FAMILY FUN DAY
The Painesville Township Trustees will host the Township’s
first community-wide event since our Bicentennial
celebration in 2000. We will host a Family Fun Day on
Saturday August 23, from 11 am to 6 pm. This community
celebration will be held at the Lake County History and
Heritage Center. Please see inside the newsletter for details.
Also see our Facebook page for up to date information.
Come out and join your neighbors for a great day of family
activities!
RIVERSIDE TRAFFIC PATTERNS CHANGE
The Riverside Local School District is changing the traffic
pattern at the High School campus to provide better traffic
flow for student drop off and pick up. One of the major
investments that the District is making is to build an additional
driveway on the east side of the campus. In addition, the
campus will have new traffic patterns to enter, drop off
and pick up students, and to exit the property. The student
parking lot will also be paved and painted with parking lines
to increase the number of parking spots available. Please
see the Riverside Local School District web site for detailed
information. http://www.painesville-township.k12.oh.us.
Parents are encouraged to use the new access to the campus
and not park in the neighborhood streets when picking
their students up. Please be aware of these changes, and
have patience the first couple of weeks while we get settled
into the new traffic flow.
OHIO ATV LAWS
The Ohio Revised Code specifies laws that govern the
operation of snowmobiles, off-highway motorcycles, ATV’s
and all-purpose vehicles. Below are a few of the laws that
address these vehicle operations:
•
•
No riding on limited access highways or freeways
or the right-of-ways thereof, except for emergency
travel.
Not on any private property, or in any nursery or
planting area, without the permission of the owner
•
•
•
or other person having the right to possession of the
property.
Not on any land or waters controlled by the state,
except at those locations where a sign has been
posted permitting such operations.
Not on the track or right-of-way of any operating
railroad.
Not during the time from sunset to sunrise, unless
displaying lights as required by law.
Please remember that just because a multi-purpose vehicle
bears the proper identification and current tags, it does not
mean that it is street legal. If you have additional questions,
please contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
A NEW TOWNSHIP MAGAZINE
This fall we will publish a magazine that will feature the
residents, businesses, and amenities of Painesville Township.
The magazine is a one-time publication, and will be mailed
to all residents of the Township. There is no cost for this
magazine for either residents or the Township. Look for it
in your mailbox this fall.
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
It is generally recommended by planning and zoning
professionals that townships in Ohio attempt to update
their Comprehensive Plans every 5 to 7 years. Our current
Comprehensive Plan was published in 2007. Traditionally
the Board of Trustees will appoint members of our residential
and business community to serve on a committee which will
work side by side with the Painesville Township Board of
Trustees, the Painesville Township Zoning Commission, the
Painesville Township Zoning Inspector and the Lake County
Department of Planning & Community Development in
assembling an updated Comprehensive Plan. All persons
who have a sincere interest in serving on a Comprehensive
Plan Committee are asked to place on file with the Township
Administrator a letter of interest. The Board of Trustees may
consider forming a Committee in the fall of 2014 with a
target publication of an updated Comprehensive Plan by
mid-2015 at the latest.

SURFACE WATER IMPROVEMENT FUND GRANT
Painesville Township has been awarded a grant from the
Ohio EPA to modify and expand the parking lot at the Hardy
Road Fire Station. This grant, obtained in cooperation with
the Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc., will enable us to
add additional parking using a permeable pavement surface
that will improve stormwater treatment. The additional
parking is needed for the many training meetings the fire
department hosts, and for community events at the fire
station such as our annual Holiday Party in December.
RECYCLING OPTION
Buckeye Industries, located at 402 N. Lake St. in Madison
accepts aluminum, tin, plastic, cardboard, and paper.
Paper for shredding can be dropped off between 8:30 am
and 4:00 pm during the week. Buckeye Industries is a
workshop for developmentally disabled adults. Feel free
to call Deb White at 440-428-0042 for more information.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Painesville Township Fire Department has been awarded
a custom Mobile Command Center (MCC). The award
came through the Lake County Emergency Management
Agency, using a Homeland Security Radiological Responses
Grant. The Mobile Command Center is part of our countywide shared services program. Painesville Township owns
and houses the vehicle. The Mobile Command Center
is available to be used by all of the communities in Lake
County. The unit has two command areas in it that enable
the crew to manage multiple tasks. We are in the process of
outfitting the vehicle with equipment purchased with grant
monies. The MCC will have mobile cameras, computers,
multi-band radios and other electronics as needed to
complete its mission. Since we are a nuclear county we
are recognized as having unique concerns. Within the unit,
we have 4 radiological portal monitors; they look like walk
through metal detectors and are used to detect radio-activity.
The Perry Nuclear Power plant is not the only radiological
concern we have, as a dirty bomb with radio-active material
within it, when exploded could contaminate people and
the area. Lake County might not be too concerned with this
sort of attack but the City of Cleveland is, and we are part of
a response plan to aid in the event of such an attack.
The MCC is not just a fire department asset. You may also
see the unit at major public events being used by law
enforcement agencies as a mobile command post. The
Health District might use it at vaccination sites.
The Mobile Command Center is based at the Hardy Road
Fire Station. Feel free to stop by and see it.
SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The Trustees would like to congratulate our Service Director,
Bill Thompson on celebrating 35 years of dedicated service to
Painesville Township! Many of us know Bill for his positive,
can-do approach to helping residents. Bill’s vast knowledge
of our Township, and the many challenges we have for
maintaining our roads and infrastructure is a great asset.
The brush, leaf and yard waste drop off area is open on
Wednesdays from 7:30 am until 3:00 pm and on Saturdays
from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
During the month of November, the drop off area will be
open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 3:00 pm
and on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
There will be two curbside leaf collections this fall. The
first will be on Saturday November 8th and the second one
will be on Saturday December 6th. These collections are for
bagged leaves only, and brush will not be picked up. Leaves
must be placed in recyclable bags. Loose piles and plastic
bags will not be accepted.
In early June, State Auditor David Yost unveiled the Shared
Services Program for Lake County at a short ceremony in
Mentor. Painesville Township’s Service Department is part
of this program that will allow and encourage both the
sharing of services and purchases among the Cities, Villages
and Township Service Departments in Lake County.
We are pleased to report that Painesville Township has
quickly taken advantage of this program. We have
purchased a Vertical Trench Shoring safety system to be
used during storm sewer repair and installation projects.
We partnered with Concord Township, Madison Township,
Perry Township and Fairport Harbor to purchase this piece
of safety equipment.
During the past two winter snowplowing seasons, we have
also worked with Concord Township and Perry Township
on sharing snowplowing routes on roads that pass through
the adjoining Townships.
