Travel
The town of Port Hedland is situated
in the Pilbara region of Western
Australia. The town is one of the
major iron ore ports in Australia
focusing on the extraction, processing
and exporting of iron ore from the
massive deposits in surrounding
ranges. Port Hedland is known for its
massive resource industry, long trains,
big ships and salt piles. Located on
the coast, it is also a great place for
fishing, crabbing, whale watching and
turtle nesting.
Port Hedland has an open and relaxed
atmosphere. The well-established
service centre is more than sufficient
to cater to your business, retail and
entertainment needs.
The town has high quality
educational facilities including Port
Hedland Primary School which caters
for kindergarten to Year 7 and the
Hedland High School which caters for
Year 8 to Year 12.
Port Hedland is approximately
1,760 kilometres north of Perth
(24 hour drive) via the North West
Coastal Highway. It is recommended
that drivers allow for two days of
travelling. Integrity Coachlines
provide bus services from Perth to
Port Hedland twice a week. Qantas
and Virgin fly from Perth to Port
Hedland daily.
