peddle
or potter. Whether you simply
want to enjoy some easy riding
with your children, or a quicker
pace with your oldest friends,
the route will cater for it.
Forget tight schedules and daily distance targets - we’ve
designed our tours to let you explore at your own pace.
As well as beautiful, diverse scenery, each of our destinations
has been chosen for its other delights, including quaint
villages, historical monuments, sports activities and, of
course, delicious food and drink. And, because we take care
of all the details - from arranging flights, hotels and transfers,
to providing suggested route maps and transporting your
luggage from hotel to hotel - you can travel easy, with
nothing weighing you (or your bike) down.
We think the best way to explore some of Europe’s most beautiful spots
is in the saddle - or on your feet. It’s about feeling the wind in your hair,
whether that’s freewheeling down a lovely, long descent, or taking in
the epic view at the top of a mountain you’ve just walked up. But there’s
more to life than getting your heart rate up, which is why our cycling and
walking holidays can be as restful as they are adventurous.

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DELICIOUS FOOD
The best thing about all that lovely exercise? It’s a great excuse to
enjoy fabulous local cuisine every day - and there’s a huge amount
of it across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Croatia.
Whether it’s cherry strudel in Austria, chargrilled sardines in Istria, or
sauerkraut and sausages in Bavaria, dining out is a treat wherever you
are. Or, if you’re picnicking in a meadow somewhere instead, even the
deli selection in the local village shop is enough to make your mouth
water. And did we mention the Tuscan wine and German Weissbier?
Two to three weeks before your holiday, we’ll send you your
travel documents and a comprehensive information pack
of daily maps highlighted with our suggested routes and
instructions. Because there’s plenty of time built in to each
itinerary, you’re now free to explore at your own pace each
day. Stop in a cornfield for a picnic. Wander around an ancient
castle. Nip into that tempting patisserie for millefeuille...
TRAVEL MADE EASY
The route, and all it has to offer, is the most important
thing. We don’t think travel logistics and flight times should
determine your holiday - which is why you’ll start the route
in one spot and end it somewhere completely different after all, who wants to go round in a circle? With our staff on
hand throughout your holiday to transfer your luggage by
mini-bus from hotel to hotel, it’s easy all the way. For those
on cycling holidays, our bicycles come equipped with a rack
and pannier bag, for anything you may need during the day.
We recommend that walkers bring a small daypack.
FLYING
Getting to your holiday destination couldn’t be simpler. We offer
scheduled flights with numerous airlines from around 15 UK departure
airports - so wherever you live, we can arrange the most convenient
flights for you. And, because we tailor your itinerary to your needs, if
you want to, you can extend your stay before or after your holiday.
Once you’ve arrived in Europe, a BSpoke representative will meet you
and you will be driven to your base hotel by minibus. Those arriving
by air from a country other than the UK, may also be able to join our
normal airport-to-hotel transfer.
DRIVING
If you’re driving to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France or
Croatia, we provide detailed instructions on how to find your base
hotel, where you’ll find ample safe parking. At the end of your holiday,
we arrange transport back to your starting point to pick up your car.
We can also arrange your Channel crossing.
TRAVELLING INDEPENDENTLY
For those arriving under their own steam, we provide information on
how to find your base hotel using public transport. As you’ve made
your own travel arrangements, you’ll also qualify for a price reduction please refer to the price details on our website: www.bspoketours.com.
FINANCIAL PROTECTION
BSPOKE BY NAME…
Most of our holidays are available in two formats: BSpoke
Original (two-night stays at each hotel, moving on alternate
days), and BSpoke One Night Stops (two nights in your first
hotel, followed by just one night in each subsequent hotel,
for those who want to complete a distance every day). But
nothing is set in stone. If you decide you’d like a longer stay
somewhere, or extra time built in to visit something off route,
just tell us - we’ll do our best to tailor your holiday to suit.
We have in place financial security arrangements which
guarantee your complete protection while on holiday with
us. BSpoke Tours is a trading division of Ski Solutions Ltd
who hold an ATOL Licence issued by the Civil Aviation
Authority (ATOL number 4055). We are also a member of
the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA number
C6711). Please see our booking conditions for more
information about what this means for you.

LOCATIONS
LOCATIONS
Towering peaks, plunging valleys. Winding rivers, shimmering lakes.
Quiet country lanes, scenic mountain-top paths. Historic towns and cities,
and quaint little villages. Europe has it all - and we’ve sought out the best spots with the biggest views, and
the most interesting routes with joyful descents. Whether it’s stopping for a Stein in Bavaria, a swim in Istria,
or a spot of sunbathing in a Tuscan meadow, there’s plenty to see and do both in and out of the saddle.
FRANCE
Cradled by the Vosges Mountains and the River
Rhine, the Alsace in France occupies a narrow ribbon
stretching from the Swiss border in the south to
the German border just to the north of Strasbourg.
Sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, the province
enjoys a semi-continental climate with hot summers
and long warm autumns - ideal for market gardeners,
wine growers and holidaymakers alike.
BEST BITS
• Medieval villages are strewn across a gorgeous
landscape, with half-timbered houses cascading
geraniums and petunias from every window box
• South-facing slopes host row upon row of
carefully manicured vines, producing exceptional
wines from a diverse variety of grapes
SWITZERLAND
In the northeast is Appenzellerland, a beautiful soft landscape of Alpine meadows
beneath towering jagged peaks. To the north, the countryside gently undulates towards
the shores of Lake Constance. In the south-western corner of the country, stunning
lakeside scenery also dominates the landscape, where Medieval villages cling to
the vertiginous hillside, and elegant resorts line the fashionable Swiss Riviera. With
stable periods of warm sunshine occasionally interrupted by evening thunderstorms,
temperatures during the summer are generally slightly higher here than in the UK.
BEST BITS
• Fairytale villages of colourful wooden houses populate the valleys of
Appenzellerland - and the pride of the region is the wonderful Appenzeller cheese
• Dotted along the coast of Lake Constance are charming fishing villages and
chic resorts
• The majestic peaks of the Alps and Swiss Jura Mountains are reflected in the tranquil
waters of Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Murten and Lake Genèva - great for bathing

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
GERMANY & AUSTRIA
LOCATIONS
Here, you’re surrounded by snow-capped peaks, rolling green meadows, crystal clear lakes and
babbling brooks. Potter around chocolate-box villages and historic old towns, meet friendly
people and enjoy hearty local cuisine. Long periods of sunshine are punctuated by occasional
evening thunderstorms, making for spectacular mountain views.
BEST BITS
• Spotting Bavarians and Austrians adorned in their traditional costume
• Bavaria’s majestic Oberbayern region, including the hidden gem of Allgäu
• The Tyrol’s stunning alpine peaks, and deep blue lakes you can swim in
• No fewer than 1300 spring-fed lakes in Carinthia, reaching 27ºC in the summer
CROATIA
Up in the north of Croatia lies the gorgeous region of Istria.
Inland, the landscape is made up of unspoilt countryside, lush
evergreen forests and charming hilltop towns, while carefully
tended vineyards produce some excellent local wines. Expect
beautifully sunny days and mild evenings in the summer months.
BEST BITS
• Spectacular coastline scenery, with winding paths leading past
small, pebbled beaches and tree-lined bays. Medieval towns
built around picturesque harbours, their red-roofed houses and
imposing churches lining narrow, cobbled streets
• Excellent local wines from the carefully tended vineyards
• The exquisitely clear waters along the Istrian coast - perfect for a
cooling dip
ITALY
Renowned for its fresh and zingy Mediterranean flavours,
Italy is a taste sensation wherever you go. In Tuscany you
can meander down one empty farm road after another,
through undulating hills and meadows, stopping in rustic
little villages for a tasty lunch and a glass of wine. South
Tyrol, Italy’s northernmost province, strikes a different pose,
with the dramatic Dolomites towering above. Throughout
the year, the climate in Tuscany is mild with minimal rain
during long, hot summers, while in the Dolomites the
summer climate is perfect for growing grapes.
BEST BITS
• Lovely vineyards on the rolling hills of Tuscany, bounded
by lines of cypress trees
• Great for cyclists, quiet lanes and ‘Strada Bianchi’
crisscross the countryside, linking magnificent medieval
towns and villages
• Plenty of mysterious churches and ancient Etruscan sites
• Fantastic wine in South Tyrol - best served with roast
sweet chestnuts and speck

BSPOKE CYCLING HOLIDAYS
ALL OF THE PLEASURE...
We take out all the tough bits - from contemplating
steep climbs to carrying heavy loads. Our routes
are the result of detailed, first-hand research - so
you can enjoy the quiet cycle paths and woodland
trails that lead you off the beaten track and around
any big hills. As for the heavy load - we’ll carry it for
you. Our rep is on hand to transfer your luggage
between hotels, provide bike support if needed,
and share their local knowledge.

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
SUITABLE FOR ALL
LEVELS OF FITNESS
You could be a family with small
children, a couple without much
cycling experience, or a group of
friends who’ve been cycling together
for 50 years. Anyone who is healthy
and can ride a bike will enjoy our
holidays. We try particularly hard to
cater for children, so the whole family
can cycle together.
Freewheeling down glorious, cruising descents,
peddling gently along quiet lanes through undulating
countryside, meandering through the trees on
forest pathways... as cyclists ourselves, we know how
wonderful the sensation of riding in the great outdoors
can be. But rather than dreaming of Tour de France
glory, we prefer to potter at a completely different
pace. This is why our cycling holidays are designed to
be as relaxing as they are invigorating...
BICYCLES THAT
CATER FOR EVERYONE
After thorough testing, for most of our tours we have
decided upon the Sonoran, a Dawes top-of-the-range
trekking bike. The bicycle is perfectly suited to the
terrain encountered, designed for both roads and tracks.
It combines lightness with robust dependability and features
24 gears, comfortable sprung saddle, mudguards, rear
carrier, pannier bag, and chain guard. For two of our tours,
Tuscany and Croatia, we now offer top quality mountain
bikes from Giant. These are also equipped with rear carrier
and pannier bag.
We also have limited numbers of Dawes mountain bike
tandems and electric bicycles from Giant and Ansmann.
The electric bicycle will help you ride up hills with ease and
enable you to keep going longer and further with minimal
effort. Tandems and electric bicycles may be booked on a
first-come, first served basis for a small supplement. All our
electric bicycles are supplied with plenty of battery power to
ensure they keep going all day.
CYCLING WITH CHILDREN
We have a range of lightweight bicycles for the over 8s,
and for infants and toddlers under 5 we have the latest
in child-seats from Kettler (probably the safest and most
comfortable on the market). For children aged between 4
and 10, we also have top-of-the range Burley trailer bikes
which attach to the back of an adult bicycle and effectively
transform it into a tandem, where little ones can pedal but
the adult retains complete control of the bicycle.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
ONE NIGHT OR TWO?
We’ll provide bicycles fitted to
ensure they’re height-appropriate
with panniers and a puncture
repair kit. We don’t provide
helmets, as we find most of our
guests prefer to bring their own.
However, we can arrange helmet
hire for you if desired.
Most of our holidays are available
in two formats: BSpoke Original
(two-night stays at each hotel, moving
on alternate days), and BSpoke One
Night Stops (two nights in your first
hotel, followed by just one night in
each subsequent hotel, for those who
want to cycle a distance every day).

ROMANTIC CASTLES
IF YOU’RE
FEELING PECKISH
(AND EVEN IF YOU’RE
NOT), MAKE SURE YOU
TRY A TASTY SLICE OF
APFELSTRUDEL IN
GARMISCH.
Discover Bavaria’s secrets while freewheeling
via pine forests, magnificent lakes and alpine
scenery, including Germany’s highest peak.
Spa towns, beer-brewing monasteries, fairytale
castles... Bavaria will surprise you at every twist
and turn - and our mid-September departure
dates offer the chance to enjoy Oktoberfest, too.
13 OR 9 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Munich airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Lenggries.
DAY 2 Lenggries. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The rest of the day is yours to explore
and enjoy Lenggries and the surrounding countryside.
An excellent ski resort in winter; by summer Lenggries
is a popular mountain walking centre. Situated on the
Isar Valley, majestic mountains rise up on all sides;
easily accessible by foot and cable car, with many
splendid walks to choose from. For those who wish to
make an excursion by bicycle, there are plenty of paths
and quiet lanes that wind along both sides of the valley.
Just a few miles to the north is the picturesque spa
town of Bad Tölz; a beautiful cobbled old town that’s
well worth a visit. Munich is also easy to reach, just a
short train ride away.
10
For those who love big mountain views, lush valleys,
long winding descents, majestic castles and a tasty
Stein of best Bavarian beer to wash it all down.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 3 Lenggries to Kochel: 20 miles (32km).
Cycling out of Lenggries you branch away from the
River Isar and follow a tributary, the Jachen. This wide,
lush green valley rises gently to one of Bavaria’s jewels,
Lake Walchen. A short climb from the lakeside is
rewarded by a long, winding descent to Kochel, a
town oozing with Bavarian charm.
DAY 4 Kochel. The town of Kochel lies on the shores
of one of Bavaria’s most pleasant bathing lakes: the
Kochelsee. To the north extends a flat moorland plain,
crisscrossed by cycle tracks. On the eastern edge of
the plain lies Benediktbeuern Monastery, originally
founded in the 8th century. The remarkable architecture
and lavish decorations, with a strong Italian influence,
provide an attractive focus for a day out cycling. To the
south, the Alps rear up steeply, offering a huge variety
of interesting day walks. The nearby Herzogstand and
Jochberg Mountains are easily climbed in a day and
will reward you with spectacular views.
DAY 5 Kochel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen: 22 miles
(35km). Your route today follows the River Loisach
along its broad glaciated valley. Nearing Garmisch you
will enjoy even more fabulous views of the towering
Alps which form the backdrop for this popular resort.
DAY 6 Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Lying in an open
mountain basin, Garmisch sits beneath Germany’s
highest peak, the Zugspitze. For those keen to be
active there are a huge variety of walks, bike rides and
enticing lakes in the area. Excellent shops, restaurants and
cafés will encourage you to spend your day in the town,
while panoramic views of the Alps may tempt you to take a
cable car to the Zugspitze summit.
DAY 7 Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Neuschwanstein:
28 miles (45km). Much of today is spent in Austria. Leaving
Garmisch you head to the Austrian border post at Griesen,
where a forest track leads you to the Plan Lake, a narrow
strip of crystal clear water, cradled by wooded slopes. From
here you pedal through some magnificent Tyrolean scenery
before crossing back into Germany at Neuschwanstein.
DAY 8 Neuschwanstein. Just minutes from your hotel lies
the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein. The most renowned
of ‘Mad King’ Ludwig’s creations is set amongst towering
peaks, making it one of Germany’s most striking images.
DAY 9 Neuschwanstein to Oberammergau: 24 miles
(38km). After a gentle morning meandering down the
Lech Valley you will head way off the beaten track, on roads
reserved for the local farmers. A splendid highlight to this
peaceful day is the ornate Wies Church, accepted as the
finest example of Rococo art in Southern Germany.
DAY 10 Oberammergau. A charming picture postcard
village whose inhabitants present a Passion play every 10
years in thanks for being spared the ravages of the plague
in 1634. The village is also home to Bavaria’s wood-carving

for a final adventure on the bike. We suggest a route to

CYCLING HOLIDAYS
LUDWIG’S VERSAILLES
AND MOZART’S SALZBURG
HUNGRY?
HEAD TO THE
GOLDEN BEAR IN
BERCHTESGADEN FOR
THE BIGGEST SLAB OF
ROAST PORK YOU’LL
EVER ATTEMPT
TO EAT.
From the cobbled streets of fairytale towns
dating back to the Middle Ages, to the famous
castles and museums of Mozart’s hometown, this
region is an ode to history, culture and passion.
Rolling farmland, pretty rural villages, sunny
meadows and shady green forests are the order
of the day, all with a dramatic alpine backdrop.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Munich airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Wasserburg.
DAY 2 Wasserburg. After breakfast you’ll be
equipped with your bicycle. You are then free to
explore Wasserburg and the surrounding countryside.
Situated on a promontory, encircled by a loop in the
River Inn, Wasserburg dates back to the Middle Ages,
its narrow cobbled streets and high façades conjuring
vivid images of fairy tales. The town is very atmospheric
with a wealth of historic buildings, museums, pavement
cafés and Keller bars. Set in rolling farmland, dotted
with pretty rural villages, the area provides an excellent
introduction to cycling in Bavaria. On the outskirts of
the town is a large swimming pool complex with water
slides and every other facility imaginable.
12
From Keller bars and crazy castles to
winding rivers and shimmering lakes...
a magical mountain history tour awaits.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 3 Wasserburg to Prien: 20 miles (32km).
Peaceful lanes and immaculately maintained tracks
weave their way through sun-drenched meadows and
shady green forests, with the snow-capped blue of the
Alps rising out of the horizon as you head south-east
to Prien.
DAY 4 Prien. Lying on the shores of Bavaria’s largest
lake, the Chiemsee, Prien is in the heart of Germany’s
Riviera. The views across the lake are spectacular:
colourful yachts follow their leisurely course between
the two famous islands, framed by a majestic
mountainous backdrop. An old paddle steamer
operates as a ferry to the islands. The Herreninsel is
home to Schloss Herrenchiemsee, built by ‘Mad King
Ludwig’ between 1878 and 1885. The palace is set
in magnificent gardens, and is a remarkable copy of
Versailles. The Fraueninsel, a much smaller island, has
a charming fishing village and a Benedictine monastery
dating from the 13th century.
DAY 5 Prien to Inzell: 26 miles (42km).
Closer to the Alps now, the scenery becomes more
dramatic. The route skirts the Chiemsee and then
heads across a flat plain to Siegsdorf, a charming
village nestling in a cradle of high peaks. The final few
miles to Inzell follow a pretty path along the Rote Traun
Valley, formerly a salt-traders route.
DAY 6 Inzell. A popular ski resort in winter, Inzell becomes a
mountain walking centre in summer. The surrounding area
is breathtakingly beautiful, with lofty peaks all around.
A vast network of tracks and paths lead into the mountains,
many accessible by bike. We have discovered two excellent
round-trip cycle rides through the mountains, as detailed in
your information pack.
DAY 7 Inzell to Berchtesgaden: 22 miles (35km).
The route follows narrow, steeply-sided valleys passing
through picture-postcard villages and the famous resort of
Bad Reichenhall. Unforgettable view after view will keep
your cameras clicking.
DAY 8 Berchtesgaden. This bustling tourist town has a
huge variety of attractions to offer. A guided tour of the
local salt mines includes dressing up in miner’s clothing
and crossing an illuminated subterranean lake on a raft.
Other sights to see are the Königsee - a scenic mountain
lake; the Eagle’s Nest - Hitler’s alpine retreat; Berchtesgaden
Castle, situated in the centre of the town; and the church
at Ramsau, probably the most photographed church
in Germany.
DAY 9 Berchtesgaden to Salzburg: 26 miles (42km).
A pleasant morning’s ride as you watch the mountains
slowly recede and the valleys gradually widen. The farmers
are once again able to impose their will on the land,
painting the countryside with golden wheatfields and lush

DAY 10 Salzburg. Your hotel is located right
at the heart of Salzburg old town on a quiet
semi-pedestrianised street. There are countless
things to see and do in Mozart’s birthplace:
castles, museums, cafés and gardens will all
compete for your attention. For those wishing
to explore beyond the city, we suggest following
the traffic-free cycle routes along the banks of

DELICIOUS.
Cycling through rolling alpine meadows, beside
crystal clear lakes, majestic mountains and dense
pine forests, you’ll encounter a series of idyllic
hamlets and villages where the excellent Gasthofs
exude Bavarian charm and hospitality. Best of
all, a ride through the broad glaciated Leutasch
Valley is a truly breathtaking experience.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Munich airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Spitzingsee.
DAY 2 Spitzingsee. After breakfast you’ll be
equipped with your bicycle. You are then free to
explore. Surrounded by spectacular peaks, Spitzingsee
lies on the shores of a crystal clear lake bearing the
same name. Gondola lifts reach into the mountains on
either side and a network of tracks and paths create a
ramblers’ paradise. Our suggested cycle ride is a little
more strenuous than we would normally recommend
on the first day, but it is a truly spectacular tour. The
route descends to the valley below, before passing
through Bayrischzell, one of Bavaria’s most beautiful
villages. The height is then gradually regained by
climbing a small saddle on a glorious mountain track.
DAY 3 Spitzingsee to Kreuth: 18 miles (29km).
A narrow lane closed to normal traffic follows the Rote
Valepp River south through a mixture of rolling alpine

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
meadows and dense pine forest. The other branch
of the Valepp River, the Weisse Valepp, joins from
the west and the route turns upstream to the pretty
lakeside resort, Rottach-Egern. Enjoying a wonderful
location on the southern shores of one of Bavaria’s
most picturesque lakes, the Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern
is endowed with a vast array of elegant cafés and
restaurants. Kreuth lies just a few miles to the south,
along the Weissach Valley.
DAY 4 Kreuth. A small village, Kreuth is an oasis of
calm, where the appreciation of nature is the primary
draw for its visitors. Surrounded by magnificent alpine
scenery, cycling and walking opportunities abound.
We suggest a marvellous route that circumnavigates
the Hirschberg Mountain to the west. The loop
travels back to Rottach-Egern and along the shores
of the Tegernsee, before following a track between
the mountains to complete the circle. An enchanting
Gasthof lies along this quiet byway, offering simple fare
in the most fantastic location.
DAY 5 Kreuth to Wallgau: 26 miles (42km).
A gentle climb from Kreuth takes the route over a low
saddle, the Achenpass. You then continue along the
shores of the sparkling Sylvensteinsee in the shadows
of the towering Karwendel Mountains. There are few
villages along today’s route, but there is an excellent
Gasthof at Vorderiss, just after half distance. Beyond
Vorderiss, the journey continues along a privately
owned toll road (cyclists are free), which follows the River
Isar. This shaded lane meanders through picturesque
countryside for nine miles, before emerging at Wallgau.
DAY 6 Wallgau. This charming village is set in the broad
glaciated valley of the River Isar. This is an area of unspoilt
natural beauty, with rolling green meadows, crystal clear
lakes and majestic mountains, all enhanced by the ornately
painted buildings. Cyclists and walkers are spoilt for choice,
with a multitude of full and half day trips available. We also
suggest a cycle ride to the beautiful Walchensee; Germany’s
largest and deepest mountain lake.
DAY 7 Wallgau to Seefeld: 22 miles (35km).
The tour leaves Wallgau, heading south along the Isar Valley
to Mittenwald. The town is one of Bavaria’s best loved
alpine resorts and, is squeezed tightly between awesome
peaks at this narrowing of the valley. The tables of many
Gasthofs and cafés spill onto the pretty pedestrianised
centre, inviting you to take a mid-morning break. Leaving
Mittenwald you pass through the Leutasch Gorge, cross
the border into Austria and, emerge into a broad glaciated
valley of the same name. The ride up the Leutasch Valley is
truly breathtaking, high peaks rear up on either side and,
a perfect little lane winds its way through a series of idyllic
hamlets, each with at least one tempting Gasthof. Seefeld is
just a few miles to the south of the Leutasch.
DAY 8 Seefeld. Situated on a mountain plateau above
the northern side of the Inn Valley, Seefeld is perfect for

NEW
CASTLES, BEER AND
WINE ALONG THE MAIN
DID YOU KNOW?
THERE ARE OVER
300 BREWERIES IN
FRANCONIA - MAKE
SURE YOU TRY THEIR
FAMOUS SMOKED
BEER...
If it’s tasty local refreshments you’re after, this route
will leave you spoilt for choice. Starting in the
beautiful rolling hills of Franconian Switzerland,
awash with pretty villages ancient castles and
fantastic breweries, it then follows the Main Valley
through forests, meadows and vineyards via some
beautiful towns... and deep into wine territory.
9 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Nuremberg, Munich or Frankfurt
Airport. Transfer by minibus, taxi or train to our base
hotel in Rabenstein.
DAY 2 Rabenstein. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore
Rabenstein and the surrounding countryside.
The castle you’ll be staying in is situated in Franconian
Switzerland, given its name by Romantic 19th century
artisans who compared its rolling landscape to
Switzerland. As well as its spectacular caves, the area is
also famous for having the highest density of traditional
breweries in the world. Our suggested route takes you
through Gösweinstein and Pottenstein, two very pretty
villages with wonderful castles - Pottenstein’s is over
1000 years old. To add to the sense of fairytale, you can
return to your castle hotel later and enjoy a majestic
falconry display right there on your doorstep.
16
From caves and castles in the land of finest
beer, to every kind of wine you can imagine
along the sublime Main river valley route.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 3 Rabenstein to Kulmbach: 27 miles (44km).
After a small climb in the morning, you can enjoy a
gradual descent to join the Main Valley cycle route at
Bayreuth. Capital of Upper Franconia, this sizeable
town lies on the Red Main river and is famous for
its annual festival celebrating the works of Richard
Wagner. After lunch here, the route follows the river
towards Kulmbach. Featuring yet another splendid
castle - this one proud host to the largest tin soldier
museum in the world - Kulmbach is also famous for its
tasty bratwurst - the perfect way to finish the day after a
visit to the town’s fantastic brewery.
DAY 4 Kulmbach to Bad Staffelstein: 26 miles
(42km). Leaving Kulmbach now, enjoy a gentle
ride through the valley forests and along meadow
paths. We suggest stopping in the historical city of
Burgkunstadt, nestled on the banks of the Main
and home to Palace Strössendorf. Lichtenfels,
another distinctive Bavarian town renowned for its
basket-making and street market, is also worth a visit.
Next, it’s on to Bad Staffelstein, a spa town set in
exquisite surroundings and nicknamed ‘Gottesgarten
am Obermain’ (Eden on the Upper Main). From here it’s
easy to visit Staffelberg, one of Franconia’s most iconic
landmarks, before a spot of pampering at the town’s
thermal spa resort.
DAY 5 Bad Staffelstein to Bamberg: 20 miles (32km).
Continuing along the river, the route today is fairly
short and easy, allowing plenty of time to enjoy
Bamberg. Sprawling across seven hills, each crowned
by a beautiful church, Bamberg is a UNESCO world
heritage site, often referred to as ‘Franconian Rome’.
This historical and picturesque town is situated on the
Regnitz River, lined with pretty 19th century fishermen’s
houses. Home to nine breweries, a must-try here is
Rauchbier, a distinctive beer with a smokey flavour made
with malted barley dried over an open flame.
DAY 6 Bamberg to Haßfurt: 23 miles (37km). As the
route continues along the Main Valley, vineyards start
to appear on the hillsides, and the river views simply
increase in splendour. We suggest stopping off at Zeil
am Main, a charming old Franconian town known for its
ancient churches, romantic architecture, medieval walls
and towers, and the castle ruins of the Schmachtenburg.
Haßfurt, another attractive historical town of narrow
cobbled alleys, is the final stop today.
DAY 7 Haßfurt to Volkach. 28 miles (45km).
With vineyards left, right and centre, we’re now heading
deep into the Franken wine region, where some of
Germany’s finest wines are produced. Here you’ll notice
the distinctive Bocksbeutel: a wide, flattened bottle
originally designed to prevent the rather inconvenient

CYCLING PARADISE IN
THE CARINTHIAN LAKES
DID YOU

DELICIOUSLY DOABLE

Dip into the invigorating landscape of the
Carinthian Lakes on the ‘Austrian Riviera’, the
southernmost province of this stunning country.
Here, gorgeous beaches and secluded valleys are
framed by dramatic high peaks. And pilgrimage
churches, imposing castles, a 16th century Italian
palace and a Benedictine Abbey are all en route.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Salzburg or Ljubljana airport.
Transfer by minibus or taxi to our base hotel in Spittal.
DAY 2 Spittal. After breakfast you’ll be equipped with
your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore Spittal
and its surrounding area near the picturesque Lake
Millstätt. We recommend a gentle cycle excursion to
the lake shore for its beautiful beaches. Back in the
town itself, the splendid 16th century Italian palace
Schloß Porcia is a must-see. To the south, Goldeck
Mountain reaches a dizzy 2142m - take the cable car to
enjoy wonderful views from its peak.
DAY 3 Spittal to Egg am Faakersee: 26 miles (42km).
The Drau Valley cycle route leads downstream through
a broad glacial valley to Paternion. This pretty village,
nestling between sunny mountain slopes and shady
woodland, includes a charming pilgrimage church and
16th century castle. After passing through the historic
18

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
town of Villach, we continue to Lake Faak, one of
Carinthia’s finest.
DAY 4 Egg am Faakersee. With summer temperatures
of 26ºC and an idyllic location, it’s easy to understand
why Faakersee is among the region’s best bathing
lakes. Pretty villages are sprinkled along the shoreline,
while quiet lanes and tracks splinter into the
breathtakingly beautiful countryside. It’s time to enjoy
a little light cycling and some serious relaxation!
DAY 5 Egg am Faakersee to Feldkirchen: 22 miles
(35km). Leaving the Drau Valley cycle route, our tour
continues along the southern shore of the Ossiacher
See, a serene lake cradled between steeply wooded
slopes, with spectacular views to the Gerlitzen peak.
The half-way point of today’s tour is the village of
Ossiach, featuring a Benedictine Abbey dating back
to the 11th century. Part of the building has been
transformed into a hotel - the perfect place for
lunch. Our route continues along the Tiebel Valley
to Feldkirchen.
DAY 6 Feldkirchen. Set amid rolling farmland,
Feldkirchen’s roots date to the Middle Ages - the old
town is a maze of alleyways and narrow lanes, with
historic buildings to discover at each turn. The quiet
byways south-east of Feldkirchen are a cycling paradise
- sleepy hamlets and inviting lakes are framed by high
peaks as we ride past.
DAY 7 Feldkirchen to St Veit an der Glan:
18 or 26 miles (29 or 42km). Choose between a
gentle meander along the pretty Glan Valley or a
slightly more adventurous ride through several miles
of track into a secluded valley and the heart of a
wilder landscape.
DAY 8 St Veit an der Glan. The charming historic town
of St Veit was the seat of the Dukes of Carinthia until
1518. The legacy is a grand square, flanked by beautiful
period properties and arcaded courtyards. The focus
for our recommended ride is nearby Hochosterwitz
Castle, one of Carinthia’s most memorable landmarks.
Owned by the same family since 1571, the castle
features a series of 14 gates barricading its steeply
spiralling entry pathway (it’s easy to imagine what an
impenetrable barrier this presented to marauding
Turks). Perched on an outcrop, the castle casts a
dramatic silhouette for miles around.
DAY 9 St Veit an der Glan to Maria Wörth:
27 miles (43km). The tour continues south, roughly
following the River Glan, before skirting the south
shore of Lake Wörth to the village of Maria Wörth.
A visit to Maria Saal, a pilgrimage church dating back
to the 8th century, is rewarding for its Gothic structure
and interiors. Nearby, Carinthia’s open air museum
chronicles local life through the ages.

AUSTRIAN WINE AND
THE BEST OF THE DANUBE
DON’T

SLICE OF VIENNESE
SACHERTORTE (A
DELICIOUS GOOEY
CHOCOLATE
CAKE)
Discover why Austrian wine is the connoisseurs’
best-kept secret. The tradition of winemaking
here has created world-class dry white wines,
serious reds and fabulous sweet wines. As well as
enjoying a tipple, there’s delightful countryside
and medieval villages to drink in, with the Danube
itself providing a majestic backdrop.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Vienna airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Poysdorf, gateway to
Austria’s wine quarter.
DAY 2 Poysdorf. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore
Poysdorf, an authentic wine village with picturesque
Kellergassen (wine cellar lanes), amidst gently rolling
hills. Stop at a traditional Heuriger for a glass or two of
local wine, or perhaps treat yourself to a wine-themed
massage using grape-based oils.
DAY 3 Poysdorf to Wolkersdorf: 25 miles (40km).
We head south for the first leg of our journey, with an
undemanding meander through delightful vineyard
terrain. Cycle through lush green meadows and
shady forests as we make our way towards the old
town of Wolkersdorf. Our hotel is also surrounded by
beautiful countryside, including a trail that runs through
Hochleiten forest and back through the local vineyards.
20
White wine, red wine, dry wine, sweet...
every sip is a joy after riding through
lush forest and along the famous river.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 4 Wolkersdorf. Today is yours to spend as you
please - visit a local vineyard for a spot of wine-tasting,
explore the town, or enjoy a gentle ride through
the spectacular countryside around Wolkersdorf,
meandering through cool forests and sun-drenched
hills. In addition, Vienna with all of its attractions, is just
a 30 minute train ride away.
DAY 5 Wolkersdorf to Tulln: 26 miles (42km). After leaving Wolkersdorf, we join the renowned
Danube cycle route. The Austrian stretch offers diverse
views and a host of sights, including castles, museums,
churches, abbeys and quaint villages. Not to mention
the wide bike paths and mostly easy route that
gently slopes alongside the calm of the famous river.
We suggest stopping off at one of the Jausenstation,
where a local family serves homemade cold cuts and
cheeses from picnic tables.
DAY 6 Tulln. Located on the south bank of the Danube,
Tulln was the site of the Roman camp of Comagena
and contains a third century Roman Tower, considered
the oldest structure in Austria. This small town is also
famous as the birthplace of the painter Egon Schiele.
We highly recommend a ride to the remarkable
Klosterneuburg Priory. Its foundations, including a
castle tower and a Gothic chapel, date back to the 12th
century - but subsequent architectural styles include
baroque, neoclassical and neo-gothic. The monastic
library here contains 30,000 volumes, while its immense
wine cellar is testament to the importance of the
centuries-old viticultural tradition.
DAY 7 Tulln to Dürnstein: 26 miles (42km).
Today the tour continues to follow the Danube west,
weaving through cool forests along the wide, green
valley and passing through sleepy villages and pretty
wine towns. After stopping for a bite to eat in a local
pub, Dürnstein is the destination, a small town in the
renowned Wachau region. The town boasts an idyllic
valley setting, surrounded by vine-covered slopes.
The Wachau produces a particularly fine Riesling.
DAY 8 Dürnstein. The romantic town of Dürnstein
has a long and fascinating history, dating back to
1192, when Duke Leopold V held Richard I Lionheart
captive in Dürnstein Castle after a dispute during the
Third Crusade. The castle was destroyed in 1645 but
its ruins can still be seen today. We also recommend
a ride to nearby Krems, where the oldest grave ever
found in Austria was discovered and is believed to be
over 27,000 years old. This relatively small town was
once a serious rival to Vienna during the 11th and 12th
centuries. Today’s visitors are attracted by the town’s
elegant southern Italian-style architecture of town
houses and courtyards. Must-see buildings here include
the Piaristenkirche, the Renaissance town hall and vast
13th century Gozzoburg Palace.

town is best known for Stift Melk, the imposing
baroque Benedictine monastery which stands
proudly over the town. Founded in 1089, this
truly magnificent building with its numerous
frescos continues to inspire devotion from
all who visit. Our final recommendation for a

MOUNTAIN CHEESE

As the cowbells chime, you’ll experience the best
of the Swiss countryside - from rugged mountain
scenery to lush valleys. The highlights of this
thrilling ride include the magnificent Alps, idyllic
Lake Constance, the ancient city of St Gallen and
even Europe’s most powerful waterfalls - not to
mention the gastronomic delights of the region.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Zurich airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Appenzell.
DAY 2 Appenzell. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The day is now yours to explore
Appenzell and the surrounding area. This small town
lies among beautiful undulating meadows, with the
majestic Alpstein range providing a spectacular
backdrop to the south. A network of quiet lanes and
forest tracks traverse the landscape - you can pedal in
time to the rhythmic chiming of cowbells! Appenzell
is famous for its unique cheese, a key ingredient in
several local specialities. Sample this imaginative
cuisine at one of the authentic Gasthofs and cafés
around the cobbled market square surrounded by
colourful wooden houses. Alternatively, head to
Berggasthaus Aescher, a restaurant built into the
cliff face above Appenzell, for lunch with a view.
22
Fill up on delicious Appenzeller cheese before
peddling through forests and valleys towards
shimmering Lake Constance and the mighty Rhein.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 3 Appenzell to Tufertschwil: 26 miles (42km).
A morning meandering through glorious
Appenzellerland is punctuated by a visit to
Stein, a pretty village overlooking the Sitter Valley.
The fascinating Folk Museum here illustrates local
culture and crafts and a cheese factory demonstrates
the art of producing delicious Appenzeller.
The subsequent route passes close to St Gallen,
eastern Switzerland’s largest city. At St Gallen’s heart
is a magnificent cathedral and monastery, designated
a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The final leg to
Tufertschwil follows an isolated lane deep inside idyllic
alpine country.
DAY 4 Tufertschwil. Far off the beaten track, the tiny
hamlet of Tufertschwil is set in a truly enchanting
location. Deep green pastures are dotted with
ancient Swiss farmhouses as the cycling lanes wriggle
through lush valleys. The pride of Tufertschwil is the
Hotel Rössli, a perfect blend of rustic charm and
contemporary comfort.
DAY 5 Tufertschwil to Egnach: 26 miles (42km). Following the Mittelland cycle route, the rolling hills
of Upper Thurgau give way to a gentle landscape of
apple and pear orchards. A highlight of the day is
Bischofszell, a historic town situated at the confluence
of the Rivers Sitter and Thur.
DAY 6 Egnach. With a private shore-front for guests’
exclusive use, Lake Constance is just a stone’s throw
from your hotel. Cycling around the lake, your route
passes through Egnach and leads southeast to Arbon,
an attractive lakeside resort. St Gallen is also within
easy striking distance and deserves further exploration.
DAY 7 Egnach to Reichenau: 24 miles (38km).
Cycle paths and quiet lanes follow the Lake Constance
shoreline northwest to Konstanz. The stunning views
across to Germany are matched by those of the
snow-capped Alps. The old town of Konstanz is a maze
of cobbled alleys and perfectly preserved ancient
buildings - it certainly demands a lingering visit.
Having passed into Germany, this thrilling journey
continues along the shore and onto the resort island
of Reichenau.
DAY 8 Reichenau. During the 10th and 11th centuries,
the island of Reichenau was one of Europe’s largest
monastic centres and its legacy of fine churches and
abbey remains is now recognised as a World Heritage
site. Meanwhile, the nearby island of Mainau is an
extraordinary park, created for the Grand Dukes of
Baden, with romantic woods and vivid flower terraces
(the thriving hibiscus, orange trees and daturas
illustrate the mild climate). We definitely recommend a
cycling excursion here.

while ferry routes link the villages - great for taking
exciting shortcuts! On a clear day, you can enjoy
stunning views of the jagged alpine horizon across
the water.
DAY 10 Stein am Rhein. With its medieval halftimbered buildings and 16th century houses whose
façades are painted with frescos, Stein am Rhein
is justly renowned as one of Switzerland’s most
beautiful sights. Our suggested cycle route follows
the mighty Rhein west to Schaffhausen and the
Rheinfalls. Schaffhausen was an important trading
hub during the Middle Ages and its cobbled Old
Town streets are lined with Gothic, Renaissance and
Baroque buildings. The Rheinfalls inevitably make
a big splash with visitors - in fact, they are Europe’s
most powerful waterfalls.

With its dramatic backdrop and lush terrain, the
beauty of this unspoilt region is hard to resist. From
well-preserved medieval villages to spa resorts on
the Swiss Riviera, this tour takes you through the
heart of the countryside encompassing fairytale
castles, cathedrals and ancient city fortifications with refreshing dips in the lake along the way.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Genèva airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Gruyères.
DAY 2 Gruyères. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore
Gruyères, a well-preserved medieval village with
an 11th century fairytale castle and dazzling alpine
backdrop. Why not relax by dipping into an authentic
fondue here? Alternatively, you could explore Lake
Gruyère and meander through its idyllic pastures to
a soundtrack of ringing cow bells (after all, this is the
home of the famously nutty Gruyère cheese); or even
take the train to Gstaad, one of Switzerland’s smartest
resorts, and follow the national cycle route back to
Gruyère through dramatic valley scenery.
DAY 3 Gruyères to Fribourg: 24 miles (38km).
Following the tranquil shoreline of Lake Gruyère,
we ride along quiet lanes and forest tracks before
crossing picturesque farmland with stunning views of
snow-capped peaks. Finally, we arrive at Fribourg, an
atmospheric medieval centre perched upon a rocky
spur overlooking the River Sarine.
DAY 4 Fribourg. Explore the steep cobbled streets
of Fribourg. Lined with ancient buildings, the many
attractions here include the 13th century St Nicolas
Cathedral, covered wooden bridges decked with
brightly-coloured flowers, and the city fortifications with
a mile and a half of ramparts, 14 towers and a huge
bulwark (Switzerland’s most important medieval military
architecture). We also recommend a cycle excursion
into the breathtakingly beautiful surrounding landscape
of lakes, valleys and shady forests dwarfed by
towering mountains.
DAY 5 Fribourg to Murten: 20 miles (32km). Soak up the spectacular alpine scenery as we
trundle downhill past lakes, valleys and forests
stopping en route at friendly Gasthofs in delightfully
traditional villages.
DAY 6 Murten. On the edge of the Great Marsh,
Murten is one of the best preserved Swiss medieval
towns, and still encircled by its 15th century walls.
24
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
From the castle to the historic arcaded high street,
this is a charming place to stroll around. You could
also opt to make a splash at Lake Murten which is
ideal for swimming - or cycle across the causeway at
nearby Lake Biel to St Peters Island, where an excellent
restaurant will reward you with fabulous views. DAY 7 Murten to Yverdon les Bains: 27 miles (43km).
Today we embark on a truly epic ride along the shore of
Lake Neuchâtel (the largest lake entirely in Switzerland)
with views across to the picturesque peaks of the Swiss
Jura Mountains. Best of all, there will also be several
opportunities for a reviving swim en route.
DAY 8 Yverdon les Bains. Centred between the Jura
Mountains, the Orbe Plains, the Broye Hills and Lake
Neuchâtel, Yverdon les Bains is famous for its thermal
springs. The spa waters here are renowned for their
healing powers. The imposing 13th century castle
features four round towers. Our recommended cycle
excursion to the shores of Lake Neuchâtel can also be
combined with a worthwhile boat trip.
DAY 9 Yverdon les Bains to Lutry: 25 miles (40km).
Taking the national cycle route that links Yverdon and
Lake Genèva, we weave along peaceful lanes and
forest tracks through the scenic landscape. As we reach
Lake Genèva, the wonderful vistas of the Mont Blanc
massif reward our efforts.

Who can resist the romantic lure of Tuscany? With
rolling hills covered in olive groves, vineyards and
scatterings of farmhouses, this revered Italian
region has long been the muse of the world’s
great artists. Tuscany is best experienced off the
beaten track on quiet rides through the exquisite
scenery that has captivated visitors for centuries.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Pisa airport. Transfer by minibus
or taxi to our base hotel in Pienza.
DAY 2 Pienza. After breakfast you’ll be equipped with
your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore Pienza, a
perfect example of a Renaissance town commissioned
by Pope Pius II in 1459. This UNESCO World Heritage
site is set amid idyllic Tuscan scenery of cypress trees,
olive groves, sunflowers and vineyards.
DAY 3 Pienza to San Giovanni d’Asso: 18 miles
(29km). A relaxing day spent meandering through
sleepy backwaters. Much of the route follows Strada
Bianchi, the tranquil back-roads that criss-cross Tuscany.
A 13th century castle lies at the centre of San Giovanni
d’Asso, part of which has been converted into a
boutique luxury hotel and restaurant; your stay here
should prove a special treat.
26
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 4 San Giovanni d’Asso. This charming village
lies at the heart of the Crete Senesi, a region of clay
hills southeast of Siena. Renowned for its truffles,
the village is actually home to the world’s only truffle
museum! Quiet byways link the peaceful villages here
- an excellent opportunity to explore this undiscovered
corner of Tuscany.
DAY 5 San Giovanni d’Asso to Castelnuovo
Berardenga: 24 miles (38km). The tour continues
north passing through Asciano, an atmospheric
ancient town with evidence of 5th century Etruscan
settlers. Beyond Asciano a remote lane rolls across the
Crete Senesi emerging at Castelnuovo Berardenga, a
picturesque village on the southern fringe of Chianti.
DAY 6 Castelnuovo Berardenga. The enchanting heart
of Chianti lies to the north of Castelnuovo Berardenga,
a landscape of undulating hills adorned with vineyards
and forests. We suggest a route visiting some of the
pretty wine centres in the south of the region.
DAY 7 Castelnuovo Berardenga to Castellina in
Chianti: 24 miles (38km). A glorious ride through
vineyards and olive groves passing Chianti’s legendary
winemakers. Of course, there’ll be opportunities to
sample and purchase a few bottles (our representative
will collect your purchases). The intoxicating scenery
is a pure delight of hilltop villages, avenues of cypress
trees, and golden fields of sunflowers.
DAY 8 Castellina in Chianti. The medieval village of
Castellina in Chianti is endlessly fascinating - from the
imposing Rocca (castle) with its huge 14th century
tower and small Etruscan museum, to the Via delle
Volte, an underground tunnel skirting the town wall
which serves as a vast wine cellar. The nearby village of
Radda in Chianti has a charming main street lined with
historic buildings and is a producer of excellent wines.
The breathtaking views on our suggested loop are
truly inspirational.
DAY 9 Castellina in Chianti to San Gimignano:
24 miles (38km). Today’s ride begins with a
long, winding descent towards the Siena Plains.
After crossing the Val d’Elsa, the route continues
through classic rolling Tuscan landscapes.
DAY 10 San Gimignano. Renowned as the ‘city of
beautiful towers’, San Gimignano is among the best
preserved medieval towns in Tuscany. With 14 towers
dating from the 13th century creating a stunning
skyline, the town is best explored on foot - discover its
excellent museums, restaurants and shops that line the
historic cobbled streets. Of course, we also suggest a
last gentle pedal to soak up the unique beauty of the
Tuscan countryside.

CYCLING HOLIDAYS
NEW
SÜDTIROL, LAKE GARDA
AND VALPOLICELLA
From the dizzy heights of the Reschenpass
summit to balmy Lake Garda, this tour crosses
a land rich in history, folklore... and wine.
DID YOU
KNOW? LAKE
GARDA IS JUST OVER
50KM LONG AND JUST
UNDER 20KM WIDE,
MAKING IT ITALY’S
LARGEST LAKE
The South Tyrol’s incredible natural beauty engulfs
you on this tour, as you weave through deep valleys
and apple orchards down to the Mediterraneanesque
shores of Lake Garda, before finishing near the
impossibly romantic city of Verona. Ancient castles,
rustic villages and vineyards punctuate the journey,
all with a spectacular mountain backdrop.
10 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Verona, Venice or Innsbruck airport.
Transfer by minibus, taxi or train to our base hotel in
Sankt Valentin auf der Haide.
DAY 2 Sankt Valentin auf der Haide. After breakfast
you’ll be equipped with your bicycle. The day is then
yours to explore Sankt Valentin auf der Haide and the
surrounding countryside. Our suggested route takes
you around spectacular Reschensee, a lake famous for
the rather surprising steeple rising out of the water.
At the far end of the lake you arrive at picture
perfect Reschen; the essence of a Tyrolean village.
From Reschen you can also ride 2km to the summit
of the Reschenpass for spectacular mountain and lake
views over a picnic lunch.
DAY 3 Sankt Valentin auf der Haide to Rabland: 35
miles (56km). At first glance, today’s route appears to
28
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
be longer, but it’s virtually downhill all the way, so you
can enjoy glorious freewheeling through vineyards and
apple orchards with a majestic mountain backdrop.
Highlights include the village of Burgeis; Glurns, a
beautifully preserved medieval settlement with its
original city walls still in tact; and Schlanders, the
capital of the famous Vinschgau.
DAY 4 Rabland to Kaltern: 27 miles (43km).
Following the Adige valley downstream, it’s no surprise
this region is the biggest apple producer in Europe
(they harvest 5 billion a year), as the route weaves
between one apple orchard after another, with lovely
towns and beer-stops along the way. We suggest lunch
in Meran, a tranquil lakeside town nestled in a basin
between soaring mountains. As you wind your way from
here towards Bozen, the landscape feels increasingly
Mediterranean as you approach Kaltern, a sunny region
awash with cypress, fig and olive trees. After a happy
day on the bike, you’ll have plenty of time to sample
Kaltern’s finest export: the wine.
DAY 5 Kaltern to Trento: 28 miles (46km).
Leaving Kaltern now, you’ll have another opportunity
for a refreshing dip, this time in the beautiful
Kalterersee. The wine route continues through Tramin,
another pretty town where there’s plenty to see, do and
drink (the Gewürztraminer grape variety originates from
here). We end the day in Trento, an attractive Italian
city brimming with culture and history etched out in
the form of Renaissance-style monuments, frescoed
houses, churches and museums.
DAY 6 Trento to Riva del Garda. 24 miles (38km).
You’ll start today with a helping hand, as we transport
you from your hotel to Cadine, about 6km away and,
importantly, 300m above Trento. From here you can
enjoy a beautiful downhill ride past numerous lakes
(stopping for a dip whenever you fancy) and down the
Sarca valley, where the river flows shallow and fast,
forming waterfalls as it tumbles on. We recommend
lunch on Lake Toblino, where a striking castle on the
water’s edge now functions as a restaurant with a
mighty mountain view.
DAY 7 Riva del Garda. Lake Garda is too beautiful to
simply pass through, so today you have all the time
in the world to enjoy its various delights. From here
you can also explore the nearby villages of Torbole
and Nago where you can wander through the tiny
backstreets and around ancient churches. That is, of
course, if you can tear yourself away from the sublime
shores and flourishing vegetation of shimmering Lake
Garda itself. With lovely little towns to potter around, al
fresco dining with a lakeside view, and swimming in the
glorious blue water, you might not want to leave at all.

21 miles (34km). Another easy start to the day, with
a morning ferry ride down the length of Lake Garda
to Sirmione, an ancient municipality dating back to
Roman times. Built prominently here on the water’s
edge, the ‘Grottoes of Catullus’ are well worth a
look. Once on shore, the route takes you to San
Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of Valpollicella, an area
renowned for its wine production. As luck would
have it, your haven for the night is a winemaker’s
villa – the perfect spot to sample the various delights
on offer in the area - from dessert wines and strong
wines made from dried grapes, to light, fragrant
whites and Amarone, a rich dry red.

CYCLING HOLIDAYS
ROUTE DU VIN
IN THE ALSACE
From sun-drenched vineyards and Grand cru villages to emerald
green valleys, shady green forests and crystal-clear streams, this is an
intoxicating journey of the senses - with some tasty wines thrown in.
TARTE
FLAMBÉE IS THE
LOCAL TREAT HERE:
A CRISP DOUGH BASE
SLATHERED IN CRÈME
FRAÎCHE, ONIONS
AND LARDONS YUM.
Pedalling along the pretty lanes that meander
through vineyards and fields of sunflowers along
the famous Alsace wine road will work up an
appetite for the region’s distinctive cuisine and
a thirst for some of the world’s finest wines.
Fortunately, Michelin-starred restaurants and
rustic wine bars are en route...
DAY 3 Obernai to Dieffenthal: 18 miles (29km).
Following the Alsace Route du Vin, today’s ride hugs
the lower slopes of the Vosges, skipping between
sundrenched vineyards and picturesque villages.
Highlights include Andlau; a flower-decked village
nestling in an emerald green valley, and Dambach
la Ville; a grand cru village decorated with blooming
vintner’s carts.
9 DAY TOUR
DAY 4 Dieffenthal. Perched high above the valley on
the eastern edge of the Vosges sits Château du Haut
Koenigsbourg. The castle’s origins date to 1114 and,
though destroyed twice over the centuries, the current
magnificent structure is the result of a painstaking
and precise reconstruction early in the 20th century.
Determined cyclists may wish to conquer the hill,
however, a relaxing excursion by bus is also possible.
In the valley below, just an amble from Diefenthal,
lies Sélestat, the ‘intellectual centre of Alsace’ during
the Renaissance. This interesting town possesses an
exceptional library, housing a collection of some of the
earliest printed books.
DAY 1 Arrive at Strasbourg or Basel airport.
Transfer by minibus or taxi to our base hotel in Obernai.
DAY 2 Obernai. After breakfast you’ll be equipped with
your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore Obernai
and the surrounding countryside. Obernai’s cobbled
market square is framed by ancient timbered buildings
painted vibrant colours in typical Alsatian style.
Narrow streets radiate from the square, just waiting
to be explored. Beyond the town, pretty lanes weave
their way through vineyards and fields of sunflowers.
A gentle excursion by bicycle to Rosheim; whose main
street features some of the oldest buildings in the
Alsace and, Ottrott; producer of some of the regions
finest red wines, will help build an appetite for a meal
in one of Obernai’s excellent restaurants.
30
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 5 Dieffenthal to Kaysersberg: 21 miles (34km). Today’s route is crammed full with fantastic highlights;
revered vineyards and enchanting medieval villages are
linked by idyllic lanes and tracks meandering through
the ripening grapes. Most famous are the neighbouring
villages Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. Thriving and
opulent, the brightly painted wood framed houses
lining the cobbled streets are clad with geranium-filled
window boxes. Wine is everywhere and there are plenty
of opportunities to sample...
DAY 6 Kaysersberg. The proud birthplace of Nobel
prize winner Albert Schweitzer, Kayersberg (meaning
Emperor’s Mountain), earned its title due to its
strategic position during Roman times. Indeed several
emperors have overseen the town’s fortification and
development, leaving an impressive legacy of historic
buildings. We suggest a pleasant loop to nearby
Beblenheim, a wine village overflowing with
Alsation character.
DAY 7 Kaysersberg to Colmar: 24 miles (38km).
The tour now loops south, criss-crossing the Alsace
Wine Route, passing numerous wineries and sleepy
villages. Turkheim, which adorns many a postcard, is
swiftly followed by Eguisheim, equally endowed with
enchanting half timbered houses. At Rouffach, a town
whose grand square is dominated by a majestic church,
the route turns north, crossing arable farmland on the
way to Colmar. Wine tasting opportunities continue
to abound, with sophisticated Rieslings and aromatic
Gewürztraminer competing for your attention.

CYCLING HOLIDAYS
PEARLS OF ISTRIA
IN CROATIA
DID YOU
KNOW? BRIJUNI, AN
EXQUISITE NATIONAL
PARK ON THE OCEAN,
IS MADE UP OF NO
LESS THAN 14
ISLANDS
Istria’s beautiful countryside and spectacular
coastal paths are best experienced in the saddle,
stopping at picturesque seaside villages, hilltop
towns and historic cities to experience the
heritage and culture of this beautiful destination.
And out of the saddle? It’s all about the delicious
Istrian cuisine and superb locally produced wines.
11 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Pula or Zagreb airport. Transfer by
minibus, taxi or train to our base hotel in Motovun.
DAY 2 Motovun. After breakfast you’ll be equipped
with your bicycle. The day is then yours to explore
Motovun and the surrounding countryside.
This fortified hilltop town is encircled by medieval
walls - walking along them you will be able to see
Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture
dating back centuries. We recommend an easy cycle
ride through the countryside that lies beneath the town
- you’ll pedal through fields, forests and vineyards.
DAY 3 Motovun to Novigrad: 20 miles (32km).
Today we travel west, following the River Mirna
downstream towards the small coastal town of
Novigrad. Part of our route will take us along the
Parenzana, an old railway line which is now a beautiful
and unique cycling trail.
32
Set to the backdrop of Croatia’s renowned crystal-clear
waters, this route is almost completely coastal - perfect
for dips in the sea followed by fresh fish for lunch.
CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 4 Novigrad. We suggest a ride up the coast to
Umag today. Set around a pretty bay, its old quarter
is filled with narrow, cobbled streets and red-roofed
Venetian villas. There’s also a lovely marina where you’ll
find a number of restaurants and bars. Enjoy a lunch of
freshly caught seafood, perhaps washed down with a
glass of Istrian wine.
on the Istrian coast, with winding, cobbled streets,
centuries-old churches, and tree-shaded squares.
We will then cycle inland to cross the Limski Kanal, a
spectacular fjord-like estuary bordered by thick, bottlegreen forests. After riding back along the south side of
the Kanal, we will continue our journey along the coast
to Rovinj.
DAY 5 Novigrad to Porec: 18 miles (29km).
Our route takes us south, as we travel along quiet cycle
paths and picturesque lanes towards historic Porec.
As we will be following the coast, you’ll have plenty of
opportunities to stop at local beach bars for ice-cold
drinks overlooking the glittering Adriatic Sea.
DAY 8 Rovinj. You’ll have time to explore Rovinj and
the surrounding area. There are plenty of easy cycle
routes up and down the coast from here - along the
way, you’ll find many beachside bars and restaurants
for drink breaks and leisurely lunches featuring local
dishes. Try prsut, a delicious smoked ham, or order
a risotto made with locally sourced truffles. Seafood
is also an Istrian speciality, particularly oysters and
mussels, which are farmed from the Limski Kanal.
Rovinj itself is a magical place. Set around a pretty
harbour, its highlight is the stunning old town.
The ancient stone buildings and wooden-shuttered
town houses lead to a grand cathedral, which sits
atop a hill. Climb up its campanile for fantastic views
over the entire town. The heritage museum is also
well worth a visit - it’s set in a baroque palace and
has fascinating art collections, as well as displays of
archaeological finds.
DAY 6 Porec. Time to explore this attractive Roman
harbour town. We suggest an excursion to the
impressive Baredine cave, a few miles inland. The ride
there is a pleasant one, along quiet country lanes.
Back in Porec, the 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica is
worth a visit. This complex of early Christian buildings
has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO,
and includes an imposing and beautifully decorated
cathedral. The tiny island of St Nicholas, just offshore,
is also a lovely place to spend the afternoon.
DAY 7 Porec to Rovinj: 26 miles (42km). Time to
meander south along the coast, stopping in the town
of Vrsar. Perched on a hill overlooking a deep-blue bay,
this former fishing village is one of the prettiest places
DAY 9 Rovinj to Fazana: 23 miles (37km). The route
today continues south along the beautiful Istrian coast.

Fazana is the bustling port city of

remarkable range of walking opportunities.
A ramble through the spectacular alpine scenery
is an exercise in natural grandeur and beauty.
Just breathe that pure mountain air…
DAY 1 Arrive at Munich airport. Transfer by minibus,
taxi or train to our base hotel in Wallgau.
DAY 4 Mittenwald. Though one of Bavaria’s premier
resorts, Mittenwald retains a tranquil atmosphere.
Visitors are attracted by the clear mountain air and the
extensive range of hill-walking available in the area.
Towering over Mittenwald to the east is the imposing
Karwendel West summit, whose sheer wall rises to
2385m. A cable car ride to the top provides dizzy
views across the Alps. Other temptations include
the Leutasch Gorge and Valley, a beautiful and
little-explored tributary of the Isar; two nearby bathing
lakes, the Ferchensee and Lautersee; and the excellent
violin-making museum.
DAY 2 Wallgau. Set in spectacular alpine scenery, this
picturesque village is a popular holiday destination for
walkers of all levels of fitness. Wallgau lies in a broad
glaciated valley formed by the River Isar. 2000m peaks
rise up on all sides providing a rich variety of interesting
day walks. Bathing lakes, waterfalls, narrow gorges and
mountain summits are all within reach.
DAY 5 Mittenwald to Garmisch-Partenkirchen:
10 miles (16km). The route skirts the lower slopes of
the Wettersteingebirge, alternating between alpine
meadows and pine forests, with superb views of the
Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. At either end
of the day, a chair lift and gondola are available to
shorten the distance and even out the ups and downs.
DAY 3 Wallgau to Mittenwald: 7 miles (11km).
These two villages are linked by the Isar Valley.
The route meanders through the foothills, with views
to the fertile farmland below. Nearing Mittenwald, the
valley narrows at the meeting of two majestic ranges,
the Wetterstein and Karwendel Gebirge.
DAY 6 Garmisch-Partenkirchen. An internationally
renowned resort, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an
amalgamation of two distinct and very different
towns. Garmisch, chic and cosmopolitan, contrasts
with Partenkirchen’s old world Bavarian charm. Each is
appealing, and a day can easily be absorbed exploring
the museums, shops and back streets. Again, the main
summer activity is walking. Well-marked paths radiate

from the town, leading to idyllic lakes and spectacular
gorges lying concealed in the surrounding mountains.
On a clear day, an excursion to the Zugspitze summit
by mountain railway and cable car offers panoramic
views of the Alps.
DAY 7 Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Grainau:
6 or 8 miles (10 or 13km). Today there’s a choice of
two routes. One follows the valley, winding through
lush meadows below the magnificent Wettersteins.
The trail passes the pretty Riessersee, with views to
the Zugspitze reflected in its crystal waters. The other
option leaves the valley shortly after passing the
Riessersee. Here the Kreuzeck cable car is available to
lift you high into the mountains. A well marked path
contours around the Waxenstein Mountain, before
descending through some of the best scenery the
Bavarian Alps has to offer. The route continues through
a narrow gorge to Grainau.
DAY 8 Grainau. Known as the Zugspitze village,
Grainau is a wonderful blend of natural grandeur,
enhanced by the legacy of beautiful buildings left by
farmers through the ages. Window boxes burst with
colour against weathered timber walls, with the sheer
face of the Zugspitze rearing behind. Nearby are two
picturesque lakes: the Badersee and the Eibsee.
The former is emerald green and has a statue of a
mermaid hidden in its depths. The latter nestles high

WALKING HOLIDAYS
TYROLIAN
TREATS
A thousand chocolate box images surround you on this route, from rustic
cabins pitched high in the mountains, to authentic Austrian restaurants
with lakeside views, where a slice of Apfelstrudel never tasted so good.
WHEN YOU’VE
RUN OUT OF PUFF,
TRY TYROLER GRÖSTL
IN TYROL - A FARMERS’
BREAKFAST THAT HITS
THE SPOT EVERY
TIME
Hugely popular with walkers and hikers, the Tyrol
region is awash with grassy alpine meadows,
dramatic mountains, pine and maple tree forests,
and dazzling lakes. Ride on cable cars and walk
along mountain-top trails, enjoy boat trips, and
even take a steam train to Innsbruck. And of
course, the route is dotted with tempting Gasthofs...
7 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 Arrive at Munich or Innsbruck airport. Transfer
by minibus, taxi or train to our base hotel in Achenkirch.
DAY 2 Achenkirch. You have a full day to explore
the spectacular area around Achenkirch. We suggest
taking a boat trip out onto beautiful Lake Achen,
the largest in the Tyrol region. The lake is similar to a
fjord, sandwiched between the dramatic Karwendel
and Rofan mountains. You can enjoy a two-hour
round trip, or stop off at one of the landing points to
explore nearby villages, relax on the lakeside beaches
and swim. Another option is a walk to the Posthotel
Achenkirch’s Zöhreralm. The route takes you through
forests and fields to a picturesque cabin, high on the
mountainside. The outlook from here is superb, and
there’s a large outdoor terrace where you can soak
up the views of Achenkirch, the Achensee and the
surrounding mountains. The food is top quality, too,
prepared with fresh produce from the hotel’s own farm.

CYCLING AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
DAY 3 Achenkirch to Pertisau: 8 miles (13km).
Today you’ll head south, tracing an easy route along
the western shore of the Achensee, with stunning views
across the lake to the tree-coated Rofan Mountains.
We suggest stopping for lunch about halfway along,
at The Gaisalm, an idyllic wooden cabin right on the
water. The menu here features delicious homemade
meals, from succulent roast pork to traditional Austrian
pastries. The restaurant is surrounded by grassy fields
- ideal for a spot of post-lunch sunbathing. Once in
Pertisau, you’ll make your way to a chalet-style hotel
for the next two nights. It has an enviable setting, and
your room will have a balcony with beautiful views of
the water or mountains. The centre of town is only a
few minutes’ walk away, too. It’s an idyllic place, once a
favourite with Austria’s artists and aristocrats.
DAY 4 Pertisau. You’ve got the whole day to enjoy
Pertisau. We suggest a trip on the Pertisau or Maurach
cable cars. Both offer fantastic views across the forests,
mountains and lake, and there are some excellent walks
once you’re up there. You’ll find a number of traditional
mountain huts, where you can stop for lunch or a cold
drink on the way. From Maurach, you can head for the
Eagle’s Nest on Gschöllopf, which offers magnificent
360-degree views - don’t forget your camera. If you
choose Maurach, we recommend walking there and
catching the boat back up the lake to Pertisau.
Another option is to visit the ‘capital of the Alps’ -
Innsbruck. This historical city has plenty to keep sightseers
busy. Visit the Goldenes Dachl Museum, with its famous
roof covered in more than 2,500 guilded copper tiles, tour
the opulent Imperial Palace, or ascend the Stadtturm - a
Medieval tower with views right across the town. The 18th
century cathedral is also worth a look. Even just strolling
through the streets of the old town, you’ll pass beautiful
Baroque and Regency buildings. The journey from
Pertisau is an attraction in itself. For part of the way, you’ll
travel on one of the oldest steam trains in Austria - the
Achensee Steam Cog Railway.
DAY 5 Pertisau to Eng: 11 miles (18km). Time to head
to Eng, to the west of Pertisau. The route goes over the
Plumssattel, where you can take in fantastic scenery of
grassy slopes, thick forests and snow-capped mountains.
As you approach the lower slopes about five kilometres
from Pertisau, you can stop for a bite to eat at Gernalm,
an excellent Gasthof. The kitchen here specialises in
hearty Austrian dishes, with ingredients including freshly
caught mountain trout and Tyrolean bacon. Save room for
dessert - the homemade pastries and Apfelstrudel are a
real treat. There’s also a cosy mountain hut close to
the top of the pass where you can enjoy delicious
home-cooked Tyrolean cuisine. In Eng, you’ll be staying
in a traditional-style inn, which offers fabulous mountain
views. There’s a spa with a sauna and whirlpool bath - an
ideal place to relax after your walk - and a cosy restaurant
that serves dishes made with fresh, local produce.

DAY 6 Eng. You’ll have the day to
explore Eng, set at the head of a maple
tree-studded valley. We suggest a visit to
the next-door village of Eng Alm. It’s one
of Europe’s oldest mountain villages, and
has retained much of its traditional Alpine
charm. There’s even a little petting zoo
where children can help to feed goats and
rabbits. During the summer months, cows
graze on the grassy meadows around the
town and produce milk, from which butter
and a delicious mountain cheese are made
- available from the village farm shop if you
fancy taking some with you. For lunch, we
recommend a walk to the nearby Binsalm
- it’ll take around an hour to get there. This
lovely Gasthof serves up hearty meals with
outstanding views of alpine meadows and
maple trees, and a superb backdrop of
rocky, snow-dusted peaks.

BOOKING CONDITIONS
1. Your Holiday Contract
When you make a booking you guarantee that you have the authority to accept and
do accept on behalf of your party the terms of these booking conditions. A contract
will exist as soon as we issue our confirmation invoice. This contract is made on the
terms of these booking conditions, which are governed by English Law, and the
jurisdiction of the English Courts. You may however, choose the law and jurisdiction of
Scotland or Northern Ireland if you wish to do so.
2. Your Financial Protection
We provide full financial protection for our package holidays.
1.
For flight-based holidays this is through our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence
number 4055.
Your Financial Protection
When you buy an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will
receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists what is financially protected, where you can get
information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong.
“We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the
services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where
neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative
ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable
alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances
the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any
money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL
holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint
an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under
the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable).”
If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide
the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or
otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make
a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that
in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any
claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of
the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer
where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another
body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme.
2.
When you buy a package holiday that doesn’t include a flight, protection is
provided by way of a bond held by ABTA.
3. ABTA
We are a Member of ABTA, membership number C6711. We are obliged to maintain
a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you
an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of this contract. The
scheme is arranged by ABTA and administered independently. It is a simple and
inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you
for costs. The upper limit on claims is £5,000 per person and £25,000 per booking
form. The scheme doesn’t apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical
injury or illness or their consequences. It can however deal with claims which include
an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,500 on the amount the
arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. Your request for arbitration
must be received by ABTA within eighteen months of the date of return from holiday.
For injury and illness claims, you can request the ABTA Mediation Procedure and we
have the option to agree to mediation. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s
assistance in resolving disputes can be found on .
4. Your Holiday Price
a. We reserve the right to alter the prices of any of the holidays shown in our
brochure. You will be advised of the current price of the holiday that you wish
to book before your contract is confirmed.
b. When you make your booking you must pay a deposit. The amount of deposit
due will be confirmed at the time of booking. The balance of the price of your
travel arrangements must be paid at least 8 weeks before your departure
date. If the deposit and/or balance is not paid in time, we shall cancel your
travel arrangements. If the balance is not paid in time we shall retain your
deposit.
We guarantee that there will be no surcharges on our holidays for Summer 2015.
5. If You Change Your Booking
If, after our confirmation invoice has been issued, you wish to change your
travel arrangements in any way, for example your chosen departure date or
accommodation, we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always
be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing from the person
who made the booking . You will be asked to pay an administration charge of £25

per person and any further cost we incur in making this alteration. You should be
aware that these costs could increase the closer to the departure date that changes
are made and you should contact us as soon as possible. Note: Certain travel
arrangements (e.g. flights) may not be changeable after a reservation has been made
and any alteration request could incur a cancellation charge of up to 100% of that part
of the arrangements.
relevant information. Please keep your letter concise and to the point. It is strongly
recommended that you communicate any complaint to the supplier of the services
without delay and complete a report form whilst in resort. If you fail to follow this
simple procedure we will have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and
rectify your complaint whilst you were in resort and this may affect your rights under
this contract. Please also see clause 3 above on ABTA.
6. If You Cancel Your Holiday
You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time.
Written notification from the person who made the booking must be received at our
offices. Since we incur costs in cancelling your travel arrangements, you will have to
pay cancellation charges as follows:
9. Our Liability to You
If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed by us
or our suppliers we will pay you appropriate compensation if this has affected the
enjoyment of your travel arrangements. However we will not be liable where any
failure in the performance of the contract is due to: you; or a third party unconnected
with the provision of the travel arrangements and where the failure is unforeseeable
or unavoidable; or unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the
consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been
exercised; or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not
foresee or forestall. Our liability, except in cases involving death, injury or illness, shall
be limited to a maximum of 2 times the cost of your travel arrangements. Our liability
will also be limited in accordance with and/or in an identical manner to
a. The contractual terms of the companies that provide the transportation for
your travel arrangements. These terms are incorporated into this contract;
and
b. Any relevant international convention, for example the Montreal Convention
in respect of travel by air, the Athens Convention in respect of travel by sea,
the Berne Convention in respect of travel by rail and the Paris Convention
in respect of the provision of accommodation, which limit the amount of
compensation that you can claim for death, injury, delay to passengers
and loss, damage and delay to luggage. We are to be regarded as having
all benefit of any limitation of compensation contained in these or any
conventions.

7. If We Change or Cancel Your Holiday
As we plan your holiday arrangements many months in advance we may occasionally
have to make changes or cancel your booking and we reserve the right to do so at
any time.
Changes If we make a major change to your holiday, we will inform you as soon as
reasonably possible if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice
of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative
travel arrangements of comparable standard from us if available (we will refund any
price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your holiday and
receiving a full refund of all monies paid. In some cases we will also pay compensation
(see below). These options don’t apply for minor changes. Examples of minor
changes include alteration of your outward/return flights by less than 12 hours,
changes to aircraft type, change of accommodation to another of the same or higher
standard, changes of carriers and alterations to the tour itinerary. Please note that
carriers such as airlines may be subject to change.
Cancellation Very occasionally it may be necessary for us to cancel a specific
departure or tour. We reserve the right to do this for any reason up to 8 weeks
prior to the departure date. We will not cancel your travel arrangements less than
8 weeks before your departure date, except for reasons of force majeure or failure
by you to pay the final balance. We may cancel your holiday before this date if, e.g.,
the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not
reached. If your holiday is cancelled you can either have a refund of all monies paid or
accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if
available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value).
Compensation If we cancel or make a major change we will pay compensation as
detailed below except where the major change or cancellation arises due to reasons
of force majeure. The compensation that we offer does not exclude you from claiming
more if you are entitled to do so.

terrorist activity and its consequences, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse
weather conditions, epidemics and pandemics, unavoidable technical problems with
transport.
8. If You Have A Complaint
If you have a problem during your holiday, please inform the relevant supplier (e.g.
your hotelier) or our representative immediately. If your complaint is not resolved
locally, please follow this up within 28 days of your return home by writing to our
Customer Services Department giving your booking reference and all other
You can ask for copies of the transport companies’ contractual terms, or the
international conventions, from our offices. Under EU law (Regulation 261/2004) you
have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline
in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights
will be publicised at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However
reimbursement in such cases will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your
holiday cost from us. Your right to a refund and/or compensation from us is set out

airline will be deducted.

the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer
where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another
body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme.
10. Prompt Assistance in Resort
If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed as a
result of failures attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the
services, or as a result of failures due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances
beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if
all due care had been exercised, or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all
due care, could not foresee or forestall, and you suffer an injury or other material loss,
we will offer you such prompt assistance as is reasonable in the circumstances.
11. Passport, Visa and Immigration Requirements
Your specific passport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements
are your responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/
or Consulates. We do not accept any responsibility if you cannot travel because you
have not complied with any passport, visa or immigration requirements.
12. Excursions
Excursions or other tours that you may choose to book or pay for whilst you are on
holiday are not part of your package holiday provided by us. For any excursion or
other tour that you book, your contract will be with the operator of the excursion or
tour and not with us. We are not responsible for the provision of the excursion or tour
or for anything that happens during the course of its provision by the operator.
