Salesianity Assessors Training Workshop
July 4-5, 2012
A group of about 20 Salesians responded to the invitation to participate in the training for
Salesianity accreditation held last July 4-5, 2012 at the Bosco Hall – DBTI Makati. Fr. Eli Cruz
addressed the group and provided them with updates regarding some directions the Salesian
Congregation has taken in the recent years. He directed the group to update some of the indicators
of the Salesianity Accreditation tool based on the recent guidelines and the new developments in
our schools. The workshop was facilitated by Fr. Inocencio and the resource person Ms. Conception
Pijano, the Executive Director of the PAASCU.

BOT Meeting - DBC-Canlubang
July 2, 2012
Members of the Board of Trustees of Don Bosco CollegeCanlubang met for their second meeting for School year
2011-12 on July 2, 2012 at the community room of the
Salesian Residence – DBC Canlubang. Fr. Roberto Roxas,
rector was formally introduced as its new member. The
Board recommended that the local house council take as an
agenda the master plan for DBC-Canlubang. Fr. Inocencio and
Fr. Bicomong were invited to assist the group in a meeting to
be held on July 25, 2012.
Registrars’ Meeting
July 2, 2012
Registrars of the different schools
gathered together for their annual
meeting at the MIC of the DBTIMakati City on July 2, 2012. They
reported on the trends in student
enrollment, cohort survival rate,
promotion rate, dropout rate,
repetition rate, and graduation rate
of their schools. A tracer study was
also presented by some of the
registrars.

6th IUS General Assembly
July 10-14, 2012
The VI IUS General Assembly was
convened at the Salesianum in Rome,
Italy on July 10-14 under the Leadership
of the new head of the IUS Department
of the Congregation, Bro. Mario Olmos.
There were about 60 participants from
19 countries.
Fr. Onofre Inocencio
(ODEA), Fr. Michael Laguardia (DBCCanlubang), and
Mr. Emmanuel
Guillermo (DB-PNG) represented the FIN
Province. Fr. Pascual Chavez addressed
the assembly at the beginning of the
assembly emphasizing the role of the
IUS for cultural transformation of
society. The Assembly took as task the
updating of its policies based on recent
directions of the congregation and the
Church. They formulated the common
program 2012-2016. Fr. Inocencio was
elected member of the IUS Board of
Directors 2012-2016.
Media Literacy Meeting
July 11, 2012
Fr. Noel Osial called together the point persons of media literacy program of the
schools in a gathering held on July 11, 2012 at the Conference room – Provincial
House Makati City. The participants were updated on the media literacy
education paradigms: models and approaches. Fr. Osial presented the approved
four-year Plan of Action (SY 2011-15) .
Pastoral Affairs Forum (Schools)
July 17, 2012
Asst. Principals for Pastoral Affairs with Fr. Renato de
Guzman, chair of the Pastoral Desk of ODEA gathered
together for their monthly meeting at the MIC of DBMakati City last July 17, 2012. Each of the participants
presented a status report of the pastoral program of
their schools. It was a good opportunity to benchmark
practices on pastoral activities carried out in each local
setting. Fr. Edwin Ulanday was also invited to present
the findings of his study on confession. Fr. de Guzman
shared with the group the curriculum for Christian
Living developed together with the teachers of DBTIMakati and DBTC-Mandaluyong last summer and
presently being implemented this school year 2012-13.

CEAP Summit on K-12 Program Transition Implementation
for Private Basic Education Administrators
July 12-13, 2012
Fr. Jose Dindo Vitug presented the Don Bosco K-12 model
to the participants of the CEAP Summit on K-12 Program
Transition Implementation for Private Basic Education
Administrators held at the Sister Kuniberta Hall, St.
Scholastica’s College, Manila on July 13, 2012. The
presentation was well appreciated by the participants as
they manifested interest in the model presented.

Fuse General Assembly Dr. Christopher Bernido and his wife Dr. Victoria Carpio – Bernido addressed the
July 24, 2012 members of FUSE in their monthly general assembly held at the FUSE-LCT Conference
Room, Orient Tower, Roxas Blvd, Manila on Jully 24, 2012. Dr. Bernido and his wife
were recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2010 for their innovative model of
the Dynamic Learning Program which he employed in uplifting the standard of a rural
school, the Central Visayan Institute Foundation (CVIF) in Jagna, Bohol. Dr. Bernido,
an alumnus of DBTC-Mandaluyong, received the “Natatanging Bosconian” award last
year’s DBTC graduation April, 2012.
Student Exchange Visit – Don Bosco School,
Hua Hin, Thailand
July 18, 2012
Fr. Inocencio finalized the student exchange
program with Fr. Dheparat, rector of Don Bosco
School in Hua Hin, Thailand last July 18, 2012. The
visit to Thailand is slated on Nov 10-17, 2012. About
15 students from DBTC-Mandaluyong, DBTI-Makati
and DBA-Pampanga will be selected to compose the
first group for this exchange visit. The exchange visit
aims to develop student’s cultural and international
understanding and appreciation for other cultures. It
would consist of immersion to the home, school and
community environment of their peers from
Thailand. A homestay, visit to various cultural places
and actual participation in class and school activities
would be particular features of this exchange
program.
SLA Organizational Meeting
July 20, 2012
A follow up meeting to organize the SLA 2012 was held at
DBA Pampanga on July 20, 2012. The different committees
gave updates on the work undertaken as decided in the
previous meeting. They finalized the program and distributed
assignments for the participating schools. Final organizational
meeting will be held on July 30, 2012 at the ODEA.

Observation of Math Classes (Grades 5 to 8)
DBTI Makati
July 23, 2012
Dr. Auxiencia Limjap together with Ms. Rosario
Zapata and the APAA of the high school
department conducted observation of a section
each of the Gr. 5 to Gr 8 Math classes. This is part
of the process in the development of the Math
Project – The Lesson Study. The classes were
taped recorded and a short conference with each
teacher observed was held after the classroom
observation conducted by the critics. The other
Don Bosco schools will soon be scheduled for the
visit.

July 24, 2012
The Principals of Don Schools held their regular monthly meeting at the ODEA
on July 24, 2012. Invited to the meeting were guests from the F & J Inc. who
shared with the group the reading program package they were offering for the
improvement of students’ reading comprehension. The principals opted for
the F&J reading program over the one offered by the SCHOLASTICS. Fr. Noel
Osial joined the group in the afternoon to report the progress in the media
literacy program being implemented in DB schools (FIN). It was also decided in
this meeting the immersion visit of the Principals and APAA/APTA to CVIF at
Jagna, Bohol on August 23-24, 2012.

They also discussed the issues on
the impact of the implementation

proposed some possible strategies
the two colleges can adopt.

Preparation of Math Common Test for the 1st Quarter Exams
July 28, 2012
Math teachers of Gr. 5 to Gr. 8 convened for a workshop to prepare the Math common tests for the first quarter
exams at the ODEA on July 8, 2012. This is an attempt to come with a standardized test to measure the students’
achievement upon implementation of the newly installed Math Program for Basic Education. Dr. Auxencia LImjap,
project leader of the Math Lesson Study in tandem with Ms. Rosario Zapata, the coordinator of Math teachers
facilitated the workshop.
