Kids Zone hours may vary on holidays and between
sessions. Full members receive two hours of free
babysitting per child per day while utilizing the facility.
The maximum stay per child is two hours per day. You are
permitted to bring NUT FREE snacks for your child to enjoy
during snack times. Additional information about snack
times is posted in the Kids Zone. Drinks are permitted
during regular hours and not restricted to snack times.

HEALTHIER
Healthy Weight and Your Child Program
Healthy Weight and Your Child is a 12 month evidence-based program for children with obesity.
The year-long program empowers 7-13 year olds, with the support of their families, to reach a
healthy weight and live a healthier lifestyle. The program includes a Family Information Session,
16 weekly sessions, followed by 4 biweekly sessions, and 5 monthly sessions.
TO QUALIFY FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROGRAM:
• Child must be 7-13 years old
• Child must carry excess weight with a body mass
index of the 95th percentile or higher
• Child must receive medical clearance from a
healthcare provider or school nurse
• Parent/Caregiver MUST attend all sessions

FAMILY AND RECREATIONAL SWIM
All children under 12 years of age must
be accompanied in the pool area by an
adult. All children using a swim belt
or life jacket must have an adult in the
water at all times.

SWIM TEST POLICY
For the safety of our swimmers, we will
be swim testing all children under the
age of 14 years old. If you do not wish
to take the swim test, you will be given
a red bracelet and asked to stay in the
shallow end of the pool. If you wish to
go down the slide, you will need to be
able to swim the length of the pool and
tread water/float for 30 seconds. We
keep records of your test, so you will
only need to take the test one time. If
you would like to retake the swim test
in an effort to improve, we are happy to
retest at any time.
GUEST PASS POLICY
Passes for Family Swim or Lap Swim
may be purchased at the Brandywine
YMCA, and also used at the Hanby
Outdoor Center. Guest members must
present a photo ID when entering the
facility, complete the guest participant
forms and have a photo taken.

August 3: Camp Color Wars Swim Meet Adult (Age 18 & over): $15 per day
Pool closed to members until 4:15 p.m.
Child (Age 17 & under): $7 per day
LAP SWIMS (LENGTHS ONLY)
Times may vary due to the installation
and removal of lane lines. Either one or
two lanes will be available depending
upon pool attendance, as Lap Swim
occurs in conjunction with Family
Recreational Swim.

BAD WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement weather
(i.e. thunder, lightning, or unseasonably
cold temperatures), please call the
branch at 478-9622, for facility
closings or late openings. According
to Health Department Regulations, for
safety during electrical storms, the
pool and pool deck will close until 30
minutes after the last clap of thunder
or the last bolt of lightning. The
facility and pool may close early at the
discretion of the YMCA staff due to
anticipated extreme weather conditions.
SLIDE RULES
One swimmer is permitted to go down
the slide at a time. The swimmer
waiting at the top of the slide must
wait until the swimmer in the water
reaches the ladder before going down
the slide. No one is permitted to use
the slide without passing the water
test, using a flotation device or with a
parent standing at the bottom of the
slide. These rules are in place for you
and your child’s safety.
AQUA ZUMBA
NIGHTS!
Class follows the traditional
Zumba format, but in the water.
The dance combinations are
slightly slower than those done
in a typical Zumba class, but the
energy is just as high.

This is a one hour session all about
you. You and your coach will discuss
your past experiences, uncover
potential obstacles, help you set goals
and develop a plan to reach them. You
will also get a preview of activities or
exercises that interest you. Complete
this session and receive $5 off your
next month’s membership!
SESSION 2 - INVOLVE
This is a one hour session, where
you and your coach will discuss
your progress, develop strategies to
overcome obstacles and introduce
additional activity options that will
help you reach your goals. Complete
this session and receive $10 off of
your next month’s membership.
SESSION 3 - TRANSFER
This is a half hour session, where you
will have the opportunity to celebrate
progress, revise your plan and transfer
what you have learned into an ongoing
plan for success! Complete all three
sessions and receive 15% off a

This class uses light weights, the ballet
barre and other props. Small isomeric
movements to tone the entire body
increase endurance and stamina as
well as create long, lean muscles. No
experience is necessary. All levels are

Discover your inner warrior as you move
to the latest music in this 55 minute
martial arts inspired cardio program.
Increase strength and endurance as you
build confidence in this non-contact
group exercise class. Bring a yoga mat
to class for cool down.

Get your blood pumping, challenge
your balance, and stay on your toes
as you move from exercise to exercise.
This class features basic “boot camp”
moves, kickboxing, and core exercises.
Modifications will be offered so you

This class strengthens the core
through cardio drills, balancing poses
and mat work using gliding discs,

fitness level. Our Core Circuits training

Set to popular music, Dance Fusion is a
high energy class fusing three principles
of physical well-being; aerobic dance,
muscle toning, and flexibility. Move,
groove and dance with us!

glutes with equipment such as weights,
resistaballs, bender balls and gliding discs.

HIIT - HIGH INTENSITY
INTERVAL TRAINING
Accelerate your fitness in this
heart pumping class through
intense intervals of cardio, strength
conditioning, plyometrics, and oldfashioned calisthenics. HIIT offers a full
body workout like no other! Exercises
can be modified to accommodate all
participants.

Challenge your endurance and boost
your overall fitness in this runningbased outdoor workout. Each week,
we will run 3-4 miles with stops along
the way to complete exercises such as
burpees, push-ups, lunges, calisthenics,
plyometrics, and more. Get ready to do
hill repeats, sprint intervals, trail runs,
and did we mention burpees? Check
the current fitness schedule for class
availability. The group will meet in the
lobby before going outside.

MUSCLE PUMP
Set to motivating music, this nonimpact, high energy muscle conditioning
class will work all your major muscle
groups. Muscle Pump is suitable for all
fitness levels and a lot of fun!

PRE-NATAL/POST-NATAL
FITNESS [01118]
This class consists of mild-intensity
aerobics, muscle strengthening, and
relaxation exercises to keep you fit
during pregnancy. It will also help you
get back into exercising after baby. This
class follows ACOG guidelines and uses
YMCA certified instructors. Post-natal
participants should have completed
their 6 week post baby checkup to
participate. A Physician’s release is
required at the first class. Please

Join the pack for this
dynamic 45 minute
ride. Instructors will
combine great music and motivation
to guide you through hills, sprints and
endurance drills to ensure a fun and

HATHA YOGA [04501]
Hatha Yoga is a basic course for
beginners. It is a gentle, enjoyable
experience. Deep breathing and
relaxation techniques are combined
with postures that are designed to
increase flexibility and reduce stress
and tension. Class is held in a quiet,
darkened room with soft music. Students
move at their own pace in a gentle, noncompetitive atmosphere. Class begins
with the “wake up” routine, then we move
into basic yoga postures and ends with
relaxation and visualization – creating
peace and well-being in body and mind.
Be sure to wear loose clothing and bring
a yoga mat.

Become familiar with basic yoga

This combination of Yoga and Pilates
focuses on the core with Pilates

This is a 55 minute low intensity,

Suitable for all ages and fitness levels
this program is designed to increase

in chest deep shallow water and is set
to beautiful music. Aqua shoes are
recommended.

AQUA ZUMBA ®
This 45 minute class follows the
traditional Zumba® format of Latin
moves in the shallow water. The
resistance of the water makes every
salsa, merenge and reggaeton step
a bit more challenging which helps
your muscles work even harder!
Combinations are slightly slower than
a typical Zumba® class, but the energy
is just as high. This class is good for
people with an injury or joint problems.

This is a recreational exercise program

This class is designed to get your
heart rate up and burn calories and
includes a water walking warm up, 40

M.S. WATER WORKOUT [02505]
An exercise program in cool water
designed to promote mobility and a
sense of well-being for those with

This is a medium intensity, no impact,
aqua-aerobic class that is 55 minutes
long, and held in deep water. The
aerobic portion varies from 35 to

a buoyant belt or a pool noodle
that allows participants to vertical
train and to fully utilize the water’s
property of natural resistance.
Tuesday/Thursday classes are 45
minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of
toning and flexibility.

any two classes are asked to repeat
the program to gain admittance to the

This is a three-week instructional
program that meets two days a week
to work on the basics of soccer as well
as the individual skills of the players.
The 3-4 year old group is designed
to teach the basics of the sport with
an emphasis on listening, following

with other participants. Players should

bottle.

This is a skills clinic for middle school
players and high school freshmen

fall. Instruction includes offensive and

shooting skills. Instruction provided
by Concord HS field hockey coaches
and players. Participants must provide
mouth guards, shin guards, stick and
field hockey ball, eye protection, and
sunscreen daily. There is no indoor
space available; sessions will be
canceled in the event of bad weather.

Youth flag football is designed to
provide children with the opportunity
to engage a positive competition and
teach the basic flag football skills of
passing, receiving, running with the

and strategies. Every player plays
at least half of every game. Teams
practice one night per week and play
a game on Saturday afternoon. One
game will be played against an area
YMCA. Eight and under games will
all be played at the Hanby Outdoor
Center; 11 and under games will be
played at either the Hanby Outdoor
Center or other area YMCAs.

Area” once lessons have started. All
classes are held in the South Pool
unless otherwise noted. Classes with

refine his/her stroke mechanics. New

This level is for the youth who can
swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool)
of freestyle with rotary breathing,
backstroke, breaststroke, elementary
backstroke and 25 yards of butterfly.

there will be a strong focus on stroke
mechanics.

LEADERSHIP
Junior and Teen Leaders do not meet
when the Brandywine School District
dismisses early, has a half day, or is
closed.
YOUNG LEADERS
Grades: 6-8
Young Leaders learn life skills
including money management,
child development, environmental
issues, drug and alcohol
prevention, and take field
trips. Transportation is
provided from Talley Middle
School. Springer Middle School
participants should register for
Bus #94. PS Dupont students
should register for Bus #8.

JUNIOR LEADERS
Grades: 3-6
This is an opportunity to meet other
tween/teen members, go on field trips,
play games, make community contacts
and learn something about yourself.
The core values of the YMCA (Honesty,
Caring, Respect and Responsibility) will
be emphasized.

TEEN LEADERS

This is a productive, fun group of
teens getting together to make
contributions to their community.
They will plan fundraisers to earn
money for special trips and charities,
volunteer within the community
at places like nursing homes and
hospitals, and go on awesome trips
that includes overnights and weekends
away. Just come to a weekly meeting
to join the group!

YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT [06207]
Grades: 8-12
Learn about our government using a
hands-on approach. Highlights include
a pre-legislative meeting in March,
debating on the floor of Legislative
Hall, writing a bill, and making friends.
Youth in Government culminates in
April 2017 with a weekend in Dover
where most events will be held in
Legislative Hall. Meetings begin in
December.

MID-DAY FUN CLUB
This fun club is available for our 3 and
4 year old Giant Step participants.
Activities include: outdoor play, arts

skill activities, science, and reading.
Children have a scheduled nap/rest
time each day. Two, three or five day
options are available. The program runs
September through May.

The day consists of games, active
and free play, and swim time. Bring
a bathing suit and towel. Some field
trips are scheduled. A pizza lunch is
provided. If your child does not like
pizza, please provide a healthy, nutfree lunch and drink. Registration form

Not recommended for people with
food allergies.
Share some special time with your
child in a great cooking class. Work
as a team as you both learn how to
prepare yummy and healthy food
that will fit into your budget. Good
nutrition will be easy as you learn
tricks of the trade from a home
economics teacher. Be prepared to
taste your special creations! Register
early, as class size is limited. Price
includes parent and one child.
