students can discuss, debate, reflect and speak our mind.
With the aim of providing students instant support and aid, the
magazine brings forward and discusses student centric issues —
from management, career prospective, counseling, interview
training, personal life to beauty, friendship and entertainment
Millions of men have lived to fight, build palaces and
boundaries, shape destinies and societies; but the
compelling force of all times has been the force of
originality and creation profoundly affecting the roots of
human spirit.

Sports News
Being at an age, where we care more about how others perceive
and respond to our views than about actually speaking our mind
and expressing our opinions is quite frustrating. Little do we
realize that every voice matters. Each voice is different in its
own way and equally potent.
Creative
Writing
We must all be aware of this power that we wield. And we must
take pride in expressing ourselves because as the next
generation, it is our turn to impact and change the world for the
better.
Now, let us present to you the next edition of our VERVE emagazine, a quarterly culmination of all the voices here at JSS
Private School.
We cannot thank our dear teachers enough for the inspiration
and guidance they have provided to us in bringing to you this
edition of our e-magazine.

REPORT ON TEACHERS’ DAY (04/09/2014-‐05/09/2014) Teachers’ Day
‘A teacher is the one who knows the way,
goes the way and shows the way.’
4th September ’14 was an eventful day in
JSSPS as the day dawned with the
students and teachers assembling in the
auditorium, to celebrate Teachers’ Day,
which falls on 5th September every year.
The children of the middle school hosted
the show. The program commenced with
the traditional lighting of the lamp by the
Principal and the HODs. Lighting of the
lamp signifies that darkness is destroyed
by light and on this occasion, we need to
relate it to knowledge which dispels the
darkness of ignorance. The first event was
an invocation dance with a song on Lord
Ganesha, who is regarded as the one who
removes all the obstacles on our way to
achieving our goals. The Principal, Mrs.
Chitra Sharma, addressed the gathering
by highlighting the value of teachers and
also the duties and responsibilities of
teachers. She led the oath that was taken
by the teachers with regard to the noblest
2
of professions that they have taken up.
She asked the students how they would
grade their teachers and how many of
them would like to become teachers when
they grow up. The response was amazing.
The SFO of the school, Mr. Govind Naik,
was the next to address the staff and
students. He emphasized on the important
role played by teachers in molding the
children and how they were respected and
honored by even the kings in the olden
days, how the Guru used to adopt the kids,
how the disciples worked at the Guru’s
ashram and accept whatever is offered to
them.
The teachers were then asked to assemble
before the audience and each teacher was
awarded a token of appreciation with a
unique word that describes her/him best,
like ‘Perfectionist’, ‘Reliable’, ‘dedicated’,
‘meticulous’, etc. It was a moment of pride
for the Teachers as their hard work was
recognized and rewarded.
The Teachers’ Day assembly culminated
with Vote of Thanks and a group
photograph of teachers to preserve the
memory of this eventful day!

REPORT ON MOCK FIRE DRILL (09/09/2014) FROM THE KINDERGARTEN SECTION MOCK FIRE DRILL (9/09/2014)
A REPORT FROM THE
KINDERGARTEN SECTION
Knowing what to do in the event of a fire
or any accident is essential for our
survival. So keeping this in mind, the
Kindergarteners
listened
in
rapt
attention when their teachers spoke to
them as to how they needed to move
out of their classrooms, through the
corridors and finally to a safe place in
case of any accident.
The alertness of the children was clearly seen during the mock
fire drill. When they heard the fire alarm, they quickly formed
a line, calmly evacuated the classrooms and moved to the
safety zone. It was amazing to see children conscious about
the safety measures not forgetting their concern for their
friends as they checked to see if all were in line.

REPORT ON FIRE DRILL (10/09/2014) A school is meant to be a fire-‐safe place. Fire drills are conducted in schools to ensure that everyone knows how to evacuate the building quickly but quietly, in case of an emergency. At JSSPS too, as the first step, the staff and students were trained to recognize the emergency alarm when it rings. The children were given instructions regarding how they have to get on their feet and follow the leader, and the leader was guided as to how they should lead others. The children were shown their places on the soccer field. After the rehearsal, a fire drill was scheduled. On Wednesday, the 10th September 2014, the fire alarm rang with a big bang without prior announcement. The students and the staff were out of their classrooms in a jiffy and the leaders (class marshals) led their teams out displaying their leadership skills. Each teacher ensured that no child was left behind in the class. They also carried their files with green and red cards to indicate the status of the children who assembled on the soccer field. Green indicated that all children were assembled on the soccer field . This was indeed an enlightening experience for both the staff and students. Even though it was just a drill, everyone took it seriously and all were in complete charge and control. The entire episode was a classic example of the ability of children to get trained with discipline, duties and responsibilities. Once they take up the responsibility, they execute it with precision and care 4

HEALTH AND
HYGIENE
PROGRAMME
(10/09/2014) FROM THE KINDERGARTEN SECTION Good personal hygiene is a
stepping stone towards good health.
Keeping this thought in mind, a health program was
organized in our school premises on 10th Sept by Dr
Zahar. It is very important that children must be taught
about good hygiene at a young age, especially during kindergarten, when the
foundation of good habits once laid; lead them to a healthy future.
The program commenced with a visually appealing PowerPoint presentation about
good health and personal hygiene which also included an animated movie to capture
the attention of the young audience. Children were totally engrossed in trying to
understand how to keep the germs away and be safe. They learnt about different kind
of germs which spread diseases and simple, effective ways to protect them like
frequently washing hands, bathing, sneezing with the mouth covered and many more.
The question answer session that followed was received with great enthusiasm by our
pre schoolers who enthusiastically participated and tried to answer every question to
the best of their knowledge and understanding.
The session came to an end with a small demonstration about the correct way for
washing the hands with soap for the entire KG department and Dettol liquid hand
soaps as gifts to all the children as a gesture for their participation in the Health and
Hygiene program.
The thundering round of applause for Dr Zahar by our little learners was like icing on
top of the cake. We wish our children a happy and healthy life and hope they become
responsible and caring individuals of tomorrow!!!

JSS PS celebrates International Day for the
Preservation of the Ozone Layer
In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 16th September, as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The Earthlings of JSS PS brought about an awareness of the day through a brief assembly on the intercom. The President of the Environment Committee, Kavya Rao along with other members of the environment committee, highlighted the importance of the ozone layer to the other students. The ozone layer forms a thin shield up in the sky, this layer protects the life on earth from the UV rays of the sun. It is very important because it stops too many of the sun's 'ultra-‐violet rays' (UV rays) getting through to the Earth -‐ these are the rays that cause our skin to tan. Too much UV can cause skin cancer and will also harm all plants and animals. Life on Earth could not exist without the protective shield of the ozone layer. An in house art competition was organized for the students to create visual representations of ways to preserve the ozone layer. 6

WORK DAY INITIATIVE
(01/10/2014)
October
Issue [#] :: [Date]
"The real asset of any advanced nation is its people,
especially the educated ones, and the prosperity and
success of the people are measured by the standard of
their education.”
- Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
Zayed Humanitarian Work Day is dedicated to the
memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Zayed dedicated his time to acts of charity and
campaigned for the nation to value humanitarianism.
In a bid to honour his legacy, KHDA along with the
Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department
commemorate Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, through
collecting and distributing stationery supplies to students
in time for the start of the academic year.
The campaign last year provided 10,000 students with
supplies for the new school year.
JSS PS was a part of the campaign last academic year
and we took on the initiative again this year.
Students of grade 5 were involved in packing of the
boxes. The corridor of grade 4 and 5 was buzzing with
the excitement of the students running across to carry
and fill the bags.
100 filled bags were handed over to the KHDA office by
the junior prefectural board members on October 1st
2014 . The students were overwhelmed with the warmth
meted out by the officials at the KHDA – Academic City
office.
They were lucky to meet Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman
of the Board of Directors and Director General of the
Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
Apart from being a thorough gentleman he is a great
inspiration and motivation to children.
This initiative provided children an experience in working
together as a team, being empathetic towards the needs
of the community as well as an exposure to the extreme
cordiality of the Emirati culture

“School is where children spend most of their time, and
it is where we lay the foundation for healthy habits”
- Richard J Codey
Just as the saying goes, the entire Kindergarten block
put in great efforts to make the health and nutrition
week a success. Different topics related to healthy eating
and good health were discussed and we were amazed to
see how much our children knew and spoke about. The
teachers of both the sections had planned various
activities for them. The KG 1 children were very excited
to make different salads in their classes with the help of
their teachers. They learnt the important steps to be
taken before cooking and followed exactly the same
before they began. They looked like little professional
chefs with their chef caps and aprons. The salads they
made not only looked colourful but very fresh and
healthy too. The teachers and the children discussed the
goodness of all the ingredients used for the salad.
Besides this, what really surprised us was their creativity
skills.
They very efficiently moulded different colours of play
dough into the different fruits and vegetables they had
learnt about and each product was a masterpiece.
In the KG 2 classes, health and nutrition charts were
displayed, wherein the children had to draw or write
about the healthy food that they brought in their lunch
boxes.
This gave them an enormous amount of information on
all the healthy foods they had packed for themselves
during the week and it was good to see them sharing it
with each other. They also spoke about the discussion
that they had had with their parents about the
importance of healthy eating

ECO
CONFERENCE
(18/10/2014)
Youth in the Post 2015 Agenda which
was held at The Westminster School on
Saturday, 18th October 2014. This was
the first ever eco conference that took
place and was hosted by the members
of the Green Hope. The event mainly
provided the students an exposure
about the current situation about
issues ranging from climate change to
gender discrimination.
Twelve students from our school took
part in this and were allocated into ten
different groups. Each one was
provided with T- shirts to instill a sense
of unity. The whole conference was
divided into various programmes and
activities.
The first event that took place was the
tree plantation at the Mushrif Park
where
all
the
students
planted
saplings. The next event consisted of a
panel discussion by several experts
who were actively involved and voiced
their thoughts on the various issues
like social media, organic farming and
different
facets
of
sustainable
development. There were also young
speaker representatives from every
school who voiced their opinions,
aspirations, and concerns on topics
related to sustainable development.
Even the recently launched UN
HeForShe campaign on gender equality
was emphasized upon during the
20
discussions. Again, the conference was
taken forward after conducting a survey
which was designed to obtain insights
from individuals about what issues they
think would make the most difference to
their lives. The options ranged from
demands for an honest and responsive
government to actions taken on climate
change and Equality between men and
women.
There was also a brief information given
on the Millennium development Goals
that is to formulate a clear strategy
which can deliver on the promise of ‘A
life of dignity for all’.
Young
people
are
the
“Future
Generations” and they must have a
defining say in developing the road map
towards a sustainable, equitable and just
world.”
In the end there were a range of
activities conducted to reach out better.
There was a competition wherein the
students painted T-shirts with slogans
that sent a strong message across.
There was a round of quiz questions too.
However the last one was where the
problems and solutions relating to
various issues. The winners were also
given prizes. This programme helped
every individual to realize the current
rate of destruction and was a wakeup call
too. It truly helped in empowering
students to become globally responsible

from Mr. Richard Lackey. Through his session we got
to learn about the audio, editing, camera lens, the
lights etc. we also learnt that audio would be our
toughest challenge followed by editing and selecting
the camera. Mr. Lackey couldn’t go in detail about
everything as he was running out of time though he
explained most of the topics well. So, I hope with the
tips from the experts our JSS Private School team
will be able to make a good movie.

CANCER
AWARENESS
(29/10/2014)
The students of JSS PS were proud to be a part of
the
Breast
Cancer
Awareness
Campaign
conducted on October 29th 2014.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in
countries across the world every October, helps to
increase attention and support for the awareness,
early detection and treatment as well as palliative
care of this disease.
Dr. Mamta Mamani, who is a Gynaecologist at NMC Hospital, volunteered to educate
the students of grade 6 to 11 on the symptoms, causes and forms of treatment of
the disease. Two sessions were conducted for the students one for the boys and one
for the girls. Children were enthusiastic about the topic and raised several questions
to clear their concerns.
The Prefectural board both junior and senior released helium balloons into the air to
signify lifting the problems, pain and unwanted emotions, and casting away the old
memories into the air with a secret message of hope and renewal .
The gathering was encouraged to say a prayer for any person who had been a victim
of the disease.
The Pink Pledge Wall was inaugurated which carried pink paper ribbons to signify the
support for breast cancer
awareness. Students and staff
of JSS PS signed and placed
ribbons on the wall in support
for the cause. The students
took home the message of
care and concern for women.

A
creative
project
reflecting
Dubai’s
advancement in the fields of construction and
transportation.
The United Arab Emirates is a very important
technological hub in the world. It is here, where,
everyday a new innovation or invention is announced
and launched. Dubai has been advancing at a rapid rate
in all the fields, especially in two fields, in which Dubai
has created tons of laurels. Those two are – Architecture
and Transportation. Dubai has been the home place of
many great creations such as the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al
Arab and the Dubai Mall and also of many transportation
wonders, such as the famous Dubai Metro and the new Dubai Tram. Observing these
advancements of Dubai, the students of JSS Private School have created an
innovative project reflecting on Dubai’s beauty. Imagine a ship, with a sail, and
suddenly, the sail is the majestic Burj Al Arab, and on the Burj Al Arab stands a
helicopter, and near is the beautiful Palm Jumeirah, with buildings as cars, that’s the
effect!
This is an imperfect description of the excellent creation. This project is a blending of
Dubai’s constructional wonders and advancements in transportation. Such is the
outstanding project created by the students of JSS Private School, Al Safa, Dubai,
under the guidance of our art teacher Mr.Chandrasekhar sir and support of our
Honorable Principal Mrs. Chitra Sharma and Event Manager Mrs. Gwen Dickson,
which just like our previous project - Scrap Rider, was created in a duration of just 1
month, by the hard work of almost all the students of grades 6, 7 and 8, whose
names are written on that same ship, our project.

JSS PS Junior Head Boy wins 3rd prize
“My Best Vacation In India” Contest
An honour for JSS PS with its Junior Head boy
winning the third prize for “My best vacation in
India " Contest conducted by The Consulate
General of India, Dubai for the Indian children in
U.A.E.
His writing would be published in the Indian Consulate’s Facebook
page soon.
Given below is the article
My best vacation in INDIA.
To me a perfect vacation is a relaxing break at my grandparents’
homes in Cochin and Trivandrum in Kerala. It is the happiest
period in a year, sort of running away from the unbearable desert
heat to the rain soaked greenery. This time too like always my
great grandmother pampered me so much whereas grand mom
fed me with so much love. Holidays were made more exciting by
my friends from the neighbourhood. The best thing was we played
in the rain and none stopped us from having fun. I loved the train
ride to the capital city Trivandrum. I sat on the window seat and
thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing while my dad gave the perfect
narration of every place we passed by. The city was vibrant and
lively in festive mood with all the Onam fun fair. I shopped a lot
and made few temple visits, especially visit to the historical Sri
Padmanabha Temple was interesting. We had a great time in
Kovalam beach and loved the sunset. The rickshaw ride to various
places amidst heavy traffic was quite cool. Our visit to Janey
Special School where my aunt is the Principal was a true eye
opening experience. Chilling out with cousins was amazing and
thus we ended up creating memories -- A wonderful feeling of
togetherness and bonding to cherish always :)

A Cultural Walk To The Historic Bastakiya – SMCCU
Grade 2
Students of JSSPS School, Grade 2 were taken on an
educational walk through the historical Bastakiya SMCCU, Bur
Dubai. The main aim of this walk was to create cultural
awareness and understanding about the culture, customs,
religion and life in Dubai.
We visited the Bastakiya Mosque to understand the role and
significance of the mosque to the Emirati people. We got an
opportunity to see traditional homes built by using shells,
bamboos and different parts of the palm tree e.g. leaves for
house roofs and wood for walls etc. The architectural elements
included a walk through the narrow sikkas, beautiful windtowers – the air conditioners of the olden times and also the
large main door and small inner door, so as to prevent
unexpected male visitor to see the
women in the house.
Last but not the least, we all
received a beautiful booklet giving
an insight about the mosque visited
and Emirati traditional dresses etc.

UAE FLAG DAY
(03/11/2014)
JSS PS celebrates UAE Flag Day
The students of JSS PS came together to show patriotism and
support for the governance of the UAE by celebrating the UAE
Flag Day on November 3rd 2014.
It is also the anniversary of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa
Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE.
In honor of this day, citizens and residents were asked to raise
the flag at 12noon.
The students were made aware of the significance of UAE flag
which depicted the struggles and successes of this nation. Red
stands for sacrifice, energy and power, Green represents
prosperity, growth and success, Black stands for dignity,
authority and elegance, and White represents Purity, Openness,
Transparency and Peace. They also learned about the history of
the UAE Flag which was designed by Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Al
Ma’enah after he read an advertisement announcing a
competition for designing the UAE flag by Abu Dhabi Amiri Diwan.
It was released in Al Itihad newspaper published in Abu Dhabi
two months prior to declaration of the UAE.
Out of the 1030 designs received, the flag designed by Mr.
Abdulla Mohammed Al Ma’enah was selected. He was 19 years old at the time.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the first person to hoist the flag on December 2,
1971. One of the tallest flag poles in the world is in Sharjah constructed on Montazah Al
Jazeera directly across from the government building. The redesign of the flag pole at
Dubai’s Union House stands 123 meters and is the second tallest flagpole in the UAE.
The celebration of the UAE Flag Day is a symbol of the Union, its dignity and sovereignty and
reminds us about the founding fathers who persevered for the welfare of the current
generation, thanks to the wise leadership of the UAE.

WHAT WORKS MATH PLUS WORKSHOP
On 10th November 2014, six students- Amrith Krishna, Aswin, Advaith, Shachi,
Aayush and Rohan represented the JSS Private School for the What Works Math
Workshop in Dubai Healthcare City, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Academic Medical Center. Many other schools represented their schools with
various interesting Math projects too. Our school had selected the topic learning
Math through traditional games to display during this workshop. We created the
traditional fun games ‘Mancala’ and ‘AaduPulliAattam’ (goat vs tiger) to exhibit.
The project was created by Amrith Krishna, Aswin, Advaith, Aaayush, Rohan,
Shachi and Shwetha along with the guidance of Chandrasekhar Sir- Our art
teacher, and Dinesh Sir our Mathematics Teacher. When we reached there we
were amazed by all the other projects. First one hour was given for the
arrangement of the project. After the arrangement
we were able to shake the audience with our explanation on the project. Our
project was able to steal the limelight during the workshop as our project was
based on a uniquetopic. We were able to gain a lot of positive feedback and
encouraging comments from the visitors. We really enjoyed this event and we
are looking forward to more workshops like this.
Learning Mathematics through Indian traditional games
Big Idea –
As part of math holiday homework, we had to brainstorm the various aspects in
our daily life where we find games. We came up with math in automobiles,
architecture, design, art, etc., but we needed something which can be easily
put up in class rooms. So, the best option in front of us was board games. We
wanted games that explored more about the culture in our home nation and of
our residential country. So, we chose a popular South Indian game – Aadu Puli
Aattam and a favorite pastime game of the Arab region – Mancala.
Game I – Aadu Puli Aaattam
Aadu Puli Aaattam is a famous game believed to have been found in the
southern state of India, Tamil Nadu. It is a strategic 2-player game, which
involves two sides – tiger (puli) and goat (aadu). The tiger’s objective is to kill
5 goats, while, the goat’s objective is to surround and block tigers in a way,
that none of it can move. The mathematical factors we learn are –
Ø _Addition Ø _Subtraction Ø _Probability Ø _Shapes Ø _Geometrical
aspects, such as – intersection points, corners, edges, etc. Ø _Analytical skills
Ø _Reasoning skills Ø _Percentage Ø _Ratio
Game II - Mancala
Mancala is a traditional Arab game believed to have been found in Ethiopia and
the Middle East region. It derives from the Arabic word “naqala”, which means
“to move”. This game has many variations around the world and is known as
“pallanguzhi” in India. The mathematical factors of this game are –
Ø _Addition Ø _Subtraction Ø _Analytical skills

CHILDREN’S DAY IN JSSPS KINDERGARTEN A REPORT
Each year 14th November is celebrated as Children’s Day in the loving memory of
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly known as Chacha Nehru. The entire school was abuzz
with activities and programs on this occasion.
On 13/11/2014, the kindergarten corridors came alive with squeals of delights and
chirpy talks as our little ones proudly marched dressed up as their favorite fairy tale
or cartoon characters. It was a lovely sight to see Batmans, Spidermans, Cindrellas,
Barbies and others walking hand in hand with warm smiles and cuddly hugs.
All the children gathered in the auditorium for the celebrations. KG1 children began
the show with their melodious medley of songs followed by the KG2 children. The
whole auditorium was filled with the rhyme and rhythm of the tiny voices, which
came from the performers as well as the audience. It was followed by a peppy dance
performance by our KG2 rock stars. Our showstoppers performed fantastically which
ended with a thundering round of applause from the children as well as the teachers.
The last performance came as a big surprise to the children when they saw their
teachers in the Muppet show. The laughter in the auditorium could be heard from
afar. The eventful day came to a close with all the children being given a gift and
chocolate by their teachers in their respective classrooms. Children’s Day reminded
us that although we have left our childhood far behind but with our adorable little
children we can always relive those glorious moments!!!!!!

SECTION
After a round of auditions which proved to be difficult
to select the participants considering the talented lot
of our kindergarteners from both the KG 1 and 2 classes, we finally selected 21 children
to represent our school.
This event was an excellent platform where our tiny tots put their best foot forward and
came out with flying colours.
The various categories under which they participated were:
1) Animal world – The children recited a poem based on this theme. The judgement
was based on presentation, pronunciation and diction, expressions and actions, stage
presence and confidence.
Our little orators who went on stage, recited to the best of their ability.
2) Popular Tales - Under this category, each participant could choose a character from
a folk tale of his/her choice. The participants dressed up and spoke as the chosen
character. They were judged on the basis of dialogue delivery, confidence, expressions
and costume. Our aspiring actors put up an excellent show on stage with their
confidence and expressions.
3) World Folks-Under this category each team performed a Folk dance. Our tiny tots of
KG2 performed a folk dance from Maharashtra, the “Koli dance”, popular among the
fishermen and fisherwomen.
Our young dancers presented an excellent show with the traditional dance steps and
their enthusiasm was par excellence. The costumes worn by our children and the props
on stage depicted the typical culture of the region.
4) Sing Along (Group and Solo Singing)-Under this category there was a Choir team
comprising of 8 students and a solo performance event too. Our singers sang beautifully
and won the hearts of all. They were declared 2nd runners up winners both for the choir
and solo performances for this category. The other participating schools in the
competition were the Rajagiri International School, Arab Unity School, DPS Gardens, DPS
Academy and Indian High School. It was a good experience for all of us and we hope to
participate in many more such events and motivate our other talented children to show
case their talents too.

A REPORT ON THE HEALTH AWARENESS AND WELLNESS
PROGRAMME
It is generally believed that childhood is the best time for children
to learn about health and hygiene. A hygiene based education
programme on health awareness and wellness was conducted by
the “Wide Angle” group in the school auditorium for the
Kindergarten children on 23rd November 2014.
The group members had dressed themselves as “Super Heroes of
Hygiene”. Two major activities covering hand wash and tooth
brushing techniques was performed by the group. Since it was an
interactive session the children were equally excited and got
themselves involved in every bit of the session.
Such programmes help in teaching the basics of proper personal
and oral hygiene to children at a young age and are the building
blocks for a healthy lifestyle.

TALENT SHOW – KINDERGARTEN 2
(24th -26th NOVEMBER 2014) A REPORT
“They came, they sang, danced, painted pictures, narrated
verses from the Bhagavad Gita, and conquered everyone’s

The KG 2 talent show was conducted for three days with the
sections performing in turns for their parents, friends and
teachers.
For three hours, the little wonders mesmerised the audience
with their melodious voices and their dancing feet. The
master story tellers had everyone listening to them in rapt
attention and the little magicians enthralled the audience
with their tricks.
Each day the event began with a welcome speech, followed
by an introduction to the budding artists. The artists would
take their place, close to the stage and begin working on a
picture of their choice.
Then would follow a medley of songs, dances, stories,
rhymes and magic shows too! The shutter bugs clicked and
the audience applauded, as the children performed
exceedingly well.
The little ones of KG2 displayed talent of very high order. It
was amazing to the see them perform with utmost
confidence. A big thank you to all the parents who have
taken tremendous effort to prepare their little ones for the
talent show. We are proud of each one of them and are glad

“The mind of the child is truly wonderful!”
To enhance listening, understanding, recalling
and speaking skills , the KG 2 teachers
organized a “guessing” game in their
respective classrooms throughout the first
week of November 2014. The children were
instructed about the rules of the game well in
hand and the same was shared with the
parents. Each child was asked to come
prepared with a hidden object neatly packed
and help their friends guess this object by
stating clues related to it.
The little ones were tremendously excited
about the entire idea and this excitement
showed large on their faces during the
activity. They displayed eagerness and
enthusiasm both while guessing as well as
giving the clues to their friends. During the
entire activity they not only were keen to get

NATIONAL SCHOOL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
Ever since our school built a cricket team, we were waiting for a national school
tournament. This year was very lucky for us. Sports 360 organized a national school
league. Our school enrolled and we were lucky to play 8 matches in both u13 and
u15.
We started off with vigorous training both in morning hours and by staying back
evening as well. We put our heart and soul and practice with real dedication. First
match started on 17 October for under 13 as well as under 15. With all excitement
we went to play our first match representing JSS blitz.
We played against one of the most seasoned and challenging team- Gems Modern
Academy, but hard luck we could not succeed though there was a tremendous team
effort from all team members. The next day we had a match against Dubai English
Speaking College in under 15 category. Once again we gave a tough fight to the
opponents; however they won by 1 run in the nail biting last over.
We had a break for two weeks before our round 2 matches. Ms. Nisha Ali, our Cricket
Coach encouraged and motivated us to perform well with extensive training and
positive counseling. The next 2 matches we played and came out with flying colors.
Yes, we won both under 13 and under15 matches in succession which we play
against the Millenium School. All the hard work and sincere effort paid off with a
grand victory in both these matches.
The first match we won with all ten wickets in hand and within 9 overs in a
spectacular style. The 2 match of under 15 was won by 3 wickets. This gave us
confidence. As of date as standing in the point stable is no 3 in both the categories
with 2 more matches in each category to finish for qualifiers.
We have full confidence and faith to get qualified to next rounds. We are really happy
to see our team performing so well in our first inter-school tournament at national
level. We look forward to sustain this momentum and bring more success in cricket
arena

FOREST FIRE
Waking up in the morning I smell a whiff of
something;
Something distant but something familiar.
I get up from my bed to notice very
soonThat the morning appears to be filled
with despair and gloom.
Nothing was bright as I walked out of the
door
Before I saw the volcano explode.
It was huge; with fury and it seemed so
deft,
Aloft it went raising every shred that was
left.
I stared at the void that was growing so
intense,
As cunning as a fox, that took its
defense.Lava flowed through the forest like
a rampaging river,
Burning everything and making me shiver.
I stood there helplessly as each moment
passed.
Lonesome was the forest, with no one to
ask.My
heart
cried
silently
as
I
remembered the past,
When the nature stood proudly without a
mask.
Most of the trees were washed away
And animals looked worse than X-rays.
Birds could no longer be heard singing,
As the nature was the one that was
stinging.
I woke
With a

READERS ARE LEADERS
We live in the age of television and internet and
there are many high-tech distractions to draw
our attention away from books. However the
importance of reading cannot be overstated.
The power of the written word can never be
subverted by technology because individuals
who read are better prepared to succeed.
Readers tend to be more successful and
resourceful, have a broader range of knowledge
and are well equipped to handle situations and
problems.
The reason for reading goes far beyond than
just preparing to be successful. Reading opens
up a new world to us. There could be many who
never had and never will have the opportunity
to travel the world; however books offer many
an opportunity to visit distant lands, or ancient
lands or ancient times, through the eyes of an
author. Reading also broadens one’s base of
knowledge and allows for the expression of
ideas and concepts far more complex than the
concepts offered by television or internet. This
may help for better understanding of the
dynamics of circumstances or assist in
understanding situations applying to the people
and world around. Reading often demonstrates
problem solving skills as well as required
concentration; the list of benefits from reading
is endless.
One of the key paths we walk as we seek to
grow as leaders is the path of reading – reading
what leaders themselves say in the books and
articles they write.
Many great men and women have left clues
about the impact of reading on their
development as leaders.
• Lincoln walked miles to borrow books in
the Indiana and Illinois frontier.
• John F. Kennedy had just read “The
Guns of August” when the Cuban missile
crisis erupted and was impressed by
Barbara Tuchman’s story of outbreak of
World War I that he ordered his staff to
read it.
So to sum up the concept, one can say that not
all readers are leaders but all leaders are
readers.
Today a reader..............tomorrow a leader!

VISIT TO A TEA FACTORY
In the month of march, when my holidays began
my family decided to go to a beautiful place in
India,also known as god's own
country.yes,Kerala.There we stayed for a week or
so in munnar,a hill station. There we could see the
greeneries all around with a pleasant climate. We
visited so many beautiful places. In those I liked
the local tea factory. It was situated on top on the
hill.We hired a jeep because no other vehicle
could go there. The road was very narrow, had so
many stones and it was in the form of the zig-zag
flag of Nepal. We left at 5am to watch a beautiful
sunrise at the tallest peak.It was amazing scenery
which I couldn't imagine in my dreams. It was
simply heaven to me.Iscreamt real loud to hear
my echoes Later,we visited the "tea factory".A
guide lead nus in.He narrated us the whole
process and showed us every step of making the
tea leaves.
First they collect the leaves from the tea plant and
they have to follow the various processes. They
are:Withering- process of drying in the making of
orthodox tea rolling-process of initiating the
fermentation Roll breaking-separating the twisted
and untwisted leaves from the big bulk of leaves
Fermentation-nothing but an oxidation
Drying-removing the mixture
Fibre extraction-removing the fibre content from
the tea and make it clean
Ready to pack
After that,we had a cup of nice, soothingtea. It was
an unforgettable experience to me.SIMPLY
GREAT!!!!
We stayed there for a week or so in a resort and
enjoyed a lot. Then we returned back to Dubai.

don't eat too much or your stomach will pain
lightsare lit up in alll the streets,
every house has christmas trees
christmas trees are here and there,
thechristmas mood is everywhere
