MAPPLEWELL & WOMBWELL weekly classes no need to wait to join, just
check availability for the day and venue for you. A ll our classes follow the
same format at each shop, with helpful, friendly tutors!
Patchwork and Quilting Essentials £40 each block of x 4 or £12.50 PAYG
Project based suitable for the beginner/those wanting to improve existing
skills in Patchwork and Quilting. A minimum 4 week session making a Nine
Patch Cushion, a Bag, finish with a lap quilt. You then decide what next to
develop your skills. We have lots of samples to inspire you including bags,
quilts, cushions and table runners.

New Starters Welcome! Our Tutor Caroline has a wealth of knowledge having
worked in a variety of roles including professional fashion designer to running
her own sewing school. If you haven’t touched a machine for years and are
wanting to pick up again, are a complete beginner or simply keen to learn to
be a dressmaker then this is the class for you! Over 4 weeks you will cover
the following topics:





Get to know your machine for Complete Beginners
Envelope Cushion/Messenger Bag
Using a Pattern and Pattern Cutting
Dressmaking e.g. A line Skirt, shift dress or top, children’s clothes
Intermediates/Advanced can work at their own pace and on own projects too

Calling all crafters! We have d rop in sessions for you to work on your own
projects in your own time. This is not a teacher led class but the chance to sit
and sew amongst fellow enthusiasts who help each other with lots of fun and
laughs! You can also use this time to work on other projects such as Crochet
or paper crafts.

If you have quilt tops that need to be quilted but are too big to do easily in
your home machine, and you would like to complete the ‘quilting journey
yourself then we have a solution: you can finish those quilts on our NEW
Simply Sixteen Long-arm machine yourself! Oh Sew Sweet are proud to own
Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen and Sweet 16 quilting machines that are
available for rent. Take a certification class, learn how to use the machines,
then rent time to use the machines to do your quilting.
All About ME (Machine Embroidery Group) £10
Dates: Saturday 17 th Sept, 15 th Oct, 19 th November 10.30am-2.30pm
(3 rd Saturday each month)
Meets monthly group for newbies, novices and
experienced machine stitches and experimental
embroiderers. Share tips, ask questions, revisit old
skills and learn new ones but NO Tutor.
Farmers Wife Sew Along with Janet B £50 per 4 week block (continuous)
Dates: Starts Friday 16th September 9.30am – 12.30pm
Janet is back with a sampler quilt from the 1920’s which
consists of 111 6” blocks! There are so many to choose from
but she will begin with 4 blocks per week in 4 weekly chunks.
This means you can opt in and out of the 4 weekly sessions.
Skills developed will be Foundation Piecing using freezer paper, accurate
piecing of rotary cut blocks, setting a quilt on point and quilt as you go.

Cathedral Window Cushion with Graham £30.00 (Fabric not Inc.)
Dates: Saturday 1st October 10am-4pm
Join our great new cushion class, learn new
skills and take home something fabulous!
You will be introduced to the technique known
as ‘The Cathedral Window’ technique, which is
like the origami of the fabric world, and
consists of clever layering and stitching. The same design and technique is
also widely used for pin cushions and can be repeated many times for
quilting. The result is an amazing, complex looking design which in reality is
quite easy to achieve. Why not use some lovely Christmas fabric for a cushion
with a difference?

Mastering Your Overlocker Mini Master Class with Caroline £22.50 threads inc
Dates: Saturday 8 th October 1.00pm – 4pm
A popular class with Caroline. Lots of help and advice on
how to get to grips with your own over locker. Includes,
understanding the basic stitch – which bit does what!
Needle threading (4 colour…yes 4!) and using your tools.
Testing your stitches, how to adjust – what the dial and
levers do, changing tensions easily, differential feeds,
cutting widths and stitch length plus any queries you may
have Caroline will have the answer .

to use as a large everyday bag and
spacious enough to be suitable as an

Simple Winter Tunic with Caroline £35 (inc free pattern)
Dates: Saturday 12th November 10.00pm – 4.00pm
Learn how to make a gorgeous tunic dress: don't panic: no
zips! This can be worn in loads of different ways and just in
time for those dark nights and wooly tights! I t can be smart
or casual depending on your fabric, wear it loose or pull it
in with a belt. Suitable for those that have basic experience
of a sewing machine but dressmaking experience is not
needed. You'll even get to take your paper pattern home
with you so you can make it again in a different fabric! You
can also alter the length of the dress to suit you & even
turn it into a top, Caroline will show you how.

Free Motion! Always strikes fear into the quilter as it
can be so daunting. Why not come along to this skills
builder workshop and develop skills other than the
scribble. We will discuss design ideas and practice skills
techniques. Suitable for all levels.
Fabulous Fabric Appliqued Basket with Jane Lightfoot £42.50

Jane is based in Nottingham and we are very pleased to
welcome her to our shop. She loves to create beautiful textiles
and teach others to do the same.
These appliqued baskets would make perfect Christmas gifts
or to keep for yourself. Jane will go through a number of
techniques and you will go home with a fabulous handmade
item.
Quilting Bee (Block of the Month) with Graham £15.00

A monthly group meeting to work on a fabulous block per month . Lots of new
skills to learn and this quilts uses Quilt as You Go Method .

Sunday Sewing Sessions Workshops@ WOMBWELL
Advanced Overlocker Class with Caroline £32.50
Dates: Sunday 16 th October 10.30pm – 4pm
Build on previous skills learnt with Caroline, topics
covered include rolled hem, flat Lock and other
stitches, stitching with jersey and maintenance. A
small project will be worked on to help develop skills.
This will be a top or skirt edged with Chiffon.
Fit- Alter-Recycle with Caroline £30
Dates: Sunday 27 th November 10.30am – 4.00pm
Do you have clothes you like but don’t wear or they don’t fit right and need
altering? You may love the fabric but the style is outdated? Then this course is
for you, Caroline will take you through how to alter and fit garments so you can
enjoy wearing them again. Pick up tricks on how to recycle such as making a
man’s shirt into a beautiful feminine top and create the wardrobe you always
wanted.
Crochet with Sam Lindley @ Just Because…Amigurumi Animals £25.00 (Kit
Inc.)
Dates: Sunday 4 th December 10.30am- 2.30pm
Come along and learn the Japanese art of Amigurumi enjoy crocheting a small cute stuffed animal to take
home. Your kit will include an easy to follow pattern,
crochet hook and darning needle, yarn, stuffing and a
stitch marker. You only need knowledge of a single and
a double crochet and will work in a circle, increasing
and decreasing as you go along to make your cute little friend. Sam is in the
process of designing some new Christmas themes…so picture is only a
representation.

It is advisable to bring your own cottons, bobbins, scissors etc. to all classes. Please
check beforehand for a full list of requirement’s per class
Some equipment is available within classes such as rotary cutters and mats, however
there is often not enough to go around a full class so you will
therefore be required to share.
We like to encourage you to bring your own machine but please
ensure it is in full working order. Our Janome Machines are available to hire, please
check availability before class

residential side street. Wombwell Train Station is 2 minutes away which also has free car
parking. We are just off JCT 36 of the M1 motorway towards Elsecar Heritage Centre and
Cortonwood Retail Park.
