Experience how archaeologists reconstruct life in ancient Ireland from pollen and animal bone analysis to butter making. Try your hand at identifying the bones of prehistoric animals and the remains of ancient crops in ‘hands on’ sessions, and have a go at grinding grain on a prehistoric hand mill. There will be a butter churning demonstration and the opportunity to try the results with some prehistoric-style bread. A great family day out! 11am to 4pm, Beaumont Quarry, Beaumont Drive, Ballintemple, Cork Events taking place more than once during Cork Heritage Week: Award Winning Photographic Exhibition of the Coal Quay Middle Parish, Coal Quay Historical Society award winning photographic exhibition. 20 August to 25 August, 10am to 5pm St Peter’s Cork, North Main Street Events taking place more than once during Cork Heritage Week: Traveller Heritage Exhibition Cork Traveller Women’s Network and the Traveller Visibility Group will be displaying a miniature buccaneer caravan as part of the permanent Traveller Culture Exhibit at Cork Public Museum. The addition of a miniature caravan will complement the exhibit’s full size traditional camp tent and barreltop wagon, telling the ongoing story of Traveller accommodation over the years. Caravans largely replaced the wooden barreltop wagons in the 1970s and with motorised vehicles allowed the community to become more nomadic. Caravans continue to be very significant for the Traveller community both as a symbol of nomadism and as a home. The distinctive buccaneer, with its chrome finish was locally built by Traveller man John Berry.
