Overall annual revenues for the sports industry exceed 550 billion euros worldwide, three times greater than the luxury industry. It is therefore not by chance that China recently chose sports as one of the five key industries to strengthen over the next ten years. In early 2015 France also announced, through the Secretary of Sport and the Ministry of the Economy, that the sports economy represents one of the country’s critical industries. These key indicators, when combined with the aging population and the rising demand for health/well-being, confirm that our industry has a bright future. Created in 2010 from a blank slate, our trade association has progressed at a steady pace to quickly become the leading outdoor industry association in Europe, uniting more than 330 member companies and providing them with several key opportunities: Shared services – Increased industry knowledge – Human resources, training, and education – Sustainable development and innovation. These combined benefits equip member companies with the necessary tools to face an increasingly competitive worldwide market, and make Outdoor Sports Valley a truly exceptional region for establishing and/or growing a business in the outdoor industry. In September 2015, OSV will host the Design Summer Camp, a new feature event in Europe for design, contributing to our role to help and provide support to entrepreneurs and managers in our industry. Never has the business environment in France been so favorable for entrepreneurs, and the success of our industry relies on the collaborative spirit created by our association, especially through the future OSV Campus (business incubator and accelerator). Only together will we go further faster. Through meetings with member companies, the committee determines the group projects to pursue. This is how the Textile Repair Center, the research study on ceramics, and the Innovation & Outdoor Test Center came to fruition. Members enjoy preferred pricing to help grow their business. The committee’s primary mission is to encourage outdoor industry companies to design environmentally-friendly innovative products and services. Via the Innovation & Sustainable Development committe, OSV also participates in developing local projects with the region’s key stakeholders. The committee is involved in environmental working groups with European organizations such as the European Outdoor Group (EOG) and other international organizations such as the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA). From September 14-18, 2015, design in sports will take center stage in Annecy (French Alps) and bring together the professions that contribute to product development and services (designers, engineers, graphic designers, managers) as well as the culture (musicians, film producers…) of the Action Outdoor Sports industry. These plastic bags have an extremely short lifecycle in our industry, since they are only used to protect textile products during transport. Systematically thrown away, hundreds of tons of plastic from our industry finish either in smoke or in the ocean. OSV offers member companies the chance to participate in the polybag working group and contribute to developing a better alternative solution. + designsummercamp.estia.fr THE • 4 BEST PRACTICES IDENTIFIED BY THE WORKING GROUP TO REDUCE A COMPANY’S IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT • QUICK AND EASY SOLUTIONS TO IMPLEMENT • CLOSELY MONITOR CHANGES IN REGULATIONS FOCUS ON THE TEXTILE REPAIR CENTER The Textile Repair Center will begin to offer garment repair services to brands, retailers, and consumers in the outdoor sports industry. The goal for this new repair center is to reduce the environmental and economic impact for brands by allowing them to offer textile repair services to their customer base, regardless of whether the original warranty is still in effect. OSV and its member companies participated in creating the center to ensure cost-effective high-quality repairs. THE • 20 TYPES OF REPAIRS AVAILABLE • DECREASE TRANSPORTATION COSTS • CREATE JOBS LOCALLY FOCUS ON THE CERAMICS STUDY A scientific research study analyzing the effects of ceramics on the human body is now available at a discount rate for OSV members. OSV, EuroSIMA, and Sporaltec financed the research conducted by the Université Savoie Mont-Blanc’s Physiology and Exercise Laboratory (LPE). Several garments were tested in different atmospheric conditions (warm, cold); the results provide key information on the effect ceramics have on thermoregulation, muscular oxygenation, skin micro-circulation, as well as subjective perceptions and strength indices. • MAINTAIN LOCAL EXPERTISE AND KNOW-HOW 16 GOVERNANCE & TESTIMONIALS DIRECTORS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Jean-Luc Diard Hoka Europe, CEO [President] Oversight and coordination for all projects Jean-Marc Pambet Salomon, CEO [Vice-President] International relations & Sustainable development Pascal Aymar EMLYON, Director Sports Unit [Vice-President] Business incubation & support 17 Philippe Gallay TSL Outdoor, CEO Business services and professional trade shows Patrick Giraudon Nic Impex, CEO Business services and professional trade shows Jean-Marc Decloitre Nord-Ouest Distribution, CEO Education and employment Michel Gaillard Scott Sports, CFO [Treasurer] Frédéric Vernet Columbia Sportswear, HR Director Education and employment Benjamin Thaller Julbo, Marketing Director [Secretary] Sporting and professional events Jérôme Elbaz The North Face, Director, France Sporting and professional events Michel Rayot Tecnica Group France, Consultant Annecy Tourism Office, President Innovation Frédéric Mouyade Patagonia, Sales Director International relations & Sustainable development Roland Pesty Sporaltec, President Innovation & Partnership with Sporaltec Frédéric Basse EuroSIMA, President [Associate administrator] Partnership with EuroSIMA Xavier Gallot-Lavallée Cluster Montagne, President [Associate administrator] Partnership with Cluster Montagne HONORARY DIRECTORS TESTIMONIALS Founding members of OSV’s board of directors, they are called upon to lead specific projects. “Snowleader was one of the first retailers to join OSV.
