MADHYA PRADESH CRICKET ASSOCIATION COLOMBO MP U-19 TEAM TO SRI LANKA - 2012 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT I would like to congratulate the MP U/19 team members for their selection for the tour of Sri Lanka during the month of May 2012 to compete against the counterparts from the Island. I believe the players would be raring to display their skills and perform in Sri Lanka, a Country widely appreciated for its cricket friendly culture. MPCA is delighted to note the keenness expressed by the teams from Sri Lanka to play against us for the second consecutive year. Last year’s tour gave an exceptional platform for the upcoming players and the exposure has augmented their cricketing abilities to a great extent. This is evident from the fantastic performance of our U/19 team during the last cricketing season of BCCI. I must also appreciate the excellent abilities and display of skill on part of the team members that toured Colombo the last year. Their efforts have helped in creating the sturdy edifice for this strong association with the domestic teams from Sri Lanka. We are sure of a similar performance from the present set of boy’s. It is important that the players sustain the passion and desire to play on at the higher level. We expect them to make most use of the facilities and conveniences that are being offered to them on a regular basis. Our confidence in the young blood will certainly yield excellent results in the future and this will be the ultimate achievement for MPCA and all our associates. I appreciate the support received from Cricket Sri Lanka in making this tour a reality. With regards, Jyotiraditya M Scindia President MADHYA PRADESH CRICKET ASSOCIATION Fact Sheet 1. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains. 1. 4. The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for: Your opponents Your own captain and team The role of the umpires The game and its traditional values 5. It is against the Spirit of the Game: There are two Laws which place the responsibility for the team's conduct firmly on the captain. To dispute an umpire's decision by word, action or gesture To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire Responsibility of captains The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws. To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance: (a) to appeal knowing that the batsman is not out (b) to advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing (c) to seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one's own side Player's conduct In the event of a player failing to comply with instructions by an umpire, or criticising by word or action the decisions of an umpire, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute, the umpire concerned shall in the first place report the matter to the other umpire and to the player's captain, and instruct the latter to take action. 2. Fair and unfair play According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges of fair and unfair play. The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the responsibility of the captain to take action where required. 3. The umpires are authorised to intervene in cases of: Time wasting Damaging the pitch Dangerous or unfair bowling Tampering with the ball Any other action that they consider to be unfair 4 6. Violence There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play. 7. Players Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this. The players, umpires and scorers in a game of cricket may be of either gender and the Laws apply equally to both. The use, throughout the text, of pronouns indicating the male gender is purely for brevity. Except where specifically stated otherwise, every provision of the Laws is to be read as applying to women and girls equally as to men and boys. THE JOURNEY OF THE GREAT HOLKAR TEAM TO PINNACLE OF GLORY IN THE RANJI TROPHY In the summer of 1934, BCCI in its meeting held at Shimla, conceptualized National Cricket Tournament, Ranji Trophy, named after K.S. Ranjit Singh of Navanagar, at the behest of Bhupendra Sigh, Maharaja of Patiala, who donated the Trophy made of Gold. “Madras” had the privilege to host the first match on 4th. Nov. 1934. M.J.Gopalan had the honour of delivering the first ball, faced by N. Curtis. VIJAY NAYUDU ANALYSES THE "HOLKAR ERA" which is a record matched only by Bombay (now known as Mumbai). The “Holkar” won the Ranji Trophy in 1945-46, 1947-48, 1950-51 & 1952-53. The salient features of the “Holkar” team were as under: It was a team of “All-rounders”, which gave a variety of options to the Captain to use the resources of the team to its advantage in a given situation. l wickets were down as the batters to come were CK Nayudu, KM Rangnekar, MM Jagdale, HG Gaikwad and JN Bhaya or SD Dhanwade. V. Dixit was the only player who seemed to have played for Holkar as a Bowler. l S. Mushtaq Ali had the distinction of playing all the 49 matches which speaks about his commitment and physical fitness as he was the highest run l It had tremendous batting depth up to no. 10 with even the no. 11 having the ability to hold his end if situation demanded, as was the case in the final played against Bengal in 195253 when the last wicket played for 90 minutes to draw the match and win the final on the basis of first inning lead. l Players from Indore & M P, UP, & Rajasthan played for “Central India” from 1934-35 to 1939-40, playing 11 matches. The team did not participate in the year 1940-41. “Holkar” team participated in the Ranji Trophy from 1941-42 to 1954-55, playing 49 matches during 14 years of their participation and reached the Finals on 10 occasions, from 1944- The team relied heavily on its batting strength and often out batted its opponent by putting up big scores. At one time six batsmen scored century in an innings, which is a record. This was against Mysore at Indore in 1945-46. l The team had flexible batting order thus not allowing the opponent to formulate any strategy even if the first 4 l getter for the team. Col. CK Nayudu captained the team in 40 matches while S. Mushtaq Ali captained the team in 9 matches. l Self belief, positive approach and discipline were the hallmark and the main attributes of the success of the Great Holkar team in the Ranji Trophy Tournament. l 5 TEAM PROFILE 6 SHUBHAM SHARMA (Captain) Born 25 Dec 1993 (Indore Madhya Pradesh) SHIVAM TIWARI Born 27 Feb 1996 (Bhopal Madhya Pradesh) ADITYA SHRIVASTAVA Born 18 Sept 1993 (Bhopal Madhya Pradesh) Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-19 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm offbreak Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-16 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm offbreak Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-19 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm legbreak MAYANK JAIN Born 1 Aug 1994 (Sehore Madhya Pradesh) HIMANSHU MANTRI Born 9 Feb 1994 (Amlai Madhya Pradesh) NAMAN BHATT Born 26 Oct 1994 (Khargone Madhya Pradesh) Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-19 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Left-arm medium pace Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-19 Batting style : Left-hand bat Fielding position : Wicket keeper Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-19 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Slow left-arm orthodox VIVEK SINGH Born 3 June 1995 (Shahdol Madhya Pradesh) ARBAZ QURESHI Born 16 Jan 1994 (Bhopal Madhya Pradesh) ABHISHEK BHANDARI Born 1 Nov 1994 (Indore Madhya Pradesh) Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-16 Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm offbreak Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-16 Batting style : Left-hand bat Bowling style : Slow left-arm orthodox Major Teams : Madhya Pradesh U-16 Batting style : Right-hand bat Fielding position : Wicket keeper HAMZA KHAN Born 12 Dec 1996 (Sagar Madhya Pradesh) AVESH KHAN Born 13 Dec 1996 (Indore Madhya Pradesh) SANDEEP MISHRA Born 19 Sept 1995 (Ujjain Madhya Pradesh) Major Teams : Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm legbreak Major Teams : Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm medium pace Major Teams : Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm medium pace WASIM AHMED Born 11 Dec 1993 (Jhansi Uttar Pradesh) NISHANT KUSHWAH Born 18 Oct 1994 (Agra Uttar Pradesh) AMAN KHAN Born 28 Sept 1993 (Jabalpur Madhya Pradesh) Major Teams : Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm Major Teams : Batting style : Left-hand bat Bowling style : Left-arm Major Teams : Batting style : Right-hand bat Bowling style : Right-arm medium pace NITIN KULKARNI COACH AMIT BHATT MANAGER NEERAJ SHUKLA PHYSIO LEVEL -2 BCCI Coach Former First Class Player Madhya Pradesh Former First Class Player Madhya Pradesh CHANDRABHAN SINGH PANWAR TRAINER H.S.
