Outside of some rain and snow in March, our winter was really quite pleasant with many picture-perfect days for golf or most any activity. I look forward to the warm and sunny days ahead including one of April’s finest traditions, “the Masters.” Before touching on April news, I want to thank all who attended our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Comedy Show. The headliner gave new meaning to our beloved bungalows and brought the house down in laughter with good old fashion fun. Chef Whipple prepared a traditional dinner of corned beef and cabbage with class—Saddle Creek style. It was a great evening of fun for all. As I write, we are preparing for a recital by Italian opera soprano, Alexis Magarò. It is truly a pleasure to work with such a talented team at Saddle Creek, especially Linda Beck and Linda Bond, who bring these zany ideas to life with the flare and class you would expect for an event at Saddle Creek. Come join the fun and spend time with the Saddle Creek family. Speaking of traditions, the team at Saddle Creek has been working on a special night for all members to enjoy and embrace. Beginning Friday, April 7th, the club will feature a special wine tasting bar every Friday evening between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in our Fireplace Foyer. This social affair will feature complimentary hors d’oeuvres and the sounds of our new piano. Each week we will feature treasures from our collection in addition to our regular wine by the glass selection. Prices will vary from $5 to $12 per glass. Recently, we began splitting each member folio to account for all family members. Previously, spouses and children under the age of 23 were assigned to one account number. In the new system, this number, less the dash, will become the master number. Each active family member will have their own number, which will be made up of the master number and an Alpha character—“A- Husband” and “B- Wife.” All will come as one bill with the total of each sub-member falling under the master number. This system will allow us to keep profiles on each individual member. In addition, you will be able to make a tee time or Continued inside right VOL.2, NO.4 Spring Events April 8, 2006 • Food and Wine Presentation, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. April 11, 2006 • Members’ Nine-Hole Scramble & Buffet Dinner, 5:00 p.m. April 14, 2006· *Walk with William, 7:30 a.m. April 15, 2006 • *Easter Egg Hunt, Sports Club 1:00 p.m. April 16, 2006 • Traditional Family-Style Easter Supper, 11:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. April 21, 2006 • *Winemaker’s Dinner, 6:00 p.m. April 22, 2006 • Copperopolis Town Square Groundbreaking, 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. April 25, 2006 • *Members’ Nine-Hole Scramble & Buffet Dinner, 5:00 p.m. April 29, 2006 • *Copper Valley Trail Company Open House, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. May 9, 2006 • *Members’ Nine-Hole Scramble & Buffet Dinner, 5:00 p.m. May 14, 2006 • Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. May 18, 2006 • *Members’ Twilight Golf & Potluck, 5:00 p.m. *Members event. We will finish up this month’s highlights on April 26th with a preview tasting of our New Spring Menu beginning at 6:00 p.m. From the Chef’s Corner: April is an exciting time in the kitchen as a whole new crop of fresh fruits and vegetables become available. We will begin to see artichokes, asparagus, snap peas, fava beans, all varieties of carrots, and several types of gourmet mushrooms. Rhubarb, strawberries, mangos, cherries, and many kinds of stone fruit will soon follow. Remember to choose the highest quality products and you really can’t go wrong. Traditional fresh brewed French press Pete’s Coffee will now be available at your table. Coffees will be available during regular business hours so please stop by and see us. And on another note, the Chef and I are on a continuous mission to upgrade our wine list. Our goal is to have the best wine list in the Mother Lode. We are constantly trying new wines and beginning to do pairings of food with wines to make the perfect dining experience for you. We hope to see you in the lodge. We are always open to your feedback and comments about our choice of new wines. Sincerely, Azzo Green Report Greetings! What a wet month we’ve had! The rains have delayed both the bunker renovation and the driving range project. The bunkers are finished and Johnson Construction has been able to continue the driving range. Look for more updates in the next newsletter. We are beginning a new phase of equipment acquisition here at Saddle Creek. This coming year we are leasing a new tractor and aerifier that will help alleviate some of the drainage issues we face in the fairways and roughs. We are leasing a new greens aerifier that is state of the art. We will be also leasing new utility vehicles that will help support our normal maintenance practices. Art Walk News Since Saddle Creek is a community of AVID readers as well as TALENTED artists, it seems appropriate to offer some of our GENTLY read books for sale at the 2nd Annual Art Walk in October. Donations of paper and hard cover books in EXCELLENT CONDITION would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds from their sale will go to Copperopolis Elementary School. Books remaining after the sale will be donated to the Copperopolis Library. Call Valerie Newman, 209.785.1713 to arrange a donation. Continuation of GM Article, front page dinner reservation by spouse or family member. Also, purchases will be assigned to a specific designee of each membership. By splitting each account into family designees, we hope to build better individual preferences for each member and assist you in reconciling monthly charges. You can greatly assist us to build our photo library of members by visiting our concierge desk to have your picture taken and entered into our point of sale system. In addition to this process, we have some questions that will help our staff to know and serve you better. In the next few weeks, Linda Bond will begin the process of developing a members’ directory that will be placed in the lobby for all to see and use. This is just the beginning of a very in-depth member service program we are in the process of implementing throughout the facility. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at 209.785.3701 or email at [email protected]. I would be happy to publish your questions and answers in upcoming articles. On Sunday, March 12th, I had the pleasure of meeting with several members who make up our new Food and Wine Committee. We discussed a wide range of topics, including menu pricing, menu items, quality, special family dinners and the charter by which the committee will operate. The committee established a goal to offer a more moderately priced menu without impacting food quality. Our Spring menu will debut on Thursday, April 27th with a special tasting on Wednesday, April 26th. Please mark your calendar and call the concierge desk to sample the latest menu items. I hope you will join us in bringing a Saddle Creek “Signature” to our culinary operation. See you on the course! Scott Warm Regards, Bill Over the winter we changed some of the mowing patterns around the greens and approaches. We are walk mowing them with the same unit we use on the tees. This will give us a more defined look and help alleviate some of the compaction as well. This is a work in progress, and changes may be made later. Sand bottles are now standard on all the rental carts and the golf shop is installing them on all member carts as well. Please contact the golf shop to have yours installed free of charge. Next to one and ten tee complexes are sand bottle replacement boxes. If you have an empty bottle, take a full one and leave the empty one there. Also, on holes 5,8,12, and 13 there are sand bottles next to the landing areas for those of you who walk.
