Marsa Matouh: A Little Strip of Heaven

240 kilometres (150 miles) west of Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano lies Marsa Matrouh,
a secluded destination on Egypt’s Mediterranean seashore that boasts some of the world’s most beautiful
seashore landscapes, many of the most interesting historical sites in Egypt, and a refreshingly new way to
spend a summer.
Waters ranging from all shades of blue and green form an aura that sparkles underneath the warm sun. The
differences in depth form an underwater series of mountains and caves that turn a simple dip in the sea into
an interesting escapade.
Matrouh is home to several jaw-dropping beaches, most fascinating of which are Agiba beach and Shat El
Gharam beach – translated from Arabic to “wonder” and “Shore of Love” beaches.
Both beaches take after their names. Agiba truly is a wonder, a place to experience one of the most
beautiful virgin beaches in the world, or explore the depths of your love seaside on Shat El Gharam beach,
where many of Egyptian cinema’s most famous love scenes took place.
General Erwin Rommel himself, known as the Desert Fox, picked a cave near the shore to command
operations during the battle of El-Alameim, a battle fought in Egypt between Italy and Germany. The cave is
now known as Rommel Museum and displays a collection of belongings and amenities used during the time.
