tank with Beluga whales.
While in Atlanta take your kids on a trip down memory lane at Varsity Drive-In. Order burgers

ocated on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan, The Windy City
offers families a rich, multicultural and cosmopolitan environment
alongside some of the best beaches in the country. Renowned for its
sports fans, beautiful lakeside setting and deep-dish pizza, this city is
great for family fun!
Family-Friendly Activities
SHEDD AQUARIUM – Dive into an
underwater world unlike anything your family
has ever experienced.
CHICAGO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM – Embark
on a learning adventure where play and
learning connect.
LINCOLN PARK ZOO – Check out the zoo’s
newest arrivals including two tiny takins, two
gorillas and a Moholi bush baby.
ADLER PLANETARIUM – Learn about current
NASA missions, discover the Milky Way and
investigate what lies beyond in nine exhibitions
and multiple theaters.
OAK STREET BEACH – Visit this kid-friendly
beach area to cool off on a hot day and
challenge the kids to a game of beach
volleyball or Frisbee.
Tips from Samantha
Oak Street beach is the family favorite because it has amenities
that the other beaches don’t have like restrooms, lifeguards and a
“Beachstro” for pick-me-up snacks and lunch.
Another great place to cool off is at the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. The fountain is
actually made of two large video screens on either side of a play area. The video shows faces of
people of all different ethnicities, but be careful; when their mouths open out comes the water! It’s
a place of joy and fun as the kids and adults take off their shoes and splash around.

The Mile High City may be best known as the gateway to the Rocky
Mountains, but family-friendly summer activities are aplenty, from
museums and gardens, to sporting events and food festivals.
Family-Friendly Activities
CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF DENVER –
Enjoy innovative and interactive Playscapes
and engaging daily programming.
ELITCH GARDENS THEME &
WATER PARK – Experience more than
45 rides and stunt shows.
DENVER MUSEUM OF NATURE
AND SCIENCE – Explore the natural
wonders of Colorado, Earth and the universe
through a variety of exhibitions, programs
and activities.
MORDECAI CHILDREN’S GARDEN AT
THE DENVER BOTANIC GARDENS –
Discover how plants and animals live
together on Marmot Mountain, hunt for
bugs in the Glorious Grasslands and observe
aquatic life at Pipsqueak Pond.
Tips from Samantha
Kids will get a thrill comparing their footprints with that of
dinosaurs that roamed the land over 68 million years ago. Dinosaur
Ridge is just 15 minutes outside of the city and has 100s of tracks to
explore and even the bones of a Stegosaurus and Brontosaurus.
The 16th Street Mall is a mile-long pedestrian promenade lined with shops, cafés and kidfriendly restaurants. There’s art and sculpture that kids will love. They can interact with things
like a herd of colorfully painted buffalo or outdoor pianos.

representing nearly 600 species, happily
living at this aquarium.
ALGIERS POINT FERRY RIDES –
Enjoy a ferry ride along the Mississippi
River to historic Algiers Point and stroll
the Jazz Walk of Fame.
CAFÉ DU MONDE – Savor New Orleans’
famous beignets covered with powdered
sugar.
AUDUBON BUTTERFLY GARDEN AND
INSECTARIUM – Discover 900,000-plus
known species of insects and their relatives.
Tips from Samantha
The gross-out factor always rates high with kids so while at the
Audubon Insectarium skip lunch and attend one of the show times
of Bug Appetite! You’ll be treated to a buffet of edible bugs like
“six-legged” salsa, “red beans and yikes” and chocolate “chirp” cookies.
Yes you can take your kids to a jazz club. The famous Preservation Hall has a family-friendly
policy of no drinking or smoking. Shows start at 8 PM which is pretty early for jazz musicians.
This is a great way to introduce your kids to an American treasure.

Family-Friendly Activities
SEAWORLD'S DISCOVERY COVE –

fish at this one-of-a-kind adventure.
ORLANDO SCIENCE CENTER –
Discover the mysteries of science and

GATORLAND – Fly down zip lines and get

110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve.
Tips from Samantha
Beating the crowds becomes a sport in Orlando. One way to do it
is if you’re staying within a theme park, see if you can see the
fireworks from your hotel. This allows you to leave the park before they
start, beat the crowds home and watch from the comfort of your own hotel. If you’re driving, you
can still see the fireworks from the parking lot and even hear the music.

Strict museum rules don’t apply here and kids will love seeing the
massive paintings while jumping, yelling and enjoying another museum no, no – eating ice cream.
Be sure to step into the lobby of the Comcast building to show your kids the largest television in

Tips from Samantha
El Mercado is a family must do! With piñatas dangling above,
gargantuan sombreros, guitars and Mexican candy, this is a shopping
experience both you and your kids will be delighted and energized by.
Just remember it’s nearly impossible to pack a piñata.

Tips from Samantha
Seaport Village is a totally stroll-able 14 acres along the water
with beautiful views. Parents love the unique shops and free
concerts on Sundays and kids can’t get enough of rides on a hand carved
carousel from 1895. There’s also a face painter and balloon artist to keep everyone entertained.
The GasLamp Quarter is the historic district and its compact 16 blocks makes it easy to walk
around. From here you can catch a friendly trolley ride to the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Gardens.
San Diego has a beach for everyone–even dogs! For a beach experience unlike any other head to

Tips from Samantha
The main “takeaway” of The City Museum is not to take yourself
so seriously. With history lessons like “Corn Dogs through the
Ages” and a rooftop Ferris Wheel called Big Eli even parents get to act
like kids again.
At the entrance of Grant Farm are the stables of the famed and beloved Budweiser
Clydesdales, home to around 25 Mares, geldings and even foals. Stand in the presence of
these massive gentle giants and find out the physical requirements needed to become a
Budweiser Clydesdale.

Tips from Samantha
The Discovery Room in the Museum of Natural History
is a mom favorite because it gives kids a chance to touch and
parents a place to sit down! Kids can feel the skin of an alligator, look at
skeletons and try on costumes from around the world. Arrive early in the morning or late in the
afternoon to avoid crowds.
Kayaking along the Potomac is a wonderful way for families to see the monuments of our Capital
from a completely different perspective. The Key Bridge Boathouse in Georgetown has been in
operation for 68 years and has two-person kayaks so parents can double up with younger children.
