PRO : Please tell us about yourself ? SM : I am Bongani T. Zwane recently joined Phoenix CHC as Systems Manager from the 01 of February 2013. I obtained my Na onal Diploma in Public Management at Mangosuthu University of Technology. I also hold the following cer ficates in Occupa on Health and Safety Academy:


On a lighter note! I love being outdoors‐travelling, I enjoy soccer‐ am a Kaizer chiefs fana c (Khosi for life!), I also enjoy swimming .
Mr. B.T Zwane Systems Manager PRO : Please take us through your employment background or career path, including your previous employment? SM : My humble beginnings started at Independent Development Trust (IDT) working as a data capturer. This was followed by working for the Department of labour as a transport prac oner. A er a few years I joined Mashi‐
mollo consul ng and civil engineers and worked there as an administra ve manager of the company. Later on , greener pastures led me to ROSHCON Ltd MMH plant hire where I worked as a project manager and a safety officer manager. Lastly but certainly not least , I worked as a fleet co‐coordinator at SGB engineering and project managers.
PRO : What type of people do you associate yourself with?
SM :Wise people say “show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are”, .basically meaning we are judged by the company we keep . Thus I associate myself with people who share most of my values and beliefs. People who are posi ve thinkers, people who dream big, who are spiritually grounded and have God as their reference for living principles.
PRO : What you want to tell the readers:
SM : Two most important things I would like to share with the readers:
1. One of my strong beliefs is that –good things come to those who strive for excellence , on the con‐
trary to those who wait. 2. God’s delays are not denials but they come in perfect me

On the 30th of November 2012 Our Institution celebrated Long Ser‐
vice and Service Excellence Awards. The aim of this event was to mo‐
tivate and encourage staff to maintain a high quality of care. The programme was driven by Mr. Raj Lekhram (Facility Information Officer) and the opening prayer was done by Ms. Ncedisa Mtshali ( Social worker). The purpose of the Day was done by Mrs. T.R Zulu (Chief Executive Officer). Our guest speaker was Pastor Dickson Murthi ( Chairperson Clinic Committee) who in his speech thanked the staff members who have had Long service in the department. He also acknowledged that their hard work has been noticed by the de‐
partment. Saving lives of the patients and continuous provision of good quality care to our patients was appreciated. Matron L.Y Langa (Nursing Service Manager) also thanked all the staff members that achieved the Service Excellence Awards and fur‐
ther explained that they should keep up the good work and being good example to all the staff members. LONG CERTIFICATES WERE AWARDED TO THE FOLLOWING

4 Medical Male Circumcision
n the 28 and 29 November 2012 Phoenix CHC officially hosted Medical Male Circumcision camp in
Green Bury Hall. The rationale behind this programme is to
reduce HIV infection and other related diseases .The teams
were allocated in Phoenix and surrounding areas where our
target people were reached. The programme was targeting
young men and boys at schools. This phase was the first
step in reaching the beneficiaries of MMC after marketing
process was done.
On both days 56 clients were screened and circumcised and
there were no complications reported.
Management would like to thank all the people participated,
and would like to extend special thanks to Match (NGO)
with their dedicated staff assisted in our campaign to make it
a success.

5 MEC ‘s Visit at Phoenix CHC
On the 06 of November 2012 the National Minister for Public Works (Mr. Thulasi Nxesi ) as well as oth‐
er Ministers visited Phoenix CHC. The aim of the visit was to do site inspection on the progress of the construction of our new building . Was led by Mr. Charles Naismith (Contract Manager). Senior Management would like to thank all the peo‐
ple that participated in this project for it to be a suc‐
cess. The Programme Manager from Ethekwini District did a short presentation about the Institution. He highlighted the importance of having this Commu‐
nity Health Centre extended/renovated. After the presentation there was an excursion to the new building and the team “At PCHC we care and we deliver”
6 World’s Aids Day Event
On the 12 of December 2012, Phoenix CHC cel‐
ebrated the World’s AIDS Day. The aim of the event was to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and services available. We were also joined by Ms. Sonto Skhosana who was our guest speaker for the day from Love Life. In her speech she mentioned the importance of practicing safe sex and ways on how to live positively. She also reinforced com‐
pliance with treatment to avoid complications thus enhancing longevity. She further advised patients to feel free to undergo counseling and testing to know their status. Purpose of the day was done Dr. Adebolu (Clinical Manager Hast) he briefly mentioned new plans for Hast department that will be implemented in 2013. Talks were delivered by different speakers which was part of emphasizing the importance of knowing your status. Lastly Management would like to send sincere grati‐
tude to all the people that participated to make this event a success. A special thank you goes to Matron Bhogal’s family for donating food hampers to all the families. Patients seen listening to the different speakers 

7 Healthy Lifestyle
On the 15/02/2013 our Institution launched a Healthy Lifestyle programme by demonstrating aerobics which are usually done in the afternoons from 15hoo to 16h00. Aim is to encourage staff to live positively and stay healthy. The demonstration is conducted by Ms. Maki Mokoatle (staff member). Scheduled weekly programme is as follows : (Tuesdays ,Wednesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon) All staff members are encouraged to attend. Community Outreach in partnership with DSW
Durban Solid Waste (DSW) education section in conjunction with Phoenix Community Health Centre were conducting an education drive to ed‐
ucate the community visiting the CHC about the correct ways of handling waste at the facility and at home. The community was also taught about the 3 important R’s in waste management  Reduce  Reuse Above picture : Ms. T Nontso (Waste Management Practitioner) seen awarding a prize to the patient.  Recycling. 9 Community Outreach (Senior Citizen Clubs)
Phoenix CHC staff visited Palmview/Shastri Park Senior Citizen Club on the 13/03/2013. The main aim is to educate and strengthen Healthy Lifestyle targeting all the relevant stakeholders such as NGO’s , FBO’s CBO’s etc. We had started rolling out the programme to the Senior Citizens Clubs on their scheduled meet‐
ing days and 25 members were attended. Services provided on the site were as follows :  Blood pressure checking  Blood glucose level testing. 1 1. Phoenix CHC staff seen rendering institutional ser‐
vices. 2. Members from the Senior Citizen seen playing cards dur‐

8
