Go for it – by air!
Of course we have our own regional airport – Jönköping Airport – with
both domestic and international connections, both scheduled and charter.
A regular route to Frankfurt opened in 2015 with two daily departures.
We’ve had a 10-week long charter window between Düsseldorf and
Jönköping Airport each summer for many years. A stopover enables us to
reach a large part of Europe’s travelers.
Car rental firms are standing by at the airport, but it is also easily accessible
by bus or train. Or why not just come in by foot with your hiking boots
on? Dumme Mosse nature reserve is located right next to the airport and
offers a mythical trip down to Jönköping. Adventure is always close at hand
in Northern Småland, no matter how you choose to travel.

Our region in northern Småland is endowed with
everything a tour operator could wish for. You could
say it’s a package tour that nature created on its
own. Features include one of Europe’s largest lakes,
a beautiful island and rolling countryside packed
with goodies from history – castles, ruins, churches,
legends and archeological sites. Add the white striped
“Polkagrisen” candy that was twirled here for the first
time in 1859, and you’ll have all the ingredients for a
successful overall concept.

Småland is one of Sweden’s most moose-dense regions,
both in terms of moose enclosures and the number of
moose in the forest. Almost 30,000 moose are moving
around in Småland. A safe and exciting way to get close
to them is to visit a moose park.

Many of our cabins are close to the lake
and to swimming and fishing areas;
several cabins have their own jetty and
boat. The cabins are situated in areas of
particular natural beauty, the perfect
backdrop for hiking, biking and other
outdoor activities.
We offer cabins and houses in beautiful natural
surroundings in Småland. The cabins have a kitchen
or pantry equipped for self-catering, and a WC with
shower. Most of them have a TV and many have an
open fireplace or stove. Post-visit cleaning and sheets/
towels are not included in the rent but can usually be
purchased if desired.
You can stay on the water’s edge with a jetty and your
own boat, in the forest close to woodland trails, or in a
more urban milieu close to shopping and restaurants –
it’s up to you.
We offer accommodations in all price classes –
everything from the small, basic cabin to the large,
modern house.
To ensure that you can feel secure about your choice of
holiday accommodations, we inspect all cabins before
listing them among our offerings. We want to provide
a true description and correct information about the
cabin. We comply with the general terms and conditions of cabin and apartment rental that have been
adopted by the Swedish Tourism Trade Association in
consultation with the Swedish Consumer Agency.

Grand Hotel Jönköping
Kröken is a nineteenth-century farm in Emhult. The
main house has a dining room that seats up to 24
people. In 1998, we installed our fine SPA center,
with a real Finnish wood-fired sauna. We later added
a wood-fired hot tub to the spa.
Our new guest house opened in the summer of
2013, featuring 4 duplex rooms, where each unit can
accommodate 4–5 people. There is a bedroom with
three single beds upstairs, while the lower floor has a
bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom.

The Hultet Village Museum, “Gammelbyn Hultet,”
just north of Tranås, is the result of merchant Arvid
Jonas’ (1905–1988) lifelong interest in his community
and its history. He arranged to have about twenty
old wooden houses moved to Hultet from the region
around beautiful Lake Sommen and filled them with
period items.
The buildings, with their furnishings and equipment,
tell the story of the agricultural heritage in Sweden,
describing life on the farm from the eighteenth century
to the early twentieth century.

Visitors get to experience a piece of Swedish history
and see how people lived in Sweden in the past.

A fantastic experience! These thrilling hot air balloon

Panning for gold – for real.
Feel the gold fever creep up on you as you pan for your
own grains of gold in Ädelfors. The Guldström family
are Sweden’s most experienced gold miners. For over
45 years they have been teaching the art of panning
for gold.
Gold was found as early as 1737 at the village of Ädelfors, also the site of Sweden’s first gold mine.

Habo Church is one of the most remarkable churches
in Sweden. The entire interior of the church is filled
with paintings illustrating Martin Luther’s catechism.
Habo Church acquired its current appearance in 1723,
but there have been churches on this site from the
1100s on.
Remaining in Habo even today there are still clear
traces of the class system that the church in earlier
times made use of: galleries for the wealthy and
benches for the lower classes.
The church is open year-round.
There are some wooden sculptures from the Middle

High Chaparral is an amusement park in the middle of

Kleva Mine is by far the most beautiful visitor mine in
Sweden. The history of Kleva Mine started at the end
of the seventeenth century. First copper was extracted,
then nickel, until 1920.
Since 1991, Kleva Mine has been a tourist attraction
set up as a visitor mine, which is why the working
environment has been arranged so as to be as authentic
as possible. The mine is located in a beautiful Småland
forest area. From the top of the mountain, visitors can

No product has made Sweden and Jönköping so well
known around the world as the safety match. Its history is a drama with many players and ingredients.
In 1848 Johan and Carl Lundström built a match
factory on the shores of Lake Vättern. The Lundström
brothers were children of their time. They traveled
extensively in Europe and were impressed by the industries they saw there. That’s what they wanted to do in
their hometown of Jönköping!
Johan was an engineer and Carl was a businessman.
They were both strong-willed and highly ambitious.
Smoke from the steam engines and sulfur ovens soon
rose from the factory chimneys. They had laid the

foundation to a major industry. Small sticks in colorful
boxes would spread Jönköping’s name all over the world.
The Match Museum is housed in a wooden building
from 1848 that was the first match factory in Jönköping. Visitors see the machines and meet the people
who built up the match industry and developed it into
a global company, including matchstick worker Lena
Törnqvist – a woman whose fate was caught up in the
transition between the old and the new society. Lena
suffered from phosphorus necrosis, an occupational
disease that afflicts people who work with phosphorus.

Store Mosse is one of southern Sweden’s largest national parks and the largest raised bog south of Lapland.
The National Park occupies close to 8,000 hectares. It
includes a visitors’ center – “naturum” – which contains an exhibit and information about nature. Naturum
also serves as the reception for the Store Mosse youth
hostel. Naturum is a water hole for nature lovers, and
provides inspiration to visitors to get out and explore
the National Park, on their own or as part of a guided
group.
The park contains 40 km of hiking trails, of which
3 km are wheelchair-accessible. The National Park
is home to many species of animals an birds. Moose
and nesting cranes, for example, are plentiful. Several
bird-watching towers. The eagles feeding station during
winter can be observed live or at the web cam monitor
in naturum. Experience that unique wilderness
feeling out on the great open expanses. Berry- and
mushroom-picking are allowed. Free admittance to
naturum and to the National Park.
Naturum offers guided tours of its exhibit “14,000
years in 45 minutes,” for a fee, guided snowshoe excursions during the summer away from the hiking trails, as
well as adventure hikes and guided theme hikes.

lesson in geology, cultural history, unique plants, bats
and other animals. Visitors may borrow a mining

How to make it happen?
Specializing in genuine adventures for 4–15 people,
with capacity to accommodate up to 25. The activities
last 1–20 hours. We have something for everyone,
regardless of fitness level. We often travel by dogsled
via adventure stations to a campfire at the big Sami
tent – kåta – at Hökensås. The activities are rounded
out with a hearty meal cooked on the campfire, boiled
coffee or a home-made snack.

Vandalorum is a museum for regional, national and international contemporary art and design. Vandalorum,
which opened its doors in 2011, was built according to
an original design by world-renowned Italian architect
Renzo Piano. Piano was inspired, partly by local
building traditions, but primarily by the monumental
red drying barn that once stood on the site.
Vandalorum has a total exhibition surface of 1100
square meters, distributed in three halls. Barn 1 houses
Vandalorum’s and current art and design exhibits. In
Barn 2, the Småland Art Archives mounts temporary
exhibits and shows its collections in the so-called
Studio Archives – a collection of about 1500 works of
art associated with Småland. The Galleria houses art
and design exhibits and can also be used for conferences
and other events.
The Syltan restaurant at Vandalorum is an attraction
in itself. The restaurant serves meals prepared from the
very best fresh ingredients. The Syltan also offers a large
assortment of pastries that make a fine accompaniment
to a cup of espresso.
Vandalorum’s design shop is full of good design at
“Småland-type” prices (in other words, extremely
reasonable!). Visitors to the design shop can find design
and art books, original prints, ecological children’s toys,
postcards, posters, souvenirs and design products by
some of the foremost Nordic designers.

group always enriches the stay in a particular place and
creates substantial added value.
After a lengthy bus or car trip, let a walk through the
city be your much-needed leg-stretcher and get to
know Jönköping at the same time. You can combine
your walking tour with a tour of the Match Museum
(Tändsticksmuseet). This showcases the cradle of the
world industry that developed in the mid-1800s based
on a 4-cm-long wooden pin.
Those who have chosen to stay overnight in Jönköping
might want to book an evening walk instead.
Your guide will show your our city and talk about
its interesting history, give you some key facts, and
regale you with tall tales and future visions alike. This
will make your overnight stay something beyond the
ordinary.

Åsens By takes the visitor more than 100 years back
in time to a small Småland village at the turn of the
century. The village illustrates older agricultural practices, and the animals kept in the village are all of old
Swedish country breeds. The village and its environs
invite visitors to relax and just wander through the unique, untouched countryside. Various activities relating
to country life are arranged at Åsens By.
