Springboard UK - the Charity’s subsidiary - works with, and for, the industry to improve perceptions, promote the industry as a great place to work and help attract fresh talent. In doing so, it helps to fill skills shortages, attract talent and raises funds to support the vital work of the Charity. Furthermore, we help our individual investors and business partners address their Human Resource or Corporate Responsibility priorities effectively. Springboard has a successful track record in this area and provide imaginative solutions that demonstrate a real return on investment via our high impact products and services. charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 3 6/20/2014 4:33:04 PM MORE ABOUT THE SPRINGBOARD CHARITY Our Youth and IntoWork programmes engage and encourage those leaving education, job seekers and returners to work into a prospective career within hospitality, leisure and tourism. I was lucky to get on The Galvin’s Chance programme run by Springboard. It gave me the training, motivation and the opportunity to work in the hospitality industry. If I didn’t get this chance I imagine I would be back in prison by now.”background so that we make a lasting and sustainable impact. ” OLA ADENIJI Galvin's Chance Beneficiary RAC Club charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 5 ” 6/20/2014 4:33:09 PM FutureChef is Springboard’s national programme designed to help young people learn to cook, gain vital work experience and find out about career opportunities in the culinary field. For the industry, it provides an invaluable pipeline of talent to fill future vacancies and an opportunity to be associated with a programme that casts its net extensively with professional chefs, colleges, suppliers, operators and, of course, the future workforce. “ ” “ I have been fortunate enough to be involved with this competition since its inception and I know what an impact it has had across the UK. Every year the number of students that engage in both the competition and programme is substantial and they, in turn, are acquiring the vital skills of being able to use fresh ingredients and cook wholesome food. ” BRIAN J TURNER CBE FutureChef Chairman charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 6 6/20/2014 4:33:10 PM “ April took part in FutureChef 2009 and decided to pursue a cheffing career as a result. The programme provides young people with supported entry into their first step on the career ladder. Designed to help the industry attract more young people and talent spot, it involves a concentrated three week programme of preparation for work, short skills courses, and structured work experience with a view to move into employment or apprenticeships on completion. charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 8 6/20/2014 4:33:15 PM “” “ Embarking on the KickStart Programme was genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It not only cemented my interest in the hospitality industry, but allowed me to achieve relevant qualifications and experience which I know have been key to my success in post-placement interviews. The mentors have supported me by organising interviews, offering advice and always show interest in my progression. Springboard helped develop Jack’s confidence and he secured a job in Food and Beverage with Novotel. “” “ Throughout my life I have found it hard to express myself and I struggled at school. It provides life-changing opportunities and a fresh start for those involved. The brainchild of Chris Galvin and Fred Siriex, Galvin's Chance is aimed at young people living on deprived estates, exposed to gang culture and gun & knife crime. The programme started in London, funded by the Mayfair Park & Tower challenge - a charity 5K run followed by a climb up 25 floors of the Hilton Park Lane, to Galvin's at Windows. The programme was recently introduced in Edinburgh. charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 12 6/20/2014 4:33:21 PM “ When he was younger, Jamal got involved in a gang which led to time in prison. He was released in 2009 wanting to change his life, but with no family around him and a criminal record meant this was not easy. ” He was referred to The Galvin’s Chance programme run by Springboard, where he was given the skills and opportunity to find a good job with the support of a mentor to keep him on track. He now works in one of the world’s most famous stores and is proud of the way his life has improved. Face2Face supports them into employment and will ultimately prepare them for successful independent living. IWISH (INTO WORK IN SCOTTISH HOSPITALITY) iWiSH is a flexible programme which introduces, trains and inspires new staff to find careers in hospitality, tourism and leisure. In 2013 the programme helped 84 people secure hospitality jobs in the Highlands and Islands. charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 14 6/20/2014 4:33:24 PM Learning for Life was started by Diageo in South America to help get people into work by providing structured training and life-skills in four key areas: Hospitality, Bartending, Retailing and Entrepreneurship. To date in South America, 75,000 students have participated, with 75% of graduates gaining employment after completing their course. Given Diageo's significant manufacturing presence in Scotland, the programme in Scotland has been extended to include manufacturing, and the hospitality and bartender sectors have been merged. Springboard (Scotland) is the Programme Manager for Projects Bartender and Hospitality: delivering the first Diageo Learning for Life course to be run in Europe (Glasgow Jan-Feb 2014). Projects Bartender and Hospitality prepares individuals over the age of 18, by equipping them with the key life skills and technical skills to embark on a career in bartending and the wider hospitality arena, recognising the significant job opportunities for young people generated by leisure and tourism. The programmes are designed to boost confidence and remove all barriers that stop the young person from working, aiming to lower youth unemployment in Scotland and give the sector a skills boost with fresh new talent. Participants are trained in bar-tending, hospitality service skills, cocktails, beer & cellar quality, wines & spirits service and learn the art of teamwork and communication skills. In addition to Project Bartender in Glasgow Jan-Feb 2014, Springboard was also the Programme Manager for Jobs for 2014 (training 100 young people to work at the Commonwealth games) and is Programme Manager for Project Bartender and Hospitality courses running May-September 2014 in Glasgow, Dumbarton, Inverness, Edinburgh, Perth, Fife, Dundee and Stirling. charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 15 6/20/2014 4:33:24 PM HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE? charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 16 ....By becoming a: Business Partner Life Patron (individuals) Corporate Patron Sponsor Adopting us as a Charity 6/20/2014 4:33:24 PM “ ” “ Springboard touches many individuals and it can change peoples’ lives for the better - but it is also good for UK Plc and good for the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry. ” STEPHEN MOSS CBE Springboard Chairman charity_bookletv5AP2.indd 17 6/20/2014 4:33:26 PM BECOMING A BUSINESS PARTNER Springboard’s Business Partnership is open to employers who actively invest in their people.
