We want to invite you all
to join us at one of our favorite
summertime events, the Seventh
Annual Petaluma Music Festival on Saturday, August 2nd.
The Petaluma Music Festival is a non-profit organization whose mission
is to keep music in our Petaluma public schools. The Board of Directors and
sponsors of the Petaluma Music Festival believe passionately in the positive
influence of music in all children’s lives, and want to ensure public school
music programs have a consistent and lasting funding support.
Last year the Petaluma Music Festival, which took place at the SonomaMarin fairgrounds, was a huge success and raised $20,000 for our Petaluma
area public school music programs. The Festival’s profits have increased
remarkably over the previous years and organizers expect to increase
donations to the schools each year as the festival becomes more popular.
This year is sure to be a success with 12 fantastic bands on three stages.
Festival highlights include a variety of specialty food, merchandise, and
local business vendors.
Everyone is sure to have a great time, come and join us.

Gum
Disease
FAQs
What Is TMD?
5 things you should know
Temporomandibular Joint
Disorder (TMD) is an umbrella
term used to describe a
constellation of symptoms related
to the joints located in front of
your ears that hinge your jaws.
They are close to nerves, muscles,
connective tissues, and ligaments.
Symptoms can include
earaches, facial or head pain,
ringing and popping of the ears,
difficulty “clearing” your ears,
dizziness, tender jaw muscles,
restricted jaw opening, and
clicking or grinding jaw joints.
All can be intensified by a bad
bite, teeth clenching or grinding,
tooth trauma, or impacted
wisdom teeth.
Today the majority of patients
with TMD achieve a high level of
relief from their symptoms with
noninvasive conservative therapy –
including simple dental appliances.
Talk with us the next time you’re
in, or give us a call to arrange a
special appointment. We’ll be
happy to consult with you on your
symptoms and review treatment
options specific to your smile.
What Is Gum Disease?
Gum disease is an inflammatory bacterial disorder that can appear without
symptoms and eventually leads to swollen bleeding gums that pull away from
your teeth, tooth loss, and the destruction of the ligaments and bone that
support your teeth.
Am I At Risk For Gum Disease?
Everyone is at risk regardless of age, education, or economic status. Gum disease
begins when the bacteria in plaque, the thin sticky film you can feel on your teeth,
is allowed to build up and harden into tartar. Buildup starts to happen immediately
after you brush or floss. With time, it damages your gums’ natural protective barrier,
allowing bacteria to grow under the gum and spread throughout your body, potentially
causing further harm.
Once tartar has been allowed to build up, only your dental team can remove it.
If not removed on a regular basis, chances are you will require additional therapy
to arrest damage. In fact, if we catch it early enough, we can sometimes reverse it!
How Can I Prevent Gum Disease?
You can be successful in keeping your healthy attractive smile. Brush twice a
day, floss once a day, and keep your regular dental appointments. We can prevent
and treat gum disease even before you’ve noticed any symptoms!
Healthy Smiles ...Are helped by a healthy body
It’s hard to imagine a generation
that pays more attention to health
and nutrition, yet our focus is often
channeled toward our weight. In
fact, if your nutrition is poor, the
first signs frequently show up as
cavities, gum disease, and other
painful oral health issues.
Here’s a four-step common sense
solution: the same balanced nutritious
diet that is essential to a healthy body
can save your smile too!
1. Fruits &/or vegetables should
cover half your plate at each meal.
2. Whole grains provide a
healthy amount of fiber.
3. Low-fat or fat-free dairy
foods are a good choice, but
watch for added sugar!
4.Lean beef, skinless poultry,
& fish can be varied with proteinrich eggs, beans, peas, & lentils.
Get Your
Glow Back
Enjoy your life. Smile often.
Laugh out loud.
You could go so far as to sip all your beverages
through a straw to avoid staining your teeth and
to avoid premature lip lines ... or you could just
enjoy life … and your exhilarating espresso… and
get your teeth brightened with supervised teeth
whitening whenever you want to. Removing
stains caused by food, beverages, tobacco,
and medications with a program specially
designed for you is completely safe, reliable,
quick, and convenient.
Brighten & whiten your smile with:
l Tooth-colored fillings, instead of silvercolored metal ones, to bring youth back to
your smile.
l Veneers can camouflage deep stains,
mask conspicuous white splotches or
brownish-gray bands.
l Natural-looking crowns which
can strengthen and beautifully restore
damaged smiles.
We can give you a luminous smile
that will look healthier and give
you more confidence ... so you’ll be
laughing out loud in no time!

Results may vary
If you’re not flossing, you’re
missing about 35% of your tooth
surfaces and increasing your
chances of plaque and tartar
buildup that causes cavities and
gum disease.
1. Wind 18 inches of floss around the middle fingers of each hand,
leaving about five inches in between. Pinch the floss between your
thumbs and index fingers and leave about one inch with which
to work.
2. Gently guide the floss between teeth, pull it into a C shape
around the sides of each tooth, and slide it under the gumline.
3. Clean the surface of the tooth by using an up-and-down motion.
4. Repeat the process on all sides of all teeth using a fresh section
of floss for each tooth.

Wear And Tear
Erosion and abrasion
There are many ways you can abnormally wear and tear
your teeth without being aware of it. A trip to the dentist is
the best way to detect it, but there are some signs and
symptoms you can pick up on your own.
Erosion is due to chemical reactions in your mouth. For
example, lemons and other citrus fruits contain powerful natural
acids that dissolve the protective covering on your teeth over
time. Phosphoric acids that are found in many soft drinks are
strong enough to dissolve an iron nail. If your teeth are sensitive
to hot, cold, sugar, or brushing, erosion may be the problem.
Abrasion looks and feels like erosion, but its cause is
mechanical rather than chemical. The effect is like sandpaper
on wood, and the culprit is usually brushing the wrong way.
Brushing side to side instead of in a circular motion can wear
teeth severely over time. Hard-bristled brushes can also do
damage. Using your teeth to cut thread and open hairpins can
cut small notches on the edges of your teeth that can fracture the
tooth. Grinding your teeth at night can also wear away teeth and
leave them overly sensitive.
The best way to stop erosion and abrasion is to eliminate the
cause and treat the damage. If you notice signs of abnormal wear
and tear on your teeth, bring them into the practice for a checkup.

Almost all of us grind or clench
our teeth occasionally. But excessive
heavy grinding, or bruxism, can lead
to painful jaw and dental problems.
Many people brux when sleeping,
leading to sore and tired facial muscles,
jaw joint disorders, worn down enamel,
and damaged restorations. Emotional
and physical factors cause bruxing.
Stress tops the list.
Bruxism can cause serious
problems for your smile and your
general well-being. We can help
you in a variety of ways including
designing a customized mouth
appliance that intercepts grinding
and protects the teeth.
Are you a bruxer? Please come
and see us for a complete diagnosis!
