The design concept for the new hotel embraces the native people’s spirituality, artistic sensibility, and oneness with nature, while simultaneously striving for a timeless sophistication. Stemming from the legacy of the Anasazi people and the indigenous ruins of Chaco Canyon, the design aims to create a calming sanctuary of cultural significance for the modern day. The 118 room property comprises of five levels and features guestrooms designed to extend outdoors onto gracious terraces showcasing majestic views towards the Sandia Mountains or the serene views overlooking the beautiful gardens and pool terrace below. The hotel also boasts a tranquil outdoor garden, a signature restaurant, a luxurious spa and fitness facility and a rooftop event and dining terrace. hhandr.com/new-hotel PRINCIPAL FEATURES A New Architectural Language for the Southwest The design team developed an architectural style that simultaneously speaks to the rich heritage of New Mexico, its people, and the land, while transitioning into a new contemporary architecture that is relevant in the modern day. Artisanal Focus With a focus on craft, inspiration was drawn from local artists and the true artisan nature of the indigenous painters, sculptors, and basket-weavers. With a hand-crafted quality to the overall project, an intense focus is placed on materiality, texture, and light. The woven façade articulation of the native limestone celebrates not only these qualities, but becomes a poetic translation of the basket-weaving craft. The chosen materials for the project all reflect the very natural palette inspired by the vast New Mexico landscapes. Building Orientation Anchoring its strong relationship to the cosmos, the property’s solar orientation and massing celebrate certain alignments with the sun and moon on a daily basis, as well as certain times throughout the year. A Calming Sanctuary for the Senses Upon entry, guests are welcomed with soothing sounds, flowing water, and a warming fire before arriving to the main lobby experience. Beyond the lobby lies the tranquility of the garden, embraced by the landscape with the canopies of the cottonwoods trees soaring overhead. Art Program The property includes an extensive art program to celebrate local and regional artists throughout the public spaces as well as integral to the guestrooms and landscape. Rooftop Amenities Taking advantage of the stunning views to the Sandia Mountains, the hotel offers several rooftop amenities including an exterior event deck for weddings and special occasions, as well as a rooftop restaurant and lounge extending from inside to out.
