WATERING RESTRICTIONS In order to maintain water levels in our reservoirs, please adhere to the following guidelines when watering your lawn: Hours: 6am - 10am and/or 6pm -10pm daily A) Even numbered residences on even numbered calendar days. B) Odd numbered residences on odd numbered calendar days. Black Knot Disease is a fungus that produces spores and is easily spread if left unattended. If spotted early, pruning during late fall, winter or very early spring can help control Black Knot and save your tree! If you suspect your tree may have Black Knot, please feel free to contact the Town Office at (780) 385 -3977 - and we can have Public Works verify for you. Volunteer Firefighters still needed. Call Joe Knievel for more info. 780-385-1014 May 1-7, 2016 Page 2 Fire Pit Permits Bylaw #797A requires a Fire Pit Permit for all in-ground fire pits, outdoor fireplaces and stationary barbeques within Killam. If you have recently added or replaced a fire pit, please renew your permit. If you have purchased a home with a fire pit, please check with the Town Office to verify a current permit is on file. Minimum fine for non-compliance is $250 - up to $2,000! Permit Fee is $10 Did you Know that… *Dog feces can be hazardous to the health of children and other pets? * One of the most common forms of disease transmission between dogs is through dog feces? * Responsible pet owners pick up after their pets― even if no one else is around to see? * The Ball Diamonds do not double as a Dog Run? Please Be a Responsible Pet Owner! Killam Health Care Board 5K Walk/Run for Health Saturday, June 4, 2016 Join the Killam Health Care Board at the starting line! Visitors to the Town of Killam can see Residents are proud of having such a beautiful community! With winter’s snow gone, people are busy cutting and trimming, preparing for the growing season ahead. Once again, Compost Bins will be located east of the Water Treatment Plant - behind the Hospital and School. Please Note: these bins are for un-bagged leaves and grass ONLY. There is also a branch bin in the same area as the Grass and Leaf Compost Bin—This is to be used for small branches! Please do not place stumps or large pieces of wood in this bin! NO HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE PLEASE! Using the bins properly will ensure our community keeps its good reputation! Page 3 Memorial Tree Program If you would like to pay tribute to a loved one that has passed away by plan ng a tree in their memory, this program may be for you. In 2014, there were 6 memorial trees purchased and planted along the walking trail in Heritage Park. 3 tree types available to choose from and a commemora ve plaque will be erected adjacent to the tree. Animal Control - Bylaw #815 Cats and Dogs within the Town of Killam: • MUST Be Licensed annually (if over 6mnths of age) • MUST Be under the control of the Owner when on property other than their own: • • - Dogs must be on a leash, not more the 2m in length - Cats must remain on their Owners property MUST Have Owners responsible for removal of their pets’ defecation MUST Not annoy or disturb the peace of others (excessive barking) * Fines range from $100 to $2,500 * The cost to release a pet impounded by the Town is $25 for the first day, $15 per day following. Killam Public Library Coming this Summer...Watch for Details! Summer Reading Program KILLAM COMMUNITY CALENDARS Community Calendars will soon be up for renewal again this year. Please contact the Library @ 780-385-3032 or any board member if you would like to renew, purchase a new one or update what is already on them. They are very reasonably priced at $12 each. This is a major fund raiser and we appreciated each and every one that is purchased to help us continue to operate. * Full details of Bylaw #815 are online at: www.town.killam.ab.ca Flagstaff Food Bank (5014 – 46 Street, Killam) The Flagstaff Food Bank provides many services to families located within Flagstaff County. - Open Tuesday and Thursday mornings for hamper pickups (11:00 am) * Hampers requests must be made one day prior, by phoning 780-385-0810 - Gently used furniture and appliances are accepted, call 780-385-2419 or 780-385-0810to make Arrangements - Garden produce is always welcome and appreciated! - Monetary donations (payable to the Flagstaff Food Bank) can be mailed to: Flagstaff Food Bank P.O. Box 68 Killam, AB T0B 2L0 All meat donations must be processed through a licensed meat packing facility and can be tax receipted at fair market value. If a live animal is donated, the Food Bank is prepared to pay the meat processing costs – contact 780-385-2419 for more information.
